  • This is a brief video to demonstrate what to do when your Pfaff sewing machine bobbin mechanism jams. A thread in the hook shuttle is all it takes to jam a machine.

    Thanks a lot steve, you helped me to fix my moms fav machine. I fully marked every piece with ink before taking it off, it's very easy to loose the sync of the machine, thank's for the advise. It took me so much time to figure out how to do it without breaking anything. After do it one time it's very easy and fast to fix, it would be great if you actually dissasembly and assembly it, and show how to resync in. anyways, thanks for the help very much, nobody makes videos about it except you, and when you have 0 idea this is a treasure to find out. cheers!

    Actually, Steve, this was sufficient to fix my jammed bobbin hook shuttle with the following additional step: Remove the 2 set screws holding the whole shuttle assembly to the drive shaft, then remove the assembly for easy access to the small spring/screws holding the assembly together. My problem thread jam was solved, and the assembly was cleaned, lubed, and re-assembled. You saved me time and money by not having to take it to a shop which was closed anyway for the coronavirus. I'm very grateful for your video. Thank you so much.

      Where are those 2 set screws' located? Does anyone have a diagram or video showing those?

      I removed those 2 screws & the assembly. How can I tell where the shaft should be when I tighten them back up (for proper timing)? (I assumed there would be flat spots on the shaft but there aren't.)

    Thanks to your explanation about the three small screws with the spring and the rotating parts, I was able to service my Pfaff 1527, oiling, cleaning, replacing worn parts. She now runs like a million bucks, and she stopped tearing the thread when zig-zagging. Thank you.

    Thanks so much for this video! I recently moved to South Africa, serviced my Pfaff select 1530 before leaving. The first time I used it after moving this thread jam happened. Luckily, with the help of video, i was able to solve it within the hour! Thanks a lot!!

    You Sir, are a STAR!
    Simply by pointing out “this bit doesn’t move” and showing how it’s kept in place, I have fixed my Pfaff Select 4.2!
    The housing(shuttle thing?) for the Bobbin case had jumped out of the bit (finger?) that keeps it from turning, so, it was not sewing. The needle just kept hitting the shuttle case thing.
    After watching your video, I took the bottom off the machein again then undid 2 more screws, popped the bobbin shuttle thingy back in line and FIXED! You saved me a trip the the menders and a bill for unnecessary work.
    THANK YOU!
    WORDS OF WARNING… don’t over tighten the screws into the plastic because it will break the plastic ☹️. My fault 🤦🏻‍♀️

      hi there, I have the exact problem of needle hitting the shuttle and hence, not sewing at all on my 1473cd and I am worried that if I open it up I might not be able to put it back together. Do you have any tips on the whole Shuttle/bobbin case assembly?

    • @purplebouquetnn2956
      @purplebouquetnn2956 Рік тому

      @@sweta5987 That's my issue right now as well. It's the second time in 6 months it happened. The fist time I had to take it in. Something caused the needle to be stuck; I couldn't move the handwheel at all. I unscrewed the bottom and the plastic piece that holds the case as shown in this video. The bobbin screws were so tight I couldn't move them, but then I loosened the two bigger screws that hold the small horizontal black metal bar in place. Immediately, the shuttle started turning again. I didn't see any threads. Now the needle is hitting the shuttle and I don't know why. Anybody know the answer?

    Nice video. For anyone who needs to know, the gap between the position bracket and the bobbin case holder (hook basket) shown at 3:37 should be 0.7mm, which is just enough so they don't actually touch. Also, when removing the three tiny screws with springs, I find it best to put a bit of masking tape over them so if they do fall out, they will stick to the tape rather than fall on the floor or go flying across the room. It's easier to remove the entire hook unit, but then you have to redo the timing.

    Thanks!!! Was just tearing my hair out over new troubles on a new to me Pfaff Performance 2054: suddenly lots of thread jams AND bent or broken needles. Found my answer at timestamp 3:00. Seems the screw for the 'bobbin case position finger' loosened over time &/or some minor wear on the 'bobbin case base' where the two meet. Already back to sewing after adjusting the position finger to fit more tightly against the case base.

      Yes, a picture is worth a thousand words. Take pictures as you're taking your particular sewing machine model apart. Then use the pictures in reverse order to put your machine back properly.

      I would love to see you actually remove the bobbin assembly screws. I can’t budge them with my skinny handled screwdriver set. UPDATE: I found better screwdrivers on my husband’s workbench. I was able to disassemble the “practice” bobbin assembly I got from ebay by removing 5 of the 6 screws (6th must have been superglued) but reassembly was challenge. The last piece didn’t just drop in! Took a lot of fiddling. When I got the middle and top piece positioned correctly, I placed them upside down on my work surface, and placed the base on top of them, picked the whole assembly up like a sandwich and added a couple of screws before it fell apart again. The rest of the procedure sounds like a bigger challenge. Anyway, thanks for pointing the way.

    Thank you for this. Your instructions helped me fix the jam, and the machine sews beautifully. But it makes a lot of noise that wasn't there before. I oiled the shuttle as indicated in the manual, and it helped a little, but the machine is still way noisier than it was before. Any suggestions of what caused this and what I could try? Thank you.

    I think I solve my problem, which was the inner bobbin case somehow got past the stop that kept it from spinning. However, when I went to put it back together, a little black part that fits over the screws on the left that holds the black l-shaped part in place had slipped out, and it has a hook on it, and I idn't see it before or how it fits back in. I did take pics of the bobbin setup before unscrewing, as suggested, but it doesn't show clearly enough on the pics for me to know, since I wasn't particularly looking for that part of the set up. Any ideas?

    • @liekestoop2177
      @liekestoop2177 7 місяців тому

      Hey, in case you hadn't solved it yet: this I-shaped bracket with a hook in the middle is supposed to go behind the big black L shaped bracket. So when you have your machine laid down like in de video on 1:40, (after you put back in the bobbin case) you put in the little bracket with the hook towards the needle and on the right side, then on top the bigger L-bracket and then tighten it with the gold/brass coloured screws. Hopes this helps.

    Hi Steve, we bought this brand new pfaff passport 2.0 and had it fixed by the place where we bought it 3 times to no avail. They cannot duplicate the problem. Yet they say it is fixed. My wife can use it afterwards from 3 to 15 minutes and bam, the problem reoccurs. It's a 3 year old machine, barely used. the bobbin case moves out of place and the needle gets stuck in it. Any ideas?

    Well, I have had Pfaff Select for 1 year and a thread got jammed already 4 x. Each time to go to the service. Each time to drive, wait, pay, drive. I hate the machine and will buy another one, which has those two little things that hold the whole mechanism together and one can easily and completely remove all parts, clean it and put it back. What a terrible engineering design. Service people told me that the reason for the jam is my wrongdoing when threading the upper thread. Nonsense. X-time I watched youtube video to make sure to do it right. Anyone with same experiences? Or am I a total idiot who does not know how to use a sewing machine (after 40 years of sewing and after having had Veritas, Brothers and Toyota machines with no problems)?????? Would be thankful for your opinion.
