@@gx4548 Well, for me, I bought a 870 in late October last month. I noticed a few weeks ago that Crystal Disk Info showed its drive health at 99% and I have only written about 550GB on it, and all of it are just games. In fact, they're RDR2, Witcher 3 and GR: Breakpoint. I'm not sure if that's exactly normal though. I haven't noticed any drops in performance, crashes or anything weird though. What too is odd about is that my 2,5 years old ADATA external SSD is still at 100% health and it has probably almost 2TB written on it. Edit: The ADATA has 6TB written, Samsung has 538GB. Also the former is an NVMe according to Crystal Disk, that is in the external drive USB housing. So, judging by this, I'd rather get myself an ADATA SSD next time, or more specifically an NVMe.
@@mazzingah769 4 months later, Crystal Disk still shows it's at 99%, though I haven't gamed all that much during that time. Samsung Magician shows it's in good health, but I can't see any percentage because I haven't run any of the extensive diagnostics.
Add me to the list. I bought my 1TB 870 EVO in May of 2021. In the past two months the number of bad sectors suddenly soared to 48,468 all over the drive. The file damage included files that I had written to the drive two years ago and never touched. The total damage was 288 files, mostly temporary browser files fortunately. Oddly I had just replaced a conventional 2TB drive that had 68TB written to it over a period of eleven years before it began failing and it failed in a much less catastrophic manner. For comparison I've also been using a cheaper Samsung 500GB 840 EVO for nine years (it reports 129,521 hours which is impossible because that's 14 years). It's had 38.7 TB written to it and has exactly *zero* reallocated sectors. I'm going to keep my eye on the reallocated sectors and for any read failures during backups.
Mine just started failing after getting it about a month ago. Absolutely ridiculous, my bios detected it and repaired it once but I came back the next day to my computer not detecting it again. Really thought Samsung was more reliable
Thanks for letting me that valuable thing "Don't put any important on these". I ordered 2 of these 870 evo 1TB ones on amazon for both of my laptop and my workstation 😞 Not sure which manufacturing lot ones will I get. Hey, couple of questions if you can clarify, appreciate that. 1) Any idea of 2023 batch lot failing too? 2) are other brand SSD more reliable than Samsung EVO? Which ones? Barracuda metal ones were much much more reliable than these. Finally, God bless me & my data.
The later ones should be solid. As far as reliability of other brands go it's dealers choice. Samsung is generally pretty darn good, my main SSD drive is still going strong after years of use. Every manufacturer can run into issues and they take care of you. It's just a bummer when you lose all that data...
I have a 2 year old 870 EVO 500GB NVME that went bad this month. It is recognized by Windows but unable to open it and trying to open Disk manager or any disk tools would freeze or would fail to load, however I attached it with an external NVME adaptor and thankfully a Recovery software worked great and allowed me to take everything off that was not backed up. It is still under warranty but I prefer to keep it in case I discover something I need form it and I have other drives, I replaced it with an 870 PRO 1TB I had sitting around. I also had a failed SanDisk external drive SSD, not good. I did not even use it much at all, it was just for transferring items usually to friends so at least it had nothing important on it.
I am a ME fan as well. Finished of all 3 games on PS3, Xbox one and an Jailbreaken ps4 pro. It think BioWare has doomed and we will never see anything like ME games, especially first one is a real rpg to me I am on PS4 pro as on last software now. My stock PS4 pro's HDD broken when i on Star wars fallen order 2 years ago and changed it with another Sata HDD samsung 2TB. Hahaha! Never had someone compare me to him. But at any rate, the later build ones should have no issues. Right now my RMA unit only has 239gb written to it so the entire drive hasn’t even been used yet.
@@viperdemonz-jenkins solid usage! My main is currently at 35.1Tb written and the RMA hasn't even gotten close to writing to all the blocks yet at 239Gb. I hope my RMA unit will stay solid now too. Regain some of that trust I have lost in Samsung.
So I got the Samsung magician and it’s not detecting my other drive only my 870 evo The other drive I have is a 870 qvo 2tb I have 2 of them both stoped working. One stop working so because that stop working. Like it go one online then offline and could not access my games. Nore the storage file. Kept doing that. Then when you disconnect it both stop working. Long story short I deleted the things and manage to unmerge both drivers and now both are working again. But I took off the one that had caused the issue originally. Didn’t plugged it back in incase it did the same thing And I have the Samsung magician but not detecting the 870 qvo on it. Is there a ways to add it so i can do a diagnostic on it?
My Samsung 870 EVO 2TB bought in June 2023 failed after 6 months. Not writing much, 95% only reading, on Linux. First it was still displaying the device name and infos, and I could successfully repair the volume with a repair tool (Windows). Everything looked normal again. After 3 weeks total breakdown in the middle of writing something. Not even the device name is visible in Windows Device Manager. Only "Unknown Device". With that any software can do nothing anymore. Even Samsung Magician can't recognize it.
Yup, better warranty too. But unlike the 860 pro which used MLC the newer ones past the 970 pros have the same TLC memory the EVOs use. QVOs use QLC which wears out the quickest (hence the cheaper cost).
Does Samsung post any info on this issue? Recalls, etc? Would be helpful to consumers especially if it's a known issue and has been corrected. Thx@@TheDutchTexanGames
Was planning on upgrading to this for an old 9 yr old laptop with hdd so i can use it as a backup pc. I would then clone my old hdd then store it somewhere. But it should work as before i swapped to an ssd?

@MrJlove12 I messaged their support team about this and it seems as if they are covering up somethings, this is what they said, "Thank you for contacting Samsung Memory Support. The SSD 870 Evo is not known to have any issues or recalls with Firmware; you should be safe and optimized to use the SSD in your current/future build"
@@TheDutchTexanGames thanks, turns out Samsung (Canada) insisted I needed the original receipt and wanted me to deal thru the company that sold it to me - which was a real pain because I couldn't find the original receipt. @@thethrillofitall yes, the pro series. However the pro 970 is the last one to use the MLC (2 bits per location) whereas the 980 and above use the same TLC (3 bits per location) that the EVO's have. TLC is cheaper to manufacture, but it also doesn't last as long.
From what we know those manufactured after November 2022 are made differently, and "should" be safe from the bad blocks that haunted those made before that date. Hovewer we can't be sure since it takes some time for bad blocks error to appear. Wait for awhile longer if you're getting a 870 EVO, or pick something else.

Hello, greetings from the Philippines. I am planning to upgrade SSD and my first choice is Samsung and second choice is Crucial. By the way, can I also check the manufacturing date on the box without opening the item in case I bought Samsung SSD? I already bought my Samsung 970 NVME and I don't know if this also connects to your video too.
God damn it!! After having two Samsung smartphones die on me and a TV and another with issues and night mare washing machine and a freaking horrible curved screen(that was the last drop) i said NEVER. This guys have no quality control in anything. And i kept away for some good time now, but i wanted an SSD and everyone was praising Samsung SSD so against my better judgement i thought i trust them one last time. Maybe just maybe their SSD stuff is good for so many people to praise them. And what i bought? Yeah you got it right.. 870 EVO. And now i see this! I am just shaking my head. I just want to go to a mirror and ask myself what was i thinking. I guess my only hope is that i bought this lately so it will be at least after 2022 manufactured and is a 2TB one. Also my distrust in them is high so i back up everything on normal hard drives.
Does this issue affect OEM versions of Samsung NVME drives like the PM9A1. From what I understand, it's the OEM equivalent to the 980 pro in terms of specs and build. My issue is that the Magician software doesn't work with OEM versions.
do not scare me sir i bought it 2 or 3 years ago it still works i even had system on it for a year before i got kingston fury nvme magician says it is 100% fine.. its 1 TB disk just like yours
My 870 EVO 2TB is failing. It's running at 100% in Task Manager. It appears on Magician, but wont scan or show any relevant data. CrystalDiskInfo sees it but doesn't show as many datapoints as for the other drives.
i have the 250gb model crapped on me a year ago. i bought it in mid 2021 and used it for about 4 months. then it'd show a few signs of dying such as random BSODs with unexpected_store_exception error code. i did a fresh reinstall and the same problem persist. i didnt know what the problem was as i moved on to another new ssd of mine which has 500gb of storage and used to this day and still has no issue. so i turned the samsung ssd drive into a linux drive. few days went on it'd work just fine. and after that the OS would just lockup and i cant do anything. at that point i concluded that my samsung ssd has died on me
I have 2 x 1TB of 870EVO and the drives are showing red blocks....I was under the assumption they automatically detected the bad blocks and assign another but mines are just failing and I already have a couple corrupted files. Chkdsk says it replaced the bad clusters but they still show up.

The mx500 has an issue with cold boots. Specifically if the system was unplugged. Very slow loading (5-10 mins) and runs at a reduced speed during diagnostics.
I don't actually know it myself, but from what I've googled those manufactured after November 2022 should be fine. His ssd was sadly manufactured October 2022, just a month before it.... Still don't take what I've written here as fact, but I guess after Nov 2022 should be fine.

@@_MaZTeR_ right now is still on 99%? even its been updated on samsung magician?
It definitely affected my opinion. Everyone always seemed to hold them in high regards but I am going to be very cautious with them going forward.
A 1 tb version?
Just had one fail on me 2 days ago. not sure how old, but right now, can't even put a file system, or low-level format. very disheartening.
I did not even use it much at all, it was just for transferring items usually to friends so at least it had nothing important on it.
manufacture date?
My 870 EVO 2TB failed this week. Manufactured 2021.04 😢 Samsung Magician doesn't even load it. Data lost.
It makes me wonder how many more of those old drives are out there.

My 870 EVO 4Tb build 09-2022 failed. Samsung Magician could never show it even when the OS did.
Road too 1k lets goo 🎉🎉
We We already have 6 defective 870 EVO SATA drives, manufactured in 2021, various capacities, which we have sold in the past and more are coming...
Yup, they had some major issue back then...
So I got the Samsung magician and it’s not detecting my other drive only my 870 evo
The other drive I have is a 870 qvo 2tb
I have 2 of them both stoped working.
Didn’t plugged it back in incase it did the same thing
And I have the Samsung magician but not detecting the 870 qvo on it. Is there a ways to add it so i can do a diagnostic on it?
OMG! You bought Qvo? You are really a risky guy. I wouldn't dare being that risky, i already felt uncomfortable with EVO.
The QVO SSD’s tend to be more delicate than the EVO SSD’s, since they use QLC, instead of TLC.
I had two of mine fail this week. I have 3 more in my main PC so worried those are going to fail also. Currently trying to figure out what alt to get.
All the reviews from when they 1st came out was the Pro's would have much more life then the EVO or QVO
Yup, better warranty too. But unlike the 860 pro which used MLC the newer ones past the 970 pros have the same TLC memory the EVOs use. QVOs use QLC which wears out the quickest (hence the cheaper cost).
Had an 870 evo die on me dated Sept 2021. I believe any 870 before November 2021 will fail.
It's all the early ones for sure. The RMA one I got has been solid.
Had a 2TB 870 EVO build date Nov 2021 that failed on me. I even upgraded the firmware a year ago and still failed.
I have a 870 evo 500gb. Production 2023 06 07. I hope its ok. Thanks for the video.

How is the WD Blue 2 Tb SSD , manufactured in 2021.
I just purchased it in India brand new from Flipkart
Was planning on upgrading to this for an old 9 yr old laptop with hdd so i can use it as a backup pc. I would then clone my old hdd then store it somewhere. If ever the new ssd drive fails, can i use the old hdd again that i cloned? I know I'll loose some data but is that okay? I have to redownload windows updates again right? But it should work as before i swapped to an ssd?
I just bought samsung Evo 870 4TB manufactured date 2023 10 15 made in korea. Its very disheartening experienced to have this kind of ssd it suddenly hang and stop working after installing the OS i tried to reinstall many times even installing samsung magician but to no avail...😢😢😢😢
Very bad for Samsung’s reputation!
Definitely gave me a bad vibe. But the replacement is now sitting at 2.6Tb written so I suppose things are going alright so far!

I got a 1tb which is randomly running at 100% on performance. This was a separate drive to install games. When I tried loading a game, it won't open. is there any follow up for this Video?
Haven't had to make a follow up. The RMA'd unit I received back has worked flawlessly!
God damn it!! After having two Samsung smartphones die on me and a TV and another with issues and night mare washing machine and a freaking horrible curved screen(that was the last drop) i said NEVER. This guys have no quality control in anything.

Also my distrust in them is high so i back up everything on normal hard drives.

you can't go wrong with a crucial mx500.
Does this issue affect OEM versions of Samsung NVME drives like the PM9A1. From what I understand, it's the OEM equivalent to the 980 pro in terms of specs and build. My issue is that the Magician software doesn't work with OEM versions.

My 870 EVO 2TB is failing. It's running at 100% in Task Manager. It appears on Magician, but wont scan or show any relevant data. CrystalDiskInfo sees it but doesn't show as many datapoints as for the other drives.
Me too 100% disk in task manager and cant or open app very slow. Did u buy a new ssd or how to fix it ?
It’s most likely failing.
i have the 250gb model crapped on me a year ago. i bought it in mid 2021 and used it for about 4 months. then it'd show a few signs of dying such as random BSODs with unexpected_store_exception error code. i did a fresh reinstall and the same problem persist. i didnt know what the problem was as i moved on to another new ssd of mine which has 500gb of storage and used to this day and still has no issue. so i turned the samsung ssd drive into a linux drive. few days went on it'd work just fine. and after that the OS would just lockup and i cant do anything. at that point i concluded that my samsung ssd has died on me
