Libba Cotten was a well-regarded guitar player who was born in North Carolina and discovered when she was keeping house for the Seeger family. She played a unique left-handed style of guitar but didn't have all her voice left in her later years - on her recording of “Shake Sugaree,” her granddaughter Brenda Evans sings the lyrics, about making the most out of what you got.

This is a great cover of her song.
Don't know why Rhiannon is not the talk of the Tube, because her music is absolutely fabulous-the phrasing, the musicality, and the voice. Love to listen to her; am buying her latest album.
She sounds just as good live and in person. If she tours anywhere near you, go see her, you will not regret it.

Thanks to our local WUKY, her music has an outlet in our town. She will be in Lexington Ky on March 31st at the Opera House. I wouldn't have heard of her if it hadn't been for public radio.

Rhannon Giddens amazes me. Everything she does is over the top excellent. Elizabeth Cotten would play and sing a verse or two for her great-grandchildren, and eventually each child wrote one verse each.
If I close my eyes and listen for an angel I hear Rhiannon Giddens. She both moves me and soothes my soul. Wow!
Saw her live at the State Theatre in Sydney Australia last night, 7 April 2017. Support act for Bonnie Raitt and her band. Didn't expect a support band, but delighted to have been introduced to Rhiannon and her very talented band. Superb. Oh, the voice. And the banjo. And the fiddle. And the range of music genres covered. I'm buying whatever CDs/DVDs I can find. Loved this performance. The songs with a Louisiana flavour were especially good. If she's performing in your town, you should buy tickets now.

I saw her playing with the Boston Pops 4th of July Concert last night. Wow! It's always nice to learn about a talented musician I hadn't heard of before. Hopefully she will become a household name.
We saw Rhiannon with the Carolina Chocolate Drops over in Mountain View, AR a few years back. Fantastic. You should come again, Rhiannon. The Schlimmers are with us now at Lyon College. Love this song.

She was the best part of the Boston 4th of July concert 2018 (besides the Indigo Girls of course.... no one is better). Such a huge talent that had all of us in the crowd in awe.

I was lucky enough to see Rhianna live at The Spinning Jenny up in Greer South Carolina.... and let me tell you.. the videos do not do her voice justice ! Seeing and Hearing her live was so amazing ! She sang this song..too little too late..too bad... I have searched everywhere for a video..Fat City Blues did the song but Rhianna make that song come to life ! How I am hoping she records it..cause it sure was a great song she made her own in the singing of it !

If you like the beauty of Rhiannon's singing, a young lady who had been doing this type of song years before, is Madeleine Peyroux (some say she's a ghost of Billie Holiday) who goes vocally beautifully alongside Rhiannon's voice as well.
I always play them together. "Life Is Fine," is a great introduction to her. Her cover of Patsy Cline's "Walkin' After Midnight," turned into a jazz tune is excellent. These two ladies would be wonderful together. I'd pay for that.

I first discovered Rhiannon on ABC Radio National in Australia. Sadly the miserable music haters who run the joint have decided that music does not fit into their Marxist ideology and have canned all music on the station. Thank you Radio National for introducing me to some of the best music in Australia and the world. It's been good knowing you.

Just wanted to say that I love your music and you. Love this song. Brianna Lea Pruett, a singer songwriter that I love practiced this in a hotel window in a video on UA-cam. She passed away Sept 2 at age of 32. Her music was so important to me after my wife Brenda passed away in December. Has been a difficult year. Brianna also did a version of Elizabeth Cotten's Freight Train. Fund this on Vemeo. I love the Carolina Chocolate Drops and your music. You are so beautiful. Just had to share this with you
