This captain America conversation is everything wrong with people today. Everyone’s minds have been BROKEN BEYOND REPAIR by culture war nonsense. Mackie gave the most lukewarm, basic explanation of captain America and people immediately start taking it in the worst way. Cap in the MCU DOES NOT REPRESENT A COUNTRY. He represents being a good man always willing to do the right thing. It’s a set of ideals for us to aspire to. In every captain America movie there is either a scene or it’s the PREMISE OF THE PLOT where captain m is defying America. The first avenger literally criticizes the idea of Cap being used as propaganda. The other reality is that there are a bunch of dishonest “anti woke” propagandists that were already looking to tear this movie down and are purposefully taking it the wrong way.

I really wish that more people like you had your ideals and ways of looking at context as opposed to just making blank statements about something without any additional research into it. I have all the love in the world for Roxy and Kristian but their conversation about his comments, just speaks to the idea that they did not care enough to look into what it is. He actually meant, nor did they have an understanding of the character itself to give context to his comments in a much broader way. No one has any good media literacy anymore and it’s all just about giving a quick reaction to something and also for some reason caring so much about the PR of it all. Who cares if a small group of people get offended like the ones that you mentioned in your comment? They weren’t going to see the movie because they’re losers, they don’t actually care about entertainment, they only care about it for how it will financially benefit them.

Sam the character following Captain America Steve Rogers were literally American outlaws in both civil war, Infinity war. I thought Kristian just saw that movie and would be able to help explain Mackie speaking about what the character represents not Mackie, because Mackie was speaking for the character only.
People who made this an issue, are the same people that have an issue with the movie and him becoming Captain America to begin with. Plus don't even understand the character... The trailers show him having problems with the US President for this movie.

What it boils down to is Captain America encapsulates the era he was created and it’s values. Modern day America has changed with people who have different values, and he wants to project that onto the character. Which goes to my initial point of, if you don’t like him, then do something else. Why are creators constantly changing characters we’ve loved for decades, make something new if you don’t like it.

Regarding Mackie’s answer - He was saying that Cap doesn’t represent the United States as a country. Cap represents the values, idealism, aspiration of what it could be. Cap owns the flag because he won’t let it be sullied by lesser men.

Steve Rogers literally died as Steve Rogers not Captain America. Prior to the snap he gave up his shield as he no longer believed it was his duty to fight for America and was on the run from his own country for years. The man who made the Avengers outlaws is now President. Did Kristian forget that? I mean he literally just rewatched Winter Soldier and Civil War lololol. America was literally infiltrated by Hydra.

I now like Mackie a whole lot more. I’m delighted that almost everyone in the comments today didn’t take the bait in wanting to “boycott” his upcoming Captain America movie just because of a few of his words during an interview. Kristian, I have a hard time with your take on the Anthony Mackie thing. Especially since Winter Soldier and Civil War are some of your favorites in the MCU. Steve Roger's entire arc in the MCU was going from a propaganda figure used by America to someone who fights for his principals even when that goes against the wishes of his government. Falcon and Winter Soldier had Sam's character struggling with becoming a symbol for a country with a racially problematic past, who persecuted his people in the past, that's what the entire Isaiah Bradley arc was about. This is not Anthont Mackie bringing in personal politics. It's in the writing of his character and essential to the entire Captain America franchise. Of course this is not OUR America. But THIS America was infiltrated by Hydra. THIS President, Harrison Ford's character, arrested Steve Rogers and the other Avengers for not capitulating to their government's demands. This America gave the mantle of Captain America to John Walker. I just don't see how anything he said is contradictory to either Steve or Sam's character arcs, and I'm willing to bet that this movie continues a lot of the same themes. I mean he literally has to fight an out of control Giant Red Monster who is the President. If this movie is pro-Nationalism why is the president the villain? I think maybe youre looking at it from the wrong perspective and dont wanna bite your face off, but maybe try to examine it from a story perspective. The America in the MCU is not portrayed as a noble, honest or heroic thing. They've done nothing but stand in opposition to our heroes since they tried to take Tony Starks suit, imprisoned Thor and Hulk, refused to , developed secret weapons using an infinity stone, put Nick Fury on trial for the events of The Avengers, and so on and so forth.

Kristian just needed a topic for his show. Gave 0 thought to this.
Then gave zero thought to the fact that the report of the 180 million for the budget is the only credible outlet that has given a number. The others came from fan theories about reshoots. Jeff Snyder said they will be extensive reshoots in 2023 that would last from January to May. That wasn't true. They did like 22 days to add giancarlo esposito character and action shots. Marvel budgets reshoots and this is a very grounded movie. Probably a few flight scenes and red hulk

I’m sorry I’m going to say it for what it is, if you got upset at Anthony Mackie’s comments about what Captain America means to him, then number one, you need a reality check, two, you don’t know what the character is, but three you’re just as ignorant as you seem to be when it comes to understanding media literacy of general entertainment. He didn’t say “the name Captain America is stupid”. That’s not what he said!! And for some reason, it feels like everyone and their mother is receiving those comments like that’s what he meant. If you know the character of Cap, you would know that what Anthony said is 100% true at least with regards to how the MCU version has been portrayed. Steve Rogers held those ideals so well, he was never pro America, he was pro doing the right thing with integrity. I’m being serious when I say this, people need to grow a spine and actually make their own opinions. Stop always resorting to the most egregious thing possible first.

America in the MCU has: unethically bought and used Stark weapons, tried to take the Iron Man suit, used Steve for propoganda, imprisoned Hulk and Thor, tried to blame the attack on Manhattan on Nick Fury and SHIELD, they were infiltrated by Hydra and attempted to frame and kill Steve Rogers, secretly developed weapons using the Tessaract, killed Wanda's parents in a bombing, they framed Isaish Bradley for murder, arrested The Avengers for refusing to sign the accords without due process, tried to covertly buy Vibranium through terrorists, they gave John Walker the title of Captain America knowing that Sam was chosen by Steve, they're currently putting together The Thunderbolts for what seems like nefarious reasons, they were infiltrated by shape shifting aliens, and now their President is a Hulk.....in what world is America in the MCU a heroic institution? And why do you think Steve Rogers abandoned the title of Captain America and gave up his shield? The tagline for Falcon and Winter Soldier basically became, "do you think America would let a black man be Captain America?" How is it Mackie bringing this in? Its in the writing. It has been since the opening minutes of first avenger.

hol' up, Anthony Mackie is 46?!
Anyway, I think what his quote represents kind of harkens back to the first Captain America. Steve wasn't chosen to represent 'America'; he was selected for the traits Mackie pointed out in that interview. Throughout all his press during his tenure in the MCU, Mackie has always been bold and outspoken, so I shouldn't expect that to change whenever he's asked something like 'what does Captain America mean to you'. And in terms of backlash, that was never a new thing. There was always going to be an uphill battle trying to get people excited for a Black Captain America. From the moment the movie was announced, a line had already been drawn and certain demographics had made up their mind.

I like Kristian. Been listening for a long time, subscribed, all that good stuff. However, I've noticed lately a pattern that suggests some troubling things. This need to pushback against certain content under the guise of being mindful of profit is problematic in some ways and false in others. It's super concerning coming from someone with a comedic and stand up background. When it's Acolyte and Anthony Mackie....oh who is this for and you need to invite everyone in. But when its other material that you find funny or raunchy or offensive then its creative license and not everything is for everybody. That's two different ideologies to reconcile for me personally and sounds again like someone with looking to hide their politics behind something else. I do my best to separate art from artist, but I get why so many enjoy this admin while hiding their affiliation from the public.

People have a right to love or hate and be pessimistic/cynical about anything new that DC puts out considering they've been putting out many pieces of garbage for more than a decade at this point. The DC brand is at an all-time low and people don't have any hope or want to get excited about anything anymore since they've been burned over and over again. I enjoyed the DCEU more than most people, but many people hated the DCEU since the start and hated movies like Man of Steel and have been done with DC since that movie came out, and with more catastrophic films that continued to come out during the DCEU's run, DC has lost millions of fans, and it's going to be very hard, borderline impossible to bring them back after having so many L's, and if this new Superman movie isn't good or successful, then the rest of what James Gunn has planned for his universe will never see the light of day, and the DC brand will pretty much be dead in the water, even more so than it already is. Even Marvel/the MCU has lost millions of fans post endgame since they have continued putting out awful movies and shows throughout Phases 4 and 5, and there have been only a handful of super successful/beloved projects, but not enough to bring back the audience and numbers that they had in the past that were there for Endgame.

Starting off with $100 million opening domestic would be a huge win especially if it has legs.

I think a reason the buzz isn't big for Capt: Brave New World is that it's been over 4yrs since Falcon & Winter Solider w/o these characters showing up anywhere. Where have these characters been? With the MCU movies you saw Sam in other movies outside Cap 2. There should have been a mini movie or something leading up to this movie. The long gap with these MCU characters may be a problem...

    • @tonyilias2561
      @tonyilias2561 8 днів тому

That's another good reason. Phases 4 and 5 apart from being awful in terms of quality and content in terms of the stories they've tried to tell, have also not done a good job whatsoever in setting up for future events/plotlines or setting up certain characters to join in future conflicts/stories. Phases 1-3 did a great job of fleshing out most, if not all the main characters that we were following and setting them up for future events. Iron Man, Cap, Thor, etc. got multiple films to set up and flesh out their characters and to make them truly the main characters of the franchise for us to root for and care about, meanwhile Phases 4-6 have had a bunch of 1-off projects with new characters that we haven't seen in years and don't even like or care about whatsoever. We haven't seen characters like The Eternals, Moon Knight, She-hulk, Shang-Chi, Echo, etc. in any other projects besides their own in years, and many people didn't even like these characters, didn't care about them, and/or have completely forgotten about them. In Phases 1-3, we knew who our main Avengers and team that we're rooting for are. Since Endgame, besides like maybe Spider-Man, we pretty much have no idea who our main heroes are and haven't even been setting up future plotlines to get excited about in the future. Phases 1-3 had a clear vision and story arc that ended with Thanos and the Infinity Stones. Phases 4-6 have been for the most part very random, and barely anything has been set up or connects to each other in any meaningful way

And here in lies the biggest problem because you make a great point about it. I think what Kristian is so misguided by in his argument is that he believes that whatever an actor says about a film has to be true to what every single audience member that goes to see it wants to believe in. If that’s how we talked about movies, then I don’t think anyone would go see movies in general anymore. It’s not Anthony’s job to represent or appeal to everyone who could potentially go and see it by promoting the movie based off what he believes is representative of his character. And the thing is, nothing he said should be taken as offensive. He never said something derogatory about the name. He just said that he doesn’t feel like the name is all that representative of the actual country but more so the ideals of the person who takes up its mantle.

For Anthony Macky's statements I mean in an ideal world they would be perfect fine and he is right; I mean Captain America represents the aspirations of what America could and should be and you see that through out the movies, we don't live in an ideal world and a lot of people have fragile feelings. Even Back in 2008, there reports whether GTA 4 would impact the box office and the franchise and video game industry has only grown massively since then!
When GTA 6 finnaly comes out it is going to be huge, I do think a large amount of people (especially the 20-35 audience that often drive the box office) will be staying at home / addicted to the game during the first few weeks and I don’t seem the pausing the game to go to the movies. Offense shouldn’t dictate the conversation. That being said: there are points in the story where Cap himself feels this way… Don’t think it was a particularly smart or nuanced comment, but if engagement is truly the metric you measure by, a potential ‘ban’ is the biggest gift your detractors might present you with…

Sometimes the topics where it’s just to complain/yell at the internet and ppl on the internet for being who they are is exhausting… like we know. This is not new info. A lot of people suck online and say things to get a rye out of others or just to get some X engagements. Just don’t understand the reasoning of talking about that Superman topic besides just doing that. But that’s just me.

To be honest, I only got Apple cause Roxy kept naming all these shows so I decided to do the free trial. It’s now the last service I would cancel!

Here’s the thing with the Mackie Quote.
He worded it wrong but he’s right.
Every captain America movie except the first, has Cap literally in the run from the government he’s a symbol for.
The point is America can be corrupt like any institution, BUT the ideals of America are to be trustworthy, brave, and have integrity.
The ideal of America is Steve Rodger’s but sometimes America is actually Donald Trump. Same nation, same principles, 2 very different applications.
That’s what he meant. All conservatives mad about this are bad faith ppl who refuse to acknowledge nuance.

In Falcon Winter Soldier Sam couldn't even get a loan to help his family..we saw Isiah Bradley get mistreated & experimented on for decades so it's some reality in MCU but I do agree he suppose to be the hopeful change despite the hate for him having the shield. But he has burden being called a sellout & patriot

American doesnt mean the government, the ideals of America has always been in the what cap stood for, despite the actions of those in gov, standing up for what is right despite the world changing around you, individual liberty and freedom, innocent until proven guilty, etc…

Had to skip that whole Mackie bit after a while. How exhausting, I don’t know why you’d platform this shit. Let the idiots be angry in the corner i don’t get why it needs to be reported as news

She don’t need it, but I have to say, Ms. Roxy looked particularly beautiful
