Excellent video, however I am the opposite, I have always played organ and only lately got into playing piano, so being used to using my expression pedal I am usually hitting the piano keys either too hard or too soft. One thing I find I am telling some piano players when they play organ is use their left hand more for drawbars, turning on/off the Leslie, and slides instead of trying to play so much with both hands.

Original Hammonds (New B3 Series and XK5) have 3 Stages on each Key that sounds differrent. On other Organs or Keyboards that simulates a Hammond you don't have these. Not sure if Viscount Organs have this feature. But it's essential to know.
The older real ToneWheel organs have very special feel and play due to their technical production techniques. If someone has the ability to try, DO IT!!! It's worth playing a real HAMMOND compared to "Fake"-Simulations on Synthesizers or Keyboards.
Even NORD sounds ugly compared to a real HAMMOND. For Stage and light-weght users the SK-Range is suitable too.
As Michael Falkenstein always prays: With Bass-Pedal and (real) Leslie only!

    Thanks for that.
When I play organ sounds on my electronic keyboard it doesn’t sound good. I’m sure your tips on inversions and expression still apply. Any other tips for us keen on the organ sound but not lucky enough to own one?

All these still apply on an organ sound. You’re not “supposed” to use sustain if you want it to sounds proper! This is the mindset behind the organ playing.

Every thing she says is right for organs that went out of production in about 1985. Many people like those organs a some are still around, but current electronic organs and keyboards have voices rather than draw bars which in many cases contradict much of what she said.

I’m referring to a real organ vintage sound. Not what you can do with a keyboard. The proper way to play an organ ;)
