There is GPS devises that are RV
specific that bypass unfriendly roads and bridges that aren't friendly to RV'S
It just might be time to invest in one. Thanks for watching! Wishing you well.
Thank you for the words of encouragement to get on the road 👍🏻
Glad to help! Wishing you well and safe travels.
We've RV here in Colorado (always just in state) for almost 10-years and taking our first cross-country trip this late-summer to visit family in Northern Maine. Very excited!
That's wonderful! Maine is one of our favorite places. Although it's not as RV friendly as the big western states, it's still worth it. We generally stay near Camden, Maine every year and love it. Hopefully, your cross country trip will go smoothly. Thank you so much for commenting and we wish you well!
Hola Holaaa...Saludos desde Argentina 👋👋👋
Safety check is great advice, myself being a newbie let me learn about your trailer. I have been pulling trailers for years but not a RV, this let me get accustom to the intricacies of a RV vs a cargo trailer.
It doesn't take long.
50mph is about right. I think I was able to average a little more than that. however If I tried to hold over 55 I could certainly notice my fuel use climb. And if trying to push 60-65 mph, I swear I could see my fuel gauge dropping in real time. The truck certainly had the power to go faster and even felt reasonably stable and comfortable to an extent, but I would have to force myself to keep slower so I wouldn't plunge my economy through the floor. I was happy if I was at 15-16 mpg, which I thought was pretty decent for what I had. It could drop pretty quick though if I was in a hurry. And I could get even higher if I was in a really relaxed mood. But then it would be a tedious and long drive.
On long pulls I would need to stay at the top end of 3rd gear (out of 4) and in some cases would have my foot to the floor holding 40mph if I was lucky. I am sure if I had one of those newfangled real time econometer thingys I would have been like 2-3 mpg lol. It was always a tradoff if we would travel with the reserve water tank in my trailer full or not. As it made quite a difference in both handling and fuel consumption. I learned pretty fast to anticipate how to travel with it as empty as possible, especially when going through the mountains. A full water tank could cost a days drive an extra chunk of money in gas for sure. And for really no reason.
I think the most important thing we learned was to accept the mindset that we're not in a hurry. That was a difficult trait for me (Glynn) to lose.
We do travel with full water, especially in the desert and it doesn't seem to change the fuel economy too much. Likely, because most of our moving days are short. That said, it was not full for the cross country trip.
We always enjoy your comments! Thank you.
@@ResetYourJourney Thankyou for the reply! I also enjoy watching these vlogs. And writing about our experiences brings back memories for me. I can say that after 2 years I was getting close to being ready to settle down again. We got stopped a little short due to money problems, so who knows how much longer we would have kept going. I think it may have been before the winter set in, or perhaps another year..... Or perhaps we would still be out on the road.. But even up to that point the thoughts of stopping for any reason always made me feel as you guys did here... Wanting to get back out again.
We get out most any opportunity we can now, but its just not the same as just wandering about looking for things to see. With no schedule and no master plan.
And my boys are getting older and growing into their own. The times of the 3 of us going out long term again is probably not quite over. But its pretty close.
We're so glad you had those times with your boys. We can certainly relate. We hope you're able to do it again as a family. Older boys would offer a whole new experience.
@@ResetYourJourney It absolutely would be a different experience. Older boy is 16 now, and has come to be quite close to another individual to the extent that we had to have "the talk". And they have been -dating- hanging out for a little over a year now. He seems receptive to going on another trip for more than a few months, but I don't know if he would really want to when it came time for us to actually do it. Younger kid is all for it. And has hinted that he would prefer if we were still out on the road and pines for it occasionally. Money right now is the deciding factor though.
Absolutely the biggest thing I miss is the people we would meet along the way.
That's a tough one, but ultimately worth it if possible for all involved. Good luck.
