    I made this 2 days ago, didn't have green pepper, but added black sliced olives. Smells so delicious. Served over cooked pasta. Saves time on a busy day.

    what can I use instead of slow boiler?!

    • @califdad4
      @califdad4 8 років тому

      +rhian hatway you can get slow cookers pretty cheap, even in thrift stores, but just in a pot on the stove on low for maybe 2 hrs, just watch and check it, but 2 hrs would be safe 3 hrs might be better. I sometimes do red sauce on the stove and cook it for 2 to 3 hrs, on low. ( add some red wine too)

    I think, I would brown the chicken first before putting it in the slowcooker. Then I would make my own sauce. The idea is great and it can always be changed.

      +Barbara Blättler you know I used to do chicken all the time in a slow cooker and never browned it , cooked in home made sauce, and a few other things like wine, 1, sm tomato sauce and let it cook all day, while I was at work and it always came out really good. I really couldn't see , why I needed to brown the meat, as would have been a extra pan to clean and again it was so good. I also served it over angle hair.

      +califdad4 Please, what is angle hair? I have never heard of it. I live in Namibia and English is not my mother tongue, but German is.

      +califdad4 Is it like spagetti or more like those Chineese noodles?
      I had to learn 3 languages at schol and all 3 had to be taken as first languages. German, English and Afrikaans. But that is more than 40 years ago.

      similar to Vermicelli noodles, just thin spaghetti noodles. I am in California and lots of 3rd 4th generation Italians and some told me that their families always used Vermicelli noodles

    No. The sauce DOES NOT thicken. It's very watery!!! This is more like a soup than chicken cacciatore! Delicious, yes... but I didn't know I would be making soup!

      Hi there, I'm so sorry this didn't work for you. Some of our users who reviewed the recipe made substitutions to make the sauce thicker. You can view them in the review section of the recipe page: allrecipes.com/recipe/8817/slow-cooker-chicken-cacciatore/

    Jar of store bought sauce again. Why the hell does Chef John want to be affiliated with this channel?

    • @ImjustKelly73

      +Billy Door Of course you could make your own sauce and use it in this recipe instead of store bought, but these recipes are coming from home cooks who probably are busy with work and kids and this is just a faster way of putting it together for them. Like Julia Child said,"Recipes are not written in Stone." They are a guide. :)

      +Kulinary Kreations The use of the jar of sauce should be the choice the viewer makes based on how much effort and time they want to put into the food they prepare, but it should be the responsibility of recipe channels or recipe databases to discourage lazy and bad habits like using a jars of sauce. We all already know how to buy a jar of sauce and empty it into a slow cooker. Show people how to make an easy and better version of these jars of sauce or don't even bother making videos at all.

      +Billy Door most people want quick recipes, allrecipes has home made sauce recipes online, you can do either one, and it will come out and I doubt you could tell the difference once cooked for hours. I used to make sauce and freeze it and when I put my version of this in my slow cooker, I put a frozen container of sauce in with red wine in and let it cook while at work. Enjoyed it every time, but it was cooking for 8 hrs
