- Rory Best's comments this week on Joe Schmidt and Ireland's World Cup caused headlines. Matt Williams & Shane Horgan had their say today:
"I would've expected a little bit more."
"I can't imagine how hurt Joe Schmidt must be."
"It's heartbreaking stuff for Joe."
A comment as crooked as his line out throws...
Shane Horgan speaks well, doesn’t he? Solid head on solid shoulders! Somebody you’d want around your camp, Ireland!
If it was an issue why didnt Best and the rest of the players speak up? Its no good saying it afterwards, shows the weakness of the group mentally and why they shat the bed in the QF.
Maybe he is saying this to promote joes book??
Eeeehh? I don't see it to be honest.... Rory Best gave his honest assessment of what they as a group did wrong and could have done better. I don't feel that was a stab in the back at all. I think Joe Schmidt did a great job with Ireland but surely he didn't do everything right and it's fair that we all learn from the mistake as I'm sure he would do if he continued coaching. Saying that the players didn't have enough independence can be seen as self critique as much as critique of Joe. Rory was the captain and should have been the leading voice in that player group but he obviously went with Schmidt's style and is now saying that was a mistake. That doesn't mean it was only Schmidt's mistake
