I have no idea what kind of aesthetic the Eros album art or it's many fan-made iterations fall under, but I'll be damned if it isn't the most oddly entrancing thing I've ever seen. SNW felt like a precursor but this hits the nail on the weird, indescribable head. Something about the use of water, sparing use of plant life, and warm, glowing colors with hints of dark green is incredible.
Great thought, SNW is probably my favorite album of all time ever since it dropped day one. But this album would have definitely been a follow up to that pain and suffering and I think they wanted to escape it desperately. I am so glad we still have deftones today, no matter whats been going on internally.
Something special about the way this song is not finished/polished. It's at a point where you just can't touch it anymore. Chi's gone, and it's just beautiful the way it is.
This and Smile man.... Makes me truly believe in the possibility that Eros may be thier magnum opus/finest work.... Rock gods plz let us be graced with this masterpiece at some point. Even if its thier final record what a way to honor Chi man. Deftones fan for 20+ years and they haven't faultered a beat.
The melody. It sounds so empty and sad, yet so beautiful, peaceful and nostalgic in a way. It takes me back to a place I’ve never been to and makes me miss someone I’ve never met.. if that makes sense. This is for sure my favorite Deftones track! Smile was pretty badass as well and I have a strong feeling that Eros could be their best and most important album, never to be heard. I do hope that we get the pleasure to listen to Eros one day. The perfect way for them to drop it, in my opinion, would be to release it as their final album and this piece of music right here should be the last track on it. As a farewell, an end of an era. I've tried finding long and hard for more than 6 years something like the Deftones, people say Chevelle and Tool - but they have a different sound. This is so melancholic yet so much joy.
Its just one song but try two way mirror by loathe. Has deftones vibes to it. I also just discovered Hum after reading about them playing at dia de los deftones. Deftones have referenced them as an influence, you can definitely hear it.
If you started with the Deftones from the beginning, you might like the band "Relative Ash", though they sound more like Adrenaline/Around the Fur era Deftones. They were amazing live and really cool people, too. I still have a shirt somewhere that the band all signed after hanging out a long while just talking to us. They didn't graduate onto the more atmospheric sound the Deftones did after White Pony (which hadn't released yet when RA's album was recorded) but had they kept going I always felt they probably would have, they were very Tones-influenced. If you search relative ash their album "Our Time With You" should come up, it still holds up on its own merits imo.
Nobody else comes close. Just be grateful we have them in the first place. I don't even think there are that many bands who can come close just on the sustained quality of their output over two and a half decades, nevermind the sound.
listen to The Love Machine or Romance by Varials. i think the vibes are pretty damn close to deftones on those two tracks specifically. I always thought Chevelle was just as good as Deftones they give me the same feeling tbh
You may talk for hours about Tool's precision, perfection, mathematics behind the songwritng and composing, it's ok. Great respect for Tool... However if you want to know how emotions sound like, go listen to Deftones, cause they are the true masters of magicly picking, what's in your heart and soul, and transforming it into music. And if you feel empty, they will pour all of their best inside of you and make you feel alive again.
I actually agree with you, yet a balance has to be struck between the two for ANY music to be even CLOSE to perfect. After all, don't forget not only the LISTENER detects it, like you have said well, but the person PERFORMING it... ever heard of "Feeling The Audience" as so many bands say? Things will never be perfect. Just well balanced.
Eros will be released one day. This album might be their best ever. But we will have to wait until that day to hear it in it's entirety. Until then, long live Deftones!

I wish they'd release Eros. I remember finding the Team Sleep demos just floating around the internet, I alot of them were bare bones and nothing like TS album. Chi was one of the bassists that inspired me to become a bass player.
Releasing Eros is something Chino definitely wants, one day, who knows when. But it will happen... Although in recent days the drive to complete the album has kind of dwindled but I have faith they'll get into a certain mood one day and they will want to sit down and work off of what material they have towards the album. One can hope. Personally I think it would be kind of disrespectful to the fans to NOT hear what Eros had to offer, but that's just my opinion.

One of the most anticipated albums yet to see release ever, it's still too painful for the band to revisit & complete it (Chino & Abe have stated it's about 75-80% done), but they seem more interested in moving forward & not going back. We may only see a retrospective release when the band is all said & done, if at all. A shame. Rest In Peace Chi Cheng, never forgotten 🙏
