If you were operating in the spirit, you would've continued singing and wouldn't have stopped to tell the lady to stop singing with you, you're singing a solo, that's not generally sung as a solo, or what God was doing. It would've been evidence. God doesn't operate like that and wouldn't have told you to handle the situation in the manner you chose. As a singer myself I know the feeling of having other singers in the audience trying to out sing you on a quiet song. I would have not called her out. I would've left that up to the audience members. But I do understand Kim feeling the way she felt. Maybe the other lady caught Kim on a really bad day when she just wasn't having it. But at least she got her up to sing later.

I am glad that you were able to have this clip because when I saw the first clip, I already knew people would run with it. I will say this, in the past I've defended Kim but from the first clip, this clip, & her response video I do think that her delivery was a little sharp. I think she could have possibly went about things differently. Especially because "thank you Lord" is such a meaningful song that it is easy to get wrapped up in the lyrics and start thinking about what you are thankful for. I love Kim & I will always love her voice and appreciate her contribution to gospel music, but the older I get the more I start to think that there may be just a hint of pride there. Especially, because that song is not about anyone else but the Lord. Even if she was singing a solo, there are ways you go about navigating those moments when the crowd is not on the same page as you or the musicians. I say that because I have led worship for years so I completely understand the frustration that arise when someone may be a distraction to you during a song. I also wonder does she have a PR team. I feel like she's been in the music industry too long not to have a PR team to help her with public speaking. I’ve been done like this! If you don’t sing, you probably won’t understand. There is nothing worse in church than when you’re trying to minister and a person in the audience is trying to get attention by trying to outdo you. I sing and there was one church that every single time that I was invited to sing, there was a member that tried to loudly sing along. I would have do all kinds vocal gymnastics and go places I knew they couldn’t, to shut them up! Mind you, I’m a soloist!! That is irritating and it pulls you out of the Spirit because people are aware that they shouldn’t be singing with a soloist, it’s not a congregational song, so hush. They were invited to minister and people like that lady, want attention. It’s like you’re a member there and if they don’t ask you to sing, that’s not the guest singer’s problem, but don’t embarrass yourself by being an attention seeker. Either they’ll be like Kim and call you out or do like I do and go vocally where you can’t, you’ll be embarrassed either way. That was silly anyway, trying to sing along with THEE Kim Burrell? People don’t like her and they see anything she does as offensive, even if she’s right. For the people that have a problem with it, if it were you, you would have done the same. People have become so self righteous when it comes to saying what someone else should have done, when they’ve never been in that situation. I’ve been done like this! If you don’t sing, you probably won’t understand. There is nothing worse in church than when you’re trying to minister and a person in the audience is trying to get attention by trying to outdo you. I sing and there was one church that every single time that I was invited to sing, there was a member that tried to loudly sing along. I would have do all kinds vocal gymnastics and go places I knew they couldn’t, to shut them up! Mind you, I’m a soloist!! That is irritating and it pulls you out of the Spirit because people are aware that they shouldn’t be singing with a soloist, it’s not a congregational song, so hush. They were invited to minister and people like that lady, want attention. It’s like you’re a member there and if they don’t ask you to sing, that’s not the guest singer’s problem, but don’t embarrass yourself by being an attention seeker. Either they’ll be like Kim and call you out or do like I do and go vocally where you can’t, you’ll be embarrassed either way. That was silly anyway, trying to sing along with THEE Kim Burrell? People don’t like her and they see anything she does as offensive, even if she’s right. For the people that have a problem with it, if it were you, you would have done the same. People have become so self righteous when it comes to saying what someone else should have done, when they’ve never been in that situation. Highly hypocritical too, some of the same folk saying Kim was wrong would have cursed the lady out.

And I don’t say that lightly… she just is… Unfortunately off stage she would always say and show behavior that was so not Godly…lol…. It’s just is what it is ….singing gospel music doesn’t mean you’re saved.

Thank you for the context and information about the gift of the singer and her experience as a BLESSING to... I'm sure many churches ... maybe not the national/ international stages... but CHURCH...and for me church has always been an experience where you want the congregation to get filled up...caught up...lifted up in the SPIRIT... so this was a bit confusing in presentation... Ms. Burrell asked them to join her...yes by lifting hands...but in that spirit also basically told the lady to HUSH... so if I'm the lady... I'm getting look at me... hear my runs and riffs but BE QUIET... FORGET WHATEVER you might be feeling...HEAR ME...
That makes me sad... this was church...not a concert stage... the congregation should not be intimidated by a gifted singer in their midst but uplifted... Ms. Burrell missed an opportunity during service that she tried to capture after "her show"...

This video is about someone that will hold up the wrong of a person just because they are a fan. I don't know if you know them personally, but, upholding a bad attitude is wrong on so many levels. Kim was wrong. Plain and simply put....WRONG!!! As someone else pointed out, you can see people putting their arms down as she is disrupting her own song. They may have been feeling something but she killed it. People initially had their hands raised and then they started putting them down. The main problem; this is not a surprise coming from her. If this was the first, maybe second time, people would give her a pass. However, Kim is known to be like this. She needs prayer.
"Don't sing and praise with me because I can't concentrate." That is how I interpreted her actions. When people are praising YHWH, it is not always going to be pretty.
