I don't see how anyone in journalism fails to have a crush on Madhu Trehan, even at 77. What a legend. Speaks eloquently and with such authority, and as someone has mentioned below, on credibility and intregrity she is unparalleled.

Between the lines. People are now greatly educated to know what between the lines is, where a journalist comes from. And if that is the pattern, one gets to know where the journos biases are.

Newspapers never ran on paid subscriptions and newsstand sales alone. These don’t even met 50% of their expenses. From very early days, they ALWAYS depended on ads.
This the governments used very well.
Newspaper publishing is a BUSINESS, after all. If they don’t meet the business, they need to close unless U have Bezos to bankroll from their personal wealth. Even this they can not do year after year after year.
This revenue model extended to network TV, cable TVs and nis UA-camrs.
Very often, reporters, once they become “stars,” start thinking that they are larger than their producers, their editors, and even 10:19 their publishers in their companies.
And then, they start behaving like they are larger than the politicians they cover.
Very soon they are shown their place. This has happened is happening and will happen in the future All Over the Globe.
In India reporters and anchors fall into this trap simply because they are on camera every day and become familiar faces wherever they live. This goes into their head before they are shown the door , or they fall on their own.

When Madhu Trehan talked about Nehru started the process of gagging the Media, Barkha Dutt swiftly tried to deflect her attention away at the 29th Minute. That was a key moment.

Lovely seeing an interview with Madhu Trehan after a long time! She certainly hasn’t changed one bit 👏 hopefully we get to see more of her. Madhu Trehan has re-invented herself. She is also stoic and grand saying that many people don't recognize her at the India Today conclave.
Barkha Dutt seems so disappointed when Madhu says "the Govt.has also done good things and talks about village kids with school bags, using clean village toilets.....!!!!!! immediately asks what has the Govt. done wrong!
Further Madhu enhances her persona taking back her statement on education and educated leaders.Further she does'nt allow Barkha to fire from her shoulder.

I haven't kept up with Madhu's journalism career, but based on this interview, it seems being part of the 'elitist' cabal is a challenging 'choice’, because it undermines your credibility and integrity.
I also share Madhu's view that there's a lack of in 'field' journalism nowadays. I also reject the notion that people prefer a 'shouting match' between panelists. Absolutely on point!
Lastly, I agree that employing subtlety in writing can be a savvy strategy. Some might see it as cautious, but it's actually about trusting your audience to decode your message while still conveying the point. Her practical approach is refreshing, and I appreciate her frankness too! ❤

We are interested to know suggestions your brother is giving now, after he faces lectures by his students on secularism, pluralism and keeping spine straight in front of powerful. We see some coincidence between your leaving newslaundry and your brother becoming king of godi media! Newlaundry also able to criticise, expose India Today unfettered since then. Time is very powerful..you see!

Thanks Barkha for bringing in such a fearless & unbiased journalist ; at the same time her evolution - story from a woman to a struggling journalist , her long journey from ' News track ' away till 'Times Of India Magazine '& NewsLaundry' journalism, through your brilliant interview in 'Outside In' podcast. Great for her tips to the current story - writers of the dailes as to how to make a controversial issue to deal with to present in a more credible way, such as - in a more lucid & simplistic communication, remaining far from direct exposition, being economic while dealing a super sensitive issue,; not addressing any political party- involvement , & finally, being unbiased of personal preferences to particular caste, creed or religion while in journalism - spirit & all.

All I see is two journalists basically conceding in a subtle way what right wing has been saying all this while! When you are in the centre of a storm you don't talk how bad the drought is, you only say f@#% rains!! Barkha is trying the balancing-act out of some pressure even though it might not be external. I don't disregard their opinions that much but it is the points of agenda in the entire discussion which Barkha deliberately chose to while carefully omitting key contextual/contemporary topics(politics) which cry out loud to be discussed - the obvious things like Institutional capture(CEC appointment), Judiciary conduct(threat to the constitution), Pogroms to list the very least. This Trehan character belongs to the elite machiavellian class which the bhakts always talk about, although that is another thing that the guy they support is creating a whole new class of such people which definitely are worse than their predecessors(eg, Smita ANI). POOR BHAKTS I must say!

The problem with theses journos are, that they are not able to come to term that now, what they say is/are not taken as gospel which used to be the case. I always wanted to ask a fundamental question to them, when we got freedom, we got divided on the basis of religion. The majority Hindu population did not buy the idea of creating a Hindu country even though there were political voices craving for it and that too when millions of people lost everything during migration. Then it was, rather easy to convince everyone to go for a Hindu country, despite that, we did not. After roughly 50 years later what happened, why general public started supporting Hindu ethos. They don't see any issues with them. Now, in the era of information revolution, people don't need them unless they actually become neutral which is impossible for them, primarily owing to root of ideology that they are from. They never allowed a contradictory view to exist and now they blame other for the same.. What you have set as a trend, would only be followed...

This not an India centric problem , but global one. You have CNN and Fox in USA. Religion never to far from politics since pre medieval era. Catholicism vs Protestantism and patronage from the rulers. This is more pervasive in Christian culture e. g. Europe and USA in subtle way and more open in the Islamic world. The hindutva in India is more defensive reaction special after partition when Muslim run away with muslim majority geography of Pakistan and Bangladesh.

A truth and reconciliation commission 3 party needs to be setup. Govt, Opposition and Journalists...let their be an organised debate without shouting and greveances heard live. The logic behind thought process. The this debate should not to be put anyone down but to find solution... That's the only way i can think of...
