I am a high myope (-8.00 D, slowly increasing, so reaching double-digit territory in couple of years is very likely) and wear glasses (I carry spare pair if something happens). I have small frames and high index lenses so no one can really tell that I am very nearsighted. However, if someone asks about my prescription, I have no problem to talk about it. There is nothing wrong about having high myopia and wearing glasses.

@@nicolesmith7345 well, let me start with the fact it does not state any of the risks for high myopic patients like retina detachment, partial or total blindness, impairment, depression, degeneration myopia and so many other problems. Instead, it only gives shallow examples of practical "risks" in real life, when the risks within your eyes are worse than that. My mother has degeneration myopia above -20 dioptric for many years now. When she was younger they failed to identify deprivation amblyopia in her right eye misunderstood as high myopia. The now very high myopia causes extreme pain in both her eyes daily and around some months ago her eyesight got increasingly worse in her right eye and all this makes her spend her days in deep depression and anxiety for what is and what is to be of her eyesight, as for now she has lesser than 10% eyesight in her eyes. High myopia is a disgrace! This video should point at the real downside of high myopia, but it doesn't. I am from Brazil and the treatment for high myopia here is too expensive, so many people like me and my mom have no conditions to pay for LASIK, IOL or whatever treatment there is for high myopia.

@@RangelGabriel Hi, the problem might be that these operations won't help. I just found out about the problems you describe. These seem to be related to the length of the eyeball, which if I'm not misguided, these operations don't really change. So the scary thing might be, that there's no way to get completely rid of the risk of going blind, coming from being highly myopic as an adult. 😱

Surgery itself is not a complicated , it is simple one. But, it is a surgery and there are associated risks like infection (although very rare) , etc.
U should look for pros and cons.
In my case, i was fed up with using contacts (i used it for 15 years), and i made my mind to go for surgery.
In my opinion, your world will not change if u go for surgery. U r likely to get some or the other issues even after surgery (specially halos, glares, night vision issues), but unlikely to get more serious issues.
Dependence on spect/ contacts will be gone, that would be the biggest take.

That's not always the case. Surgery is not recommended for people with high prescription, because it usually goes on to become degenerative or pathological myopia. The surgery must be done only when the eye power is stable for atleast two years and even then, people with high prescription tend to get cataracts much earlier or even worse macular degeneration. You know it's a tough decision for people to take. It's better to be able to have some vision rather than no vision. Nobody wants to be disabled or have this god forsaken spectacles on us all the time. It's not as simple as it seems. There are lot of things to be considered and requires a lot of patience
