Sonic Mania - Part 16 - Knuckles's Mirage Saloon Zone Act 1
Вставка

- Back at the beginning of Sonic and Tails's Mirage Saloon Act 1, did you notice Heavy Magician knocking Knuckles off the Tornado plane? Well, this stage is where he wound up after falling. Apparently landed without sustaining any injury, Knuckles then gets up and gets going, and his verson of Mirage Saloon Act 1 begins.
For Knuckles, this means traveling through a canyon's winding roads so he can eventually meet up with Sonic and Tails later on. Like any well-designed Sonic stage, Knuckles's version of Mirage Saloon Act 1 is full of both gimmicks common to the Zone and gimmicks no found in any other stage.
Giant Gold Ring Count:
Total: 3
Available in one go: 3
Badniks:
Vultron - Behaves just like in the others' Mirage Saloon Act 1.
Cactula - Behaves just like in the others' Mirage Saloon Act 1.
Bumpalo - Behaves just like in the others' Mirage Saloon Act 1.
Rattlekiller - This rattlesnake-themed Badnik is found only on totem poles, curling around them. They will ascend or descend the pole to get close to Knuckles and suddenly lunge.
Roller mk.II - A Badnik themed on an armadillo. They stand there guarding the area, then curl into a ball and roll at a high speed toward Knuckles. They can also jump while curled in a ball. They can only be defeated when uncurled. Unlike the original version, the mk.II version has unlimited range and will pursue you as far through the stage as it's capable of. Its AI is very limited though.
Other Sonic References:
Sonic 1 - Roller Badniks were first seen in Spring Yard Zone. Their jumping noise, unlike the playable characters', is identical to Sonic's in Sonic 1.
Sonic 2 - The seesaw gimmick/obstacle in this stage functions like the ones in Hill Top Zone. He can also find breakable rocks on the floor like the ones there.
Sonic 2 - Rattlekiller's attacking is much closer to the Crawltons found in Mystic Cave Zone rather than the Caterkiller or any known variant.
Sonic 2 - This stage is reminiscent of Sand Shower Zone, a scrapped Zone from that game, namely in its canyon theme and the light brownish color of the terrain.
Sonic Chaos - Uber Caterkiller, in this game, resembles the boss of Gigapolis Zone and even has the same attacks, only Uber Caterkiller's segments are bigger.
Sonic CD - The breakable glass balls and pinball flippers from Collision Chaos return, though reimagined for the southwestern US theme, alongside their sound effects. The spinning bars of three spiked balls, previously seen in this game's Stardust Speedway Act 1, also return.
Sonic 3 - The swinging vines in Angel Island Zone return in this Act, and only this Act.
Sonic 3 - The green piñatas Knuckles can pop to gain height are functionally identical to the balloons in Carnival Night Zone.
Knuckles' Chaotix - Uber Caterkiller's sound effect when bouncing its segments is the same bounce sound effect used in Amazing Arena Zone's boss.
Sonic Championship - Wanted posters of Bark the Polar Bear, Bean the Dynamite, and Nack the Weasel (AKA Fang the Sniper) can be seen where you fight the boss.
Sonic Adventure - This song takes from "Unknown from M.E." in style.
Sonic CD HD Remake - Christian Whitehead has confirmed that Desert Dazzle is the inspiration for this particular Mirage Saloon Zone theme.
Non-Sonic References:
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - Like with the other characters' Mirage Saloon Act 1, the iconic couple of phrasses appear at the beginning of the gasme.
Uber Caterkiller challenges Knuckles here too, though as Knuckles is on the ground rather than in a plane, the attack patterns are totally different. Here, Uber Caterkiller has only four segments, including its head. The bottom and third-from-bottom segments bounce at a fixed trajectory (meaning you can stand roughly between the Bark and Bean posters and you'll be fine), while the second-from-bottom segment rolls along the ground. Only the head is vulnerable, and it never leaves the far right side of the screen. Once you get its patterns, this boss is a piece of cake, but it can be difficult if you don't know what it'll do, especially since Knuckles's lower jumps means less room for error than if Sonic or Tails fought this one.
I love how this zone is designed around knuckles abilities
When obviously since it's a knuckles only act
Wait what You mean I got to go play it over again
unfortunately the only act to have this.
The only reason this level exists is because sonic and tails managed to stay on the plane and had to do the sky chase level
@@juliodonofreo Green Hill Act 1 and 2, Chemical Plant Act 2, Lava Reef Act 2 also has Knuckles only sections.
I love how S&T's Act 1 music plays for like 2 seconds then Knuckles just gets yeeted off
Stop the Animal Abuse Eggman!
It's funny how Knux got yeeted off a plane.
"Oh no!"

Knuckles: *chilling*
Heavy Magician: You're going to brazil
As a Brazilian who understands this meme, I approve this message.
I never got the Unknown from M.E. cues until now. Well then!
This version of this Act is one of my favorites in the whole game. A wild west psuedo-casino!
Yes like slap a cowboy hat on knuckles again and we got it for both stages.
This version of the boss looks so much easier than the sonic & tails version.
Fuck the sonic and tails boss
Byrdstar fax
It's a better level
but the level is much harder
Knuckles has the best theme for this stage
Act 2 is my favorite however I think knuckles does have better act 1 music
I feel bad for laughing when he got knocked off.
I dont blame you 😭
Oh no!
"FUCK OFF KNUCKLES"
i dont
The magigian : I'm going to end this mans life. Knuckles : **Survives fall**
This level can actually be beaten by Sonic and Tails or just Tails solo. It may take some time though through trial and error. At this part here in 4:15, as Sonic, he needs to gain momentum from running up and down until you hit that red spring. Or an easier way is for Tails to carry Sonic. At 4:53, keep on jumping until Tails joins you back to be able to carry Sonic one last time.
I love this soundtrack
0:04 Oh No!
I got a glitch that sent me to the knuckles version when i was playing sonic, now i know it was knuckles's stage it makes a lot of sense because i saw stuff that wouldn't be possible to beat as sonic and it said act 1 not 2
Same happened to me. I was so confused at first
Cool fact: Mirage Saloon Act 1 (Knuckles) takes inspiration from the unused Dessert Dazzle zone found in Sonic CD. Additionally, Mirage Saloon Act 2 (Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles) draws its inspiration from Dust Hill/Sand Shower/Sand Hill Zone, which were scrapped zones from Sonic 2, but later restored through ROM hacks like Sonic 2 Long Version, Sonic 2: The Lost Levels, and Sonic 2: The Secret Worlds. Lastly, Act 1 (Sonic and Tails) seems to be influenced by Sky Chase from Sonic 2, suggesting that it might be situated above Mirage Saloon Act 2. This notion aligns with the view of Oil Ocean when you launch, indicating it's set on the west side island. It's interesting to note that Mirage Saloon Act 1 (Sonic and Tails) could have drawn inspiration from Cyan City, a fan-made level. This is quite amusing considering that Sonic Mania was developed by fans and officially licensed by Sega. Furthermore, the music in Act 1 might have been suitable for Dessert Dazzle, while the music in Act 2 could have been a good fit for Sonic 2's Sand Shower, Dust Hill, and similar zones.
I also really enjoy this version of the level.
I did make mention of some of those in the description for this and the other Mirage Saloon videos of mine. I try to keep away from information regarding fanmade stuff and ROM mods though, in part because they're a legal minefield and in part because there are so many of them that there's not enough room in the descriptions.
I love how no one talks about how he has 351 rings lol
I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone have so many in one level
@@miscellaneoofI got like,500 once,it was on casino night tho
actually that bouncing sound came from Knuckles Chaotix in the Amazing Arena Zone when you reach one of those projector screens where you'll see a robotic Eggman in Acts 1 through 4 and it was actually used once before in this game when Metal Sonic bounces around for one of his attacks back in Stardust Speedway he used that attack twice at the beginning of phase 4 but you won't hear it if the both of you aren't on screen
Wow, that's an amazingly detailed knowledge of Sonic sound effects. Thanks, I'll add that to the list. I'd add it to Stardust Speedway, but I'm out of description space.
you're welcome and it's no big deal i'm just glad i could help
I love gliding into those pinatas

ok. Low polygonal Sonic
@@MilkIsTheOne Better than DX’s design
sorry for the late comment, but there is a mistake in the description.
this level is based on a scrapped level from sonic 2 called "Sand Shower Zone".
Dust Hill Zone (which is probably an earlier name of Mystic Cave Zone) is the ruined present version of Emerald Hill Zone.
There is no such thing as a late comment on any of my videos!
Thank you for the correction--I thought that WAS "Dust Hill Zone," but looking it up, you're right. I'll edit the description.
thatsa lotta rings my good sir
I was playing sonic mania as sonic and tails. I used debug mode randomly on mirage saloon act 1 (sonic path) and then when I beat it, it made me play the knuckles version of act 1 as sonic and tails.
And here is me not knowing that this level exists :o
Guys, just adjust the quality to 720p60.
he gets the best version of this stage
How does knuckles survive these falls
By being in a 2-D platformer.
He’s knuckles damnit!
Same way he survived being electrocuted
He’s rougher than the rest of them, the best of them, and tougher than leather.
The best song on the game above Studiopolus.
Man so many lives
I was playing plus as tails and had to play through both act 1s
There a glitch in back-of-the-days. When you play as knuckles you don’t get yeeted off. The word 'got' gets yeeted
frick off knuckles your now in sonic cd’s scrapped zone
I hate those damn Roller mk.IIs. They didn't deserve the Sonic CD jump sound.
Hill Top reference
never enable "& knuckles" mode on this act again.
This boss body look like a poké ball, is true?
wow 🥺🥺🥺
wait is this real? or a mod?
Sonic Mania is definitely a real, official game.
@@Overhazard apologies xD. i havent been keeping up with the updates for this game. i believe there wasnt any "knuckles version" of this zone's act 1 before
edit: wait this was 3 years ago. was this altered act 1 always here??
@@luiss428 It was there from the start.
@@luiss428 Yea, you just have to play the stage as Knuckles.
it like mirage road from sonic rush
