Sorry to comment again but OMG....when you zoomed in to the skin cells...THAT is the most clever, science nerd thing you have ever done and I am here for it.
i'm an oily/combination skin type (depending on weather) and it comes out patchy + separating on every inch of my face too!! i find that with me it best sits when i've freshly showered and cleansed, let my face cool down to room temperature, i scrape the brush on the tip of the bottle to get rid of as much excess as i can, then i dot it very lightly on my face and tap it in with my pointer and middle fingers. i am guessing that it separates on the face because even though it's a serum foundation, it has a specific consistency that is hard to fully spread around (almost like slightly dried oil paint), so working in really light layers on a clean face with warm fingers can be very helpful! hopefully that method works for anyone reading this!
I am SO glad you put this up! I'd seen some wear reviews that had me putting it on my buy list, but, thinking back, I don't think a single one (until now) had dry skin. Seeing as how I tend to normal in 100% summer humidity and ultra-dry through winter months (and my skin tends to be reactive/sensitive so even summer can go dry) I think I'd better pass. FYI - Used the liquid blush today and it was awesome!
Agreed, the blush is very nice! I only have the sample size but I have a feeling that tiny little thing is going to last quite a while - wow it's pigmented!

I have oily skin but this foundation makes me wonder about the plant derived ingredients. Sometimes they sneak these in, claim the product to be fragrance free, when in fact, these plant ingredients are mostly used for the scent they add. (I need to do more research, to see if that’s the case here.)
I’m usually Fair - Light in most foundations and I can’t seem to figure out which shade I am in this line. I was going to go for 170W or 190W although the latter one is Light Medium..it still looks light though!
So I have dehydrated combo skin and I moisturize a lot because I prefer looking a little too luminous than my skin feeling tight and whatnot. This did a good job at keeping my t-zone not oily, and the rest of my face felt ok. However, a coworker of mine with dry skin tried it with a pore smoothing primer (elf putty) and she had to start over with a hydrating primer instead because it was so bad. Overall, moisturize A LOT if you want this to work lmao. Beautiful foundation though.
It really is gorgeous. I did contemplate returning it after that first wear test, but after the second? Nah. It's worth coating my face in oil first! 🤣😂
I'm mad that this was a miss for you cause damn that foundation looks so good in this video!! Edited to add: ok...it looked amazing on camera but in natural light, I can see what you mean. Dang. What a bummer! (I was watching while adding my comments lol).
It's amazing how some foundations look great on camera, but up close is a completely different story! On that note ...such a bummer that I'm near sighted, probably makes me more critical of foundation in general 😂🤣
I already know when it says for all skin types its not for me..lol Dry skin issues. LOL I feel you I can't afford to have beauty and clothes as a hobbie either the clothes took the back burner for me in the past couple years..too beauty obsessed
Right?! I think it's the same for very oily skin types as well. Normal skin people probably have it easiest here, while we are out here going "🕵️♀️🕵️♀️" on every foundation release 😂
Dang, anytime I see light olive shades I get excited, but I'm a sensitive/dry girl. Someone else said the concealer is 10x better than the foundation. Finger crossed!
I laughed so much when you said you were glad you don’t have a clothing hobby because makeup is expensive as it is. I can agree you are lucky I have a passion for both of those hobbies and I can tell you it really does suck to have a passion for those hobbies. Not only is it expensive, but it’s hard enough for me to separate the two on my Instagram since I am supposed to stick with one niche in order to grow.My Instagram has clothing and makeup and I don’t want to make a separate account because I feel it’s best to have a link to just one account it’s easier for me. Also loved how detailed you were with this video. Do you think it would be good for combination skin?
I feel that so much. Tbh I could probably grow this channel better if I stuck to just makeup or skincare content. But aaaah I can't - I love both worlds equally! I think it could work for combination depending: if you have very dry areas, it might be more difficult. Normal with more oily spots is likely to do just fine with it imo!
Any tips on how to buy foundation online? I don't really use foundation so not sure which shade would be good for me, and with the quarantine it's not really possible to go try samples at a Sephora store. I know if you have a foundation, you can match the shade to other brands, but how to pick your first foundation?
Ooh that's a good question. You're right that most foundation finders rely on you knowing other shade matches. Hmm maybe your best bet is starting with a sampler? I know some brands do a pack of each range. I'm actually going to get back to you with a better answer. I think I can find something helpful!
The only thing i'm "meh" about is that most of the brands that sell sampler packs tend to be not the most well known. @@AliceintheRabbitHole I reached out to Cover Fx for finding the right foundation shade and they told me they offer return and exchanges on foundation for first time Cover Fx foundation purchases soooo YAY! :)
Personally, my top two are Ilia Serum foundation and Shiseido Synchro skin. Both of these are not just lovely on dry skin, but also somehow smooth my expression lines. Pricey, but worth it for that effect haha! The drugstore does have some good options as well. PF healthy foundation is an old favorite (which was D/Ced but is supposed to be coming back with an expanded shade range!)
@@AliceintheRabbitHole Thank you so much for the recommendation! I will look into all three! I also tried the rare beauty foundation and was so heartbroken because I had high expectations but it made me skin actually look worse than it is.

@@AliceintheRabbitHole thanks for the reccs, do you possibly remember the exact name of the shisiedo synchro foundation? They have a few diff ones on Sephora
7:23 Your skin looks SOOO GOOD!!!! I ordered the foundation online when it launched. When it gets here I might take it right back to the store and return it without even trying it. I have dry skin, plus I KNOW the shade I got (180W) is gonna be WAYYYY to light. You are right, the shade description is exceptionally confusing and off.
Thank you! I feel like brands occasionally try to make a completely new "system" for foundation (like Uoma's different ranges with the same #s repeated per range). It ultimately ends up confusing though and leads to a lot of returns!
Do you have any tips? Like what primer you're using maybe? I wore it again today with oil mixed in - that worked "mehhhh" for me. I think the best so far was over a ton of oil lol
It worked for me too. I had almost given up on finding my perfect foundation shade until I tried this. The formula also fits my skin, which is normal with dry areas around my eyes and on my forehead.
Nothing but facts in this video I just picked up 170W yesterday and tried it..I love the shade match, wish they did a neutral for pale olive as well (ignore my profile photo that was years ago when I would tan everyday 😂) but with my dry skin it got super patchy/cracked around certain areas and I tried it with the rare primer as well :( it does look okay farther away but not up close. & it didn’t wear for very long..the primer on its own is good. Makes me sad :(
Do you tan easily too?! I swear it's an olive thing. People don't believe me, but I genuinely used to wear Estee Lauder's "wheat" (MEDIUM range) ...now, instead, I wear sunscreen religiously 😂😂
@@AliceintheRabbitHole yep! It definitely is! I’ll never forget going to beach week with my graduating class 10 years ago and they were all very appalled at how quickly I went from pale to darker than our Ethiopian friend 😂 it was the running joke the whole week
Hmm. I’m normal-dry and I don’t seem to have an issue. I even wore it for a 60min hip hop class - outside - and it held up better than I had expected it would! Granted, I’ve only had it for a day and a half so I can’t say that I’ve made up my mind yet. The lip balm I picked up was darker and more purple than I had anticipated, based on the swatches. And yes - the color 170w is fantastic!!!
AliceintheRabbitHole I’m normally dryer than a desert, especially in the colder weather! I had been using the hyaluronic acid serum from Deciem- mixed with my moisturizer - and that seems to be a magic combination for me. Well, it was until I broke the dropper 😂 I’ll see how this goes for the week but man would I love to find other shades similar to this! My favorite default for super long days is the UD. Have you tried the new one from IT? 12w is actually yellow and not orange!
Right this shade is one of the best matches I've ever seen in my entire life! The UD stay naked? Its so funny - I had heard that wasn't for dry skin, but I agree with you completely. It's SO good for long days, and I don't find it uncomfortably dry. I haven't purchased from IT in a while - do you remember the name of the foundation?
So now I think 100w might have been to light. Damn. I thought because it was the lightest warm shade that it was going to match me but maybe not 😅 I may have to return it, hopefully it works out alright!
This was such a thorough review! I appreciate it though because I’m on the fence about if I want to try rare beauty 🤔 also I love that omolewa powder!! So cool to see someone else using it 😆
I hate it how brands say it’s for every skin type. It’s so misleading. Thanks for the shade comparisons. I actually have two of those foundations and the smashbox in the same shade but it’s my summer shade
Funny how I mostly heard comments about the complexion products not working with dry skin/texture well from smaller influencers who bought the products with their own money 😶 am I surprised? No. Is it misleading? Always
I think part of it is the backlash. I actually thought I was pretty kind to the product overall in this video, but I still have had some nasty comments (same thing happened with FentySkin too). Unless you say "gUyS tHiS iS AH-mAzInG oMg LiFe CHANGING", you get some amount of hate. Which is goofy. Nothing is for everyone!!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole so true. If the product isn't praised, then you get comments like "you used it wrong" "you didn't apply it correctly" etc 😬 but yup at the end of the day nothing will suit everybody
I remember when you bought that sweater. Future self past self for me. I wanted one so bad. It was sold out and they said put in your email and we will let you know when it’s back in stock. If I had a dollar every time a company told you to put in your email and we will get back to you when we restock. When in reality they have no intention of ever restocking or letting you know they are never going to restock. My pet peeve to say the least. Anyway this foundation is a hard pass. Thank you.
OMG RIGHT. I swear they know what they're doing - now you're on their email list and they can tempt you with new stuff without ever coming back to the original product that had your interest. Rude, rude I say!!
Huh 🤔. I saw 2 reviews before yours. One person had dry skin (Kathleenlights) and to me, it made her skin *look* shiny. Like the kind of shine after you’ve been sweating, which was odd. She wasn’t as blatant about it, but didn’t seem to like it. The other reviewer has normal to oily skin and her skin also looked super shiny, but she also didn’t like how it sat on her skin or wore. Product managers and marketing teams should listen to these reviews! Hopefully they’ll make a CoRrEcTiOn on the intended skin type and usage. The shade match looked great on you though. 🥳 The packaging looks too similar to Fenty IMO. TFS 🙏🏽💟☮️☯️⚛️
Did they use the primer? If so, I can believe it left a shine behind. The foundation is definitely more light in coverage IMO, and an illuminating primer under it would almost certainly show through!
AliceintheRabbitHole Ah yes, that’s exactly it! I totally forgot the shine effect started right after they applied the primer. GlamGirlChelsea is the other reviewer who typically has “healthy looking” shiny skin but with the primer, it stepped into sweaty looking. 🤭 She wrote in the Description box that with a different primer and less foundation, it looked and wore much better. Thanks Alice 😄
I got the blush and said it was awful, got so many hate comments lol i guess younger people see her like they see Rihanna. By the time i got it, i had seen the reviews about the pigment....but i had no idea just how pigmented a liquid blush could be. I put the teensiest, just the very tip of the dough foot applicator on the back of my hand....and it spread side to side, knuckle to wrist. I barely tapped my brush onto my hand and I still looked like a clown. Unless i mix it with a serum, i cannot apply it in a subtle way. Idk, i feel like Sam and Kristi's reviews kinda reflect Selena's lack of experience in her target audience. The blush isn't dewy, its natural at best. The other complexion products, im just like.....who is this really for? I dont want a primer to be metallic, i dont want the blotting powder to have shimmer in it, and the point of Gen Z is light coverage.
@@AliceintheRabbitHole right lol i hope she considers reformulating because i really like the message behind the brand. I'd like to see it not end up on the sale page as another failed celeb one
$30 is a good price for a *nice* foundation at Sephora....not for a mediocre one that doesn't work with dry skin and has these color issues. I'm thinking there are probably some drugstore foundations that would wear better. Sorry about the disappointing results with this one.
Absolutely!! The Physicians Formula healthy foundation immediately comes to mind - that's a great formula (although not great shade range). Actually now that I say that, that does almost seem to be the biggest difference between drugstore/high end - more thought and effort into the range itself.
Well hell. I am a pass. I don't love the coverage claims. I prefer medium to full coverage. They should definitely say it is for oily skin. Love the bug 😁. Have a great week..❌✖❌
Weren't they so cute haha! We've had a ton of ladybugs lately too - I just love watching them 😍 But yeah, quite disappointing that Rare doesn't describe their foundation better!
Greed and lazy corporate marketing. All products sold as "for all skin types" only work best for ONE skintype. Dry skin has completely opposite needs of oily or "combo" skin. This has always worked my last gay nerve. Also Olive/Warm seems really odd to me, as Olive (green) is a very cool color/skintone. If there is any warmth in your skintone then you are not Olive, you are Yellow/Sallow. Who formulates these colors? You can color me annoyed...
I'll never understand it - no wonder people find themselves feeling bewildered when shopping for makeup. Meanwhile...in my perfect world...brands would say "this product is for oily skin as it controls oils, probably not for dry skin!" (and vice versa) making it EASY to shop for makeup. I kind of feel that color analysis hasn't quite figured out what to do with olives. I see the confusion as my skin contains "spring green" (according to that color grabbing app lol) but also GRAY. Neutral should be a mix of warm and cool, but it focuses on red vs blue instead of...yellow/green vs gray lol
@@AliceintheRabbitHole duuuude I'm SO impressed! You understand color theory! If we can get it, why can't big shots at cosmetics companies get it? It's not Nuclear Physics! As always, thanks for doing what you do.
@@britnysnyder4991 I believe you. But I've taught Cosmetology for years, and I swear this is how it works. Cool skin undertones: Blue (generally Celtic people or some very dark African heritage people). Olive/Green (generally people of Mediterranean heritage like Greek or French). Neutral: A mix of equal parts warm and cool tones (many Middle Eastern people). Warm skintone: Yellow (the majority of people. Asians, Latin Americans, the list goes on. Red (many American Indian people, some Pacific Islanders). Yellow/Red (various ethnicities). And Gold (just a strong Yellow tone). Pink/Ruddy mostly people of Northern European ethnicities with cool skintones and can be caused by extreme heat or cold. That's it, it's pretty simple.

Ooooh a "good" Goodwill is amazing!! I used to live in a pricier part of Florida, and wow we had some amazing clothes come into that goodwill! Haha no offense taken 😂 I absolutely LOVE Snapscara for day to day wear. It's not a super high impact look, but it's not clumpy, no issues with flaking, and a huge benefit for me personally - it comes off easily. I love a high impact mascara for bold looks and I expect to scrub at my lashes to remove those. But I'd rather not scrub them so hard on a daily basis - seems to correlate with damaging my lashes over time, at least for me personally. Snapscara is so perfect for looking more awake and helps me maintain the health of my lashes!
I bought this foundation like 3 weeks ago because I saw a lot of good reviews… I’m so disappointed I have combo skin but with extremely dry patches and for my And precisely my tone is 170W 🥹 For the most oily part of my face it looks good (however nothing surprising) but on one side of the fins of my nose where my dry patch is it looked so bad, cracked. I'm a makeup artist so I know a couple of tricks for situations like this but I still didn't manage to make it look good until I combine it with another foundation that is right for dry skin. The thing is that the this foundation cost me about $5, it's very cheap and the truth is good... But to think that I have to combine a $29-30 foundation with a $5 foundation to make it work... honestly it's a total nonsense. There are much cheaper and better bases for dry skin or with patches as is my case.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Yeah I regret that I kept it as I thought I too would “make it work” - but it’s just not the best foundation out there ☹️

(I need to do more research, to see if that’s the case here.)
That's very true!
Christian Dominique took her foundation off completely after a few minutes she hated how it took to her dry skin and texture
Ah I'm not alone! Yeah, it was actually very, very uncomfortable - I'm normally not a quitter, but the sensation was ROUGH.
AliceintheRabbitHole I thrilled when I see reviews like yours because then I know what Not to buy!
I’m usually Fair - Light in most foundations and I can’t seem to figure out which shade I am in this line. I was going to go for 170W or 190W although the latter one is Light Medium..it still looks light though!
What other foundations do you wear
170w is olive tone and 190w golden tone maybe you are a warm peach tone
I LOVED it on you!! Subscribed!! ❤💋😘💄
Thank you! 🥰
Dang, anytime I see light olive shades I get excited, but I'm a sensitive/dry girl. Someone else said the concealer is 10x better than the foundation. Finger crossed!
Oh interesting...the concealer wasn't even on my radar, but that's good to know!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole ya, I'm excited to hear it. Light olive concealer are even more rare than foundations.
AliceintheRabbitHole Lol yea that’s exactly how I am with fashion and makeup and thank you
Any tips on how to buy foundation online? I don't really use foundation so not sure which shade would be good for me, and with the quarantine it's not really possible to go try samples at a Sephora store. I know if you have a foundation, you can match the shade to other brands, but how to pick your first foundation?
Ooh that's a good question. You're right that most foundation finders rely on you knowing other shade matches.
Hmm maybe your best bet is starting with a sampler? I know some brands do a pack of each range.
I'm actually going to get back to you with a better answer. I think I can find something helpful!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole Awesome! Thank you, I'll be waiting while searching for some sample packs of generous brands :)
The only thing i'm "meh" about is that most of the brands that sell sampler packs tend to be not the most well known. Not necessarily bad (and supporting small business rocks!) but it does mean it wouldn't help with Findation type of websites
The Lip Bar (3 samples for $2.99 shipping) - thelipbar.com/collections/skin-serum-foundation-samples/Foundation
Jouer (this is occasionally free but it might be free only with a purchase right now) - www.jouercosmetics.com/collections/essential-high-coverage-creme-foundation-sample-packets
Pur Love Your Selfie (3 for $15) - www.purcosmetics.com/4-in-1-love-your-selfie-longwear-foundation-concealer-mini
THIS IS WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR: Camera Ready Cosmetics does sample sizes for $5. Includes some of the more popular (pro) brands - camerareadycosmetics.com/collections/professional-foundation
@@AliceintheRabbitHole Hey this is all extremely helpful! After I figure out my shade and favorite brand of foundation, next I'll re-watch all of your content and take notes of your favorite eye palettes :) I'll get there soon
@@AliceintheRabbitHole I reached out to Cover Fx for finding the right foundation shade and they told me they offer return and exchanges on foundation for first time Cover Fx foundation purchases soooo YAY! :)
The highlight of this video was the orange headband with rabbit ears!!
BTW-Is your name really Alice?? 😍
It is 😁
AliceintheRabbitHole Alice and Celia have the same letters!
@@celiareed1402 oh whoa we're anagrams!
AliceintheRabbitHole Best news all day!! ❤️
What is your favorite foundation for dry skin? I'm having so much trouble trying everything and failing.
I feel you. I wanted this to work SO badly (one of the best shade matches of all time!) Even when I can get it to work, it's still a lot of effort 🥺
@@AliceintheRabbitHole Yes! I finally got it to work on my cheeks yesterday but it will not stick to my nose and it makes my forehead so dry that it's more flaky than usual!
I have dry skin and it worked for me 🤷🏼♀️
Do you have any tips? Like what primer you're using maybe?
I wore it again today with oil mixed in - that worked "mehhhh" for me. I think the best so far was over a ton of oil lol
It worked for me too. I had almost given up on finding my perfect foundation shade until I tried this. The formula also fits my skin, which is normal with dry areas around my eyes and on my forehead.
Not the point of the video, but I love your shirt/bathing suit hybrid thing. The cherries print is adorable!
Thank you! Still going strong after...5, 6 years? Gotta appreciate clothing that lasts haha!
🍒adorable...
Future Alice 👋
Good to know - I'm definitely dry-dry haha! 😂
Damn. I thought because it was the lightest warm shade that it was going to match me but maybe not 😅
I may have to return it, hopefully it works out alright!
I cannot believe how light her range goes, but it's quite nice to see! I gotta applaud a wonderful shade range 👏👏
This was such a thorough review! I appreciate it though because I’m on the fence about if I want to try rare beauty 🤔 also I love that omolewa powder!! So cool to see someone else using it 😆
I think it might be the most finely milled powder I've ever encountered! Super underrated
I hate it how brands say it’s for every skin type. It’s so misleading. Thanks for the shade comparisons. I actually have two of those foundations and the smashbox in the same shade but it’s my summer shade
It is. It makes finding the right product for your skin type unnecessarily complicated!!
Thanks for this review! My skin is oily so I might actually like this, but it’s also light coverage so eh maybe not
"I can't afford to have beauty and clothes as a hobby" 😂🤣 ....same
Funny how I mostly heard comments about the complexion products not working with dry skin/texture well from smaller influencers who bought the products with their own money 😶 am I surprised?
The blush is probably the most pigmented I've EVER seen. I got the sample with my order and I think that teensy tiny sample will last me forever LOL!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole right lol i hope she considers reformulating because i really like the message behind the brand. I'd like to see it not end up on the sale page as another failed celeb one
crappy foundation aside, you look GORGEOUS!
Thank you ☺️
$30 is a good price for a *nice* foundation at Sephora....not for a mediocre one that doesn't work with dry skin and has these color issues.
My oily skin thanks you for your suffering 🥰🥰
Great video!
Well hell. I am a pass. I don't love the coverage claims. I prefer medium to full coverage. They should definitely say it is for oily skin. Love the bug 😁. Have a great week..❌✖❌
Weren't they so cute haha! We've had a ton of ladybugs lately too - I just love watching them 😍
But yeah, quite disappointing that Rare doesn't describe their foundation better!
Girl the foundation says is mainly for combo skin n oily skin
OMG you're right! Wow, they changed it. Good call tbh
Omg love❤️❤️❤️ I just did a rare beauty review on my channel too❤️❤️❤️
Oh rad!
Im considered olive undertone and everything i have ever seen online says its a warm undertone.
Ken Dalson I’m a cool-toned Anglo-Saxon type, but I usually gravitate to neutral foundations because I already have enough pink, I don’t need more from my foundation.
Nice Idiocracy reference.
Social distancing helps to save bad foundation....
Past Alice.... This beech agrees. Beauty makes us poor..thank god the goodwill in the rich area here in canada is sweet...but before beauty and clothes my first single mama responsibilty is the three teenagers & their clothes/beauty/anime crap etc but thats okay....we steal each others clothes. As someone with an autoimmune issue I was excited about the easy open but all the fair people who've worn that foundation look like they put dollar tree foundation on (sorry no offence DT)
PS How is the snapscara? I wear a mask 6 hours a day sometimes so need something non racoon and flake.TY!!!!!
Ooooh a "good" Goodwill is amazing!! I used to live in a pricier part of Florida, and wow we had some amazing clothes come into that goodwill! Haha no offense taken 😂
I absolutely LOVE Snapscara for day to day wear.
Hi...❌✖❌
I bought this foundation like 3 weeks ago because I saw a lot of good reviews… I’m so disappointed
I have combo skin but with extremely dry patches and for my And precisely my tone is 170W 🥹 For the most oily part of my face it looks good (however nothing surprising) but on one side of the fins of my nose where my dry patch is it looked so bad, cracked.
