Not a huge fan of Periphery but this is by far one of the best rig rundowns I've seen PG do, presenter is great and all the band members are interesting friendly and knowledgable. Didn't know Nolly was a fellow Brit!
Goddamn, I am obsessed with click tracks and IEMs. I hate that Jake seems almost embarrassed, like as though he feels the need to justify their use of the Macbook to the internet. During teardown/loadout at the rehearsal space, I've had old-timers coming into the room make fun of me for using a laptop, saying "it's not cool" or "it's not rock and roll" but what are we going to do, get a keyboard player just to hang around and press one or two notes for one or two parts of each song? It's an invaluable tool for ambience and tightness and when not just the drummer, but the entire band has IEMs, it's a total game changer--and you can mystify everyone by starting songs without a count in.
This is a seriously cool setup, no wonder they're tight playing to a click, love the midi setup changing the sound up... so cool and shows the amount of work these guys put into their shows
No, the fanned fretboard was NOT designed because "our hands are naturally fan-shaped", it's because of intonation. "provides to each string its natural scale length, to achieve a better intonation on the whole string set."
I think these guys are truly at the right place. They keep their stuff straight, methodical, and WORKING, and give the best of themselve to build something outstanding. Admit it...you'd all have those damn axe fx's in your rig if you could...
periphery really knows their shit. like other bands expect their sound to be provided for them by others but they really take ownership of their presentation which i really admire.
Agree with you, their are professionals in all the way..seems like knowing your entire rig and instruments, got you absolute control on make whatever you want. And all the stuff is in your hand.
No doubt! I enjoy the italian ancestries penchant for beard growing! Really as far as family goes, he is so close in the circle and so collaborative with his uncle, that he is as good as blood as far as I'm concerned anyway.
Number one: awesome when the members not only do the interviews themselves, but also know what they are talking about. 2: they switched a shoe each lol
I'm pretty sure the fanned fret design is an ergonomic decision, but not for the reason the interviewer said. The pattern of the frets is that way because of the change in scale length across the strings, and the change in scale length is so you can have a more even string tension across all of the strings. Making it feel more consistent when you play.
Just geeked out for a good 30 minutes thanks for the video... you should rig rundown Slipknot next. They'll be on tour very soon and both guitarist know their shit on there gear thankfully .
Interesting rundown. I saw these guys play on the Prog Cruise this year and they were really really tight. I didn't know anything about them at that point but I came away pretty impressed with them.
Very interesting Rig Rundown... I would have liked to have seen a bit more info about the use of Protools and the X32 Behringer, the Midi changes and what other gear is used Live. I too geeked out!
Not a fan of Periphery's music but they all seem like humble, knowledgable dudes who are enthusiastic to talk about their gear and their music. Also Misha owns some sexy, sexy axes.
Is it just me, or does Nolly sound much less "British" than he used to? He seemed to have a lot more of an accent back when he was with Red Seas Fire, for instance, but I wonder if being in America with Periphery all this time now has started to flatten out his accent and make it a little less pronounced?
+Mike Scanlan Yep totally agree; I was born and raised in Canada but I've been living in Australia for 10 years now and my accent is pretty much fully aussie aha
These guys had technical problems (with the mac I think) when they were in Finland with Dream Theater back in 2012 haha. Still breaks my heart cause they couldn't play the full set :'(
24:23 I always hear this and I don't agree with the sentiment that fan frets are ergonomic because our hands are fan shaped. That only makes sense if your hand is as wide as the length of a guitar neck. Spread your fingers anywhere around the neck except between maybe the 10th and 14th frets, and there will be no parallels with your fingers to the frets.
Id really love to see a Rig Rundown on 30 Seconds to Mars. But, Im not sure PG is reading these comments, so I'll leave a few crumbs around, to see if they pick up on it?!
No matter how many great guitarists i see that try independent custom built guitars with everything the guitarist asked for, they always go back to the big brands i.e. jackson, ibanez, fender, esp etc. it's quite odd. and FYI Misha 'Netherlandian' people are called Dutch ;)
Maybe they go to "the big brands" because the big brands have a lot of money to spend in marketing and the independent ones don't? They're sure very good guitars but they're not doing it for the quality man.
I think they probably leave the custom guitars at home for studio use and get a couple of "mass produced" axes for touring etc. That's what I think anyway
A lot of the guys i talk to go the the "big brand" guys because when ever they cant bring their guitar or amp or what have you with them and have to get a backline, your more obscure and homebrew companies arent going to have stock in rental companies warehouses they can get exactly what they use out of these places. The companies themselves also have international warehouses if stock to send out for the bigger bands to pick up at. and for those oh shit moments you can also generally go to a chain and pick up a close enough if something ever went down night of, likes someone steals your entire trailer while your eating lunch and now you have to find gear. there are so many things at play just from the road side why guys chose these bigger companies.
TrashMojo That's not a valid point in this case. If their gear is stolen they're pretty much fucked, not easy to find 4 axe fx (plus the patches), zilla cabs, a dinwall bass... etc
I find it kinda funny that they mentioned Misha's nickname but not Nolly's... For a second, I was scratching my head wondering who the hell "Adam" was.
Misha talked about his guitar as if he was in an infomercial haha.
"With just 70 easy payments of $50, this guitar could be YOURS!"
Who the first guy? I didnt get that vibe
@@tysonrinker5958 the 1st guy was Jake Bowen
It's like Misha's trying to sell us his rig lmao love it
... wearing two different shoes 👟
7 years later, his gear is going up for sale on Reverb lmao
@@stringbreaker87 his prices are ridiculous.
Nolly's 6 string bass is the 8th wonder of the world
Спасибо 🎸👍

Agree it look so silky 😩
Not a huge fan of Periphery but this is by far one of the best rig rundowns I've seen PG do, presenter is great and all the band members are interesting friendly and knowledgable. Didn't know Nolly was a fellow Brit!
Misha's shoes... switched with interviewers shoes also compliment their shirt colors.
yeah just noticed that too why do they have each others shoes lol
I love that Steve knows the band well enough to make some personal jokes like the candy crush thing with Mark. Awesome rundown!
Misha has obviously talked about his sig like a bagillion times.
Very articulate young men. Enjoyed hearing how thoughtful they are about their sounds and how they sit in the mix.
Marks shirt says Bob Marley with a picture of Jimi Hendrix... lol
mark likes those shirts he's got one with the ramones logo that says ''ramens''

@Christopher Har V i'm still new to this click tracks. how does it work? who is the main person who triggers the clicks that start the song?
@@bryanMangabang the drummer.
"We've seen a lot of guys with massive racks" 😉 haha.
+Sawyer Smoak Girls*** ahhaha
yeah and jake cracks a tiny smile xD
Sawyer Smoak yeah, I saw some of those in Las Vegas when I walked into the WRONG bar... LOL ;0)
This is a seriously cool setup, no wonder they're tight playing to a click, love the midi setup changing the sound up... so cool and shows the amount of work these guys put into their shows

bingo
battyroy666 that's also to maintain tension
They do such a great job with these rig rundowns. Excellent host!
I love the labels on the Axe FXs, At 19:27 ,all I see is "NOLLYNOLLYNOLLY"
I want Mark to read audiobooks, his voice is so chill and calming
He's done voice over work for video games!
14:51 Thought he was gonna say On this Bitch! lmao
lmao
I heard that as well, that would've been so funny
Each guitarist has their own signature guitar and pickups, each from different brands...
I think these guys are truly at the right place. They keep their stuff straight, methodical, and WORKING, and give the best of themselve to build something outstanding. Admit it...you'd all have those damn axe fx's in your rig if you could...
Just realised that Misha and the interviewer are wearing one of each other's shoes ._.
Is Mark Holcomb wearing a Jimi Hendrix T-shirt that says Bob Marley?
Jared Roth it's a meme. some idiot had this abomination tattoed and posted it on the internet
mark likes those shirts he's got one with the ramones logo that says ''ramens''
liked misha already before watching this video. now I like him even more. He's such a nice and humble guy. well they all seem really nice and humble.
periphery really knows their shit. like other bands expect their sound to be provided for them by others but they really take ownership of their presentation which i really admire.
Agree with you, their are professionals in all the way..seems like knowing your entire rig and instruments, got you absolute control on make whatever you want. And all the stuff is in your hand.
I wish they would have shown their in-ear and mixer gear rack.
Misha shared one of his shoes with the interviewer LMAO
LOL
"Dude..those shoes are awesome! Can I wear one?"
is that a jewish thing or something
Jake is looking more and more like his uncle.
I think that if he grows his beard out long enough he could totally pass for Jim Root XD
Hate to be a buzzkill, but Jake is only related through Petrucci's wife. He is Rena's nephew I think? Not blood but definitely a close tie.
Didnt know that. Thanks, but he surely does start looking like Petrucci if he grows a thick black beard.
No doubt! I enjoy the italian ancestries penchant for beard growing! Really as far as family goes, he is so close in the circle and so collaborative with his uncle, that he is as good as blood as far as I'm concerned anyway.
SixStringsOfWonder is he john petrucci's nephew
love their approach embracing technology with their setup
It was fun watching the video, thanks!
i was waiting for the interviewer to say "and now its time to decide. deal? .. or no deal?"
g0atBallz420 Seemed a little assertive of an interviewer to me too lol.
Nick The Stoic
lol i meant he looks like the guy from deal or no deal
I mean i got that too, i thought you also hinting at the same thing i was picking up.
Nick The Stoic
no yea this guys kind of a dick
I'm not gonna call him that, xD But shoot he wouldn't sit in my circle.

Idk their names, but:
Ibanez guitars, SD Blackouts(active alnico), Rivera Knuckleheads.
Fender guitars, EMG 81/60's, Orange Rockerverbs
yeah what about the pedal set up? ANd where are their amps located ? or are they running direct into PA?
There's a UA-cam video for their detailed rig rundowns, that's the only reason I know. Hit that search bar! Haha
yeah I've seen those I just love rig tech yano. I like seeing alot of bands set ups.
They have a slipknot video from about 7 months ago
Cant wait to catch you guys on tour!!!!!
Why is Satriani not wearing Sunglasses anymore?
What a lovely bunch of lads!
I miss the good ol days. Guitar. Cable. Tube Amp. Analog Pedal. Player. Crowd.
Love Mark Holcomb's shirt. I have a very similar one!
This is the best rig rundown by far
misha moved on to MYTHRIL guitars. legendary weapons unlocked.
Lmao Misha is a goofball yo, I'd die laughing chilling with that dude. Nolly sounds like a great philosopher, perfect voice-over actor voice :D.
Interesting rundown. I saw these guys play on the Prog Cruise this year and they were really really tight. I didn't know anything about them at that point but I came away pretty impressed with them.
PRS - make a production model of Mark's black burst guitar! That thing is sexy.
They're all very intellectual when it comes to their OWN gear. Respect
Lots of attention to detail, love it
"I get one snare hit"
Love this Jake Bowen signature Ibanez, pickups sound huge for Metal, prog.
Very interesting Rig Rundown... I would have liked to have seen a bit more info about the use of Protools and the X32 Behringer, the Midi changes and what other gear is used Live. I too geeked out!
I was at the Knoxville show. Shout out to the crowd for jamming to system of a down while waiting to get our faces shredded off.
Misha makes me feel like I'm watching an infomercial
These are the coolest guys I think I have ever seen. They ALWAYS interact with fans and people and don't seem to be dicks lol super genuine
Good strong interviewer! He can joke with the guys and not make it awkward.
Not a fan of Periphery's music but they all seem like humble, knowledgable dudes who are enthusiastic to talk about their gear and their music. Also Misha owns some sexy, sexy axes.
I feel like a lot of guitar brands are throwing around signature models with custom designed pickups.
Mark's t-shirt is awesome
Lol first I was like "Cool he's got a hendrix tshirt, classic, awesome taste!" then I looked at the name and I was like "trolled" lol
Lol it´s hilarious!.. We should do one with Tosin Abasi on and have Jimi Hendrix written above.
Or a picture of Misha with Tosin Abasi written above
Another great video from Premier Guitar. Gotta love it.
#premier
Love these guys!!!
Great interview!
FINALLY! My favourite band
This man asked all the right questions n shit goddamn solid ass vid
This rig rundown is fantastic. Id love to see Rundowns on Radiohead, 30 Seconds to Mars, Orgy and Julien K! PG does amazing work!!!
Please do architects!! They’re doing a US tour February-March so that’s plenty of time to contact them for a shoot! They are straight riffers
It was the same rig tour in three different colors told by three different people.
they got different guitars tho lol
Their guitars were vastly different.
I like how the bass player is the coolest guy in the band.
YEEEES IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
Is it just me, or does Nolly sound much less "British" than he used to? He seemed to have a lot more of an accent back when he was with Red Seas Fire, for instance, but I wonder if being in America with Periphery all this time now has started to flatten out his accent and make it a little less pronounced?
It happens all the time. Accents come from mimicking others around you. A lot of people tend to lose theirs when moving to do different countries.
+Mike Scanlan Yep totally agree; I was born and raised in Canada but I've been living in Australia for 10 years now and my accent is pretty much fully aussie aha
Threads HAHAHAHA love it!!
Jeff Corcoran Haha perthie signing in here ^_^
Jeff Corcoran damn you're far haha
Thats how you identify yourself man ;)
Excellent, excellent
These guys had technical problems (with the mac I think) when they were in Finland with Dream Theater back in 2012 haha. Still breaks my heart cause they couldn't play the full set :'(
We have hipshot locking tuners on this .... (bitch)... bad boy...
Oh, nolly is from the UK?
9 years later I’m still curious about Mark’s unreleased dimarzio pickups
Peavey 6160 LOL! AXE-FX is messing all players heads with all the renaming thing, people can't remember the real amps names anymore heheh
YEEEY NETHERLANDIANS!!! I'm honored Misha:P
Peavey 6160 eh? Anyone know where I can get one of them? ;)
haha
"Peavee 61-60 New ultra toob ammpifier!"
last time I checked, they only had Mama Boobie Hundredfold Rectifiers
JgHaverty they meant to say 5150
wow, you dont say....
Blond Panda most underrated comment ever.
Periphery's got ibanez and Jackson and bareknuckles and dimarzios at the same time....dope
does the interviewer and misha have the same mismatched shoes on or am i finally going insane?
nevermind.....phew....dont give him back the shoe misha
Just gimme all of Nolly's gear, basses, cabinets, all of it
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jake Bowen's signature is the perfect combination of a RGA and RGD.
Nolly's real last name is Getgood... What I've been telling my bassist for years.
That PRS... WANT
Nollz smiles make me happy.
lol just realized marks shirt said "bob marley" with a picture of hendrix xD
Did I hear right? They're tuning to C# with an 8-string? The hell?!
That caught my attention too, gonna sound ridiculously low
BaSs4cE11 Yeah,it's basically like using a 9-string...I'm damn curious now!
MrFinGuitar Not sure if Mesuggah is in C# or D# ?
***** Well they tuned their 8-strings down to Bb for Spasm so there's that....
Well yes. haha
I thought Misha was about to ask if we wanted to apply for their 36 month financing
insane madness
Oh, I love Nolly's accent!!
Misha is such a personality. Unscripted genius.
Is it wrong that I thought the most awesome thing about this video was Jake's facial hair configuration?
That first Ibanez is so pretty.
Did anyone notice the shoe swap when he interviewed Misha.
24:23 I always hear this and I don't agree with the sentiment that fan frets are ergonomic because our hands are fan shaped. why is misha wearing two different shoes
He just swapped one with the interviewer. Look at his shoes.
Jonathan Andre At the end of the interview he asks Misha for his shoe back. Haha.
I've come back 8 years later to realize Misha is wearing different shoes on each foot
Can you guys please do an After The Burial rig rundown?
Gotta love Mark's shirt.
Id really love to see a Rig Rundown on 30 Seconds to Mars. But, Im not sure PG is reading these comments, so I'll leave a few crumbs around, to see if they pick up on it?!

Misha and Steve have switched one of their shoes, check at 16:52 for example!
