The ACL vessels are regular visits to my workplace which is the Port of Liverpool in the UK, great to see them at the other end, great work as ever Will 👍

I am nothing short of jealous of what you get to do as a career. I am totally intrigued by the tug life.

Brian is the name of the tug. It’s named the Capt. Brian McCallister I think. Must be named for a deceased captain who used to run the boat. The other tugs are the Ellen, the Patrice, the Grace and the Timothy. Why they’re named after people, I don’t know.

Any advice for someone looking to get into the industry/wheelhouse? 14 years as a locomotive engineer on the railroad, looking to get out in the next 5 years. I’m 34. 🫡
Locomotive engineer! Hell yeah! You will probably have to spend at least 2-2 1/2 years on deck to get your sea time to get I to the wheelhouse. Also you are definitely gonna take a little bit of a pay hit going from what you are doing now to the deck. I think what you are doing is pretty cool tho! 🫡

How fast is the boat ? I guess the power weight ratio is insane. I understand it's not built for speed.
Yeah the power is for pushing but the fastest I’ve had her is 15kts

They do. 2 different pilots one gets on offshore then one gets on in the harbor
