      Hi Russell, thank you! Yes, we agree, a lick of paint does make all the difference. It shouldn't be too long before our next vlog. Merry Christmas to you. Best, M&J

    "Freeboard" is the word for the surface of the boat from the waterline to the top o' the gunwale. The narrow horizontal bit where you can walk is often called the "side deck." I think "collar" is a great term for the combination of the vertical and horizontal surfaces of the gunwale. Your boat's looking very nice.

      Hi Hey Teacher, thanks, that's very interesting (I feel a seventies rock song coming on...). I found various nmaes for bits of the boat that were amazing but I didn't find Freeboard, lovely! Best, Martin

      Hi Rusty, thanks for your lovely comment, yes I agree, it would be great to be able to post more often but then you might get bored of us ;) and we wouldn't want that. Best wishes for the season, M&J

    Interesting to see how you’re getting on painting outdoors as when my sailaway eventually arrives I plan to paint all but the final coat or two outside but I have a plan. I have a 3m poly tunnel on my allotment and I’m going to adapt it by chopping off the uprights on one side and then use it to protect the area on the side of the boat I’m working on and then move it along as I go - yes bonkers I know but I know I can’t afford to put the whole thing under cover for weeks so I’ll give it a go, after all the primary purpose for paint is to protect the steelwork and if it looks pretty then that’s a bonus

      I am really enjoying seeing your plans shaping up, Martin; sounds like great plan to me...but then what do I know : ) Best to both of you x

      Not bonkers at all, it's a really good idea and we did think about buying some sort of poly tunnel but it's all down to time and money and being left with something you don't need but if you have it already, well that' makes sense. When are you expecting the sailaway? Best, Martin

      The Narrow Boat To The Deep North - I’ve still got another 12 months to wait, the shell should be built in the summer and the part fit out will take place in the autumn, I’ll get my hands on it in the winter and start the inside work and then the painting will start as soon as the weather improves - a long time to wait but I’ve planned for it

    The boat’s looking great, I love the orange and the white should hopefully keep the boat cool. Our roof is cream and last year when the dark sides were hot the roof was cool to the touch. We had our boat painted earlier this year and we have blacking to the rubbing strake then raddle black from there to the gunwales. The painter advised us to do this so it’s easy to touch up when it gets scraped. A small paint tray and roller and the paintwork along there is like new! I don’t think raddle red is a good match to your beautiful red but I thought I’d mentioned it anyway. Thanks as always for a great video.

      Hi Sylvia, thanks for the info and advice. I'm sure your painter is right, it seems to be what people do and it does make sense, we might, in the next pro. paint job, do that. Best to you and Merry Christmas! M&J

    Are you two still working on briney as not had vlog for ages and I did look forward to them ?

      Hi Howard, 2020 was a rather strange year with lockdownds and Tier restrictions which seriously hampered our ablilty to even get to the boat so we didn't do much filming - mainly working on smaller things that we could do in one or two days when we were able to get. We do have one vlog in the can, but the whole thing needs editing and shaping, something we filmed during the summer during the more relaxed restrictions. It's on my list of things to do but paid work gets in the way :) Thanks for nudging us though and for watching. Best MaArtin

    Guys great videos and started to watch in order. Can I ask how much you pay for the hard standing per month? I’m thinking of doing a long weekend project myself.

    • @TheNarrowBoatToTheDeepNorth
      @TheNarrowBoatToTheDeepNorth  5 років тому

      Hi Jared, we pay £192 for hardstanding (plus electricity) though it depends on the length of the boat. Then there's the addition of craning out/in, this yard does allow you to work on the boat yourself but not all do so check - unless you're thinking of this one :) best, Martin

    there seems something amiss with your vids - some times no enlarge - sometimes no like button - sometimes no comment area - strange never seen before

      Hi Mark, thanks for letting us know but we don't have any control over those items/areas, that's all to do with UA-cam or possible your browser but it does sound a bit odd. Merry Christmas, best, Martin
