Interesting video. School buses are fun to drive which drove from 2007 to 2011 & I recently went back to drive or soon to drive since I need to get my license to drive school bus again. Thank you for sharing!
Congrats on 200 subscribers. Really enjoy your videos. I’ve been fascinated by school buses ever since I was a little kid. Always wanted to drive one. My favorite one I rode as a kid was an old International Loadstar with an automatic. I can still hear that second gear whine...
I used to ride a full-sized Thomas with International numbered 48. Circa 1992 model. I never asked that I recall. It had wheelchair accessibility in the back. It had the jackknife door which was dirt common in West Virginia in that era.
Love watching your videos. And I especially love your 1988 Blue Bird Manual Bus. I had the exact same bus that year, brand new. Except my bus had the air brakes on it. Loved that bus, drove it for 2 years before the school board assigned me a new 1991 Blue Bird 45’ flat nose Pusher, 88 passenger bus.
I love these Chevy Busses. When i was in school I rode on an 80's Chevy Wayne body bus for 2 years...i loved the sound of the engine and auto transmission as it accelerated. Unfortunately the one I was on had engine issues later in tis life and was replaced early.
I remember when i was a kid i always wondered why Blue Bird put an oval mirror on the right and a rectangle one on the passenger. I noticed that in your white bus too!
Chevy-powered busses (like GMC busses) are anything BUT common in either Charles OR Prince George's County - International-powered (followed by Ford) are far more common (I'm referring to (of course) to pre-90s) - Charles uses contractors, but PGCPS owns their busses (and operates them as well). The last bus is an example of the most common bus in the two counties (in terms of both the contractor AND PGCPS county-owned fleet pre-95; what changed was the county's purchasing aim; they moved from Thomas bodies to Blue Bird bodies - but stuck to International engines - which explains the T444E "mini" - it was quite common in PGCPS - but not in terms of Charles County's contractors; they would have had fewer seats and would have had wheelchair equipment. Another arm of the government also bought a lot of T444E frames - the Maryland Department of Transportation's State Highway Administration; their work trucks (that also plow, haul salt and sand (and other road work equipment, and basically do all the "dirty work" when it comes to keeping out highways and byways in order)) - in fact, they still do. Their contractors do, too.
Nice collection! I was wondering if you think a shorty is a good candidate for an rv conversation for two people? My wife and I will retire in a few years and thought it could be a good option. We are also looking into maybe a used rv that may need an upgrade. We are from Fox River Grove Illinois area and also wondering if we should look to warmer dry areas to find something. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
That's the signature sound of a Detroit 4-stroke V8, they made 2-stroke V8s as well, but those were underpowered lumps of steel that couldn't move their own weight without a big turbo
If you can, I would like to talk to you about how to insure buses I buy, without taking the seats out, for the lowest prices, and what those prices are, as well as who you recommend to get the insurance from, as well as other options, such as taking the seats out, because of possible insurance issues, a desire to convert to motorhomes, etc. and how that would affect insurance?
I found a 1993 international 3800 series school bus built by Thomas, I'm not sure what motors in it but it's a 5 speed and 72 passenger. Idk if that's rare or not but I cant seem to find a 3800 with the Thomas body on it only the bluebirds I'm going to be picking it up later this year
One thing really 2 things so well One where did you find these buses and 2 do you have to be a bus driver or own a bus licence to own, buy, and drive a bus?
