I distribute through Tunecore and I have a song that has gotten over 80K video creations on TikTok. Tik Tok pays crap per creation but I was wondering do I have royalties accruing on the 100 Million views the videos have? Would this fall under my PRO (BMI) or SoundExchange perhaps?
Thanks! I’m 70 years old now and I started my copyrights in 1974. It is taken me several weeks to gather and locate all my copyrights and I’m transferring them all into an excel spreadsheet and my surprise. I have over 700 copyrights. I hope I haven’t paid more copyright fees that I received in copyright royalties.

I like to add a reminder to register your music also with the US Copyright Office [I would do that first. It has been stated here on this channel multiple times ] . . and later also make sure that the songs are in Shazam's catalog

Very curious about Song Trust performance/ broadcast royalties for ‘outside’ territories, as I was assuming ASCAP (in my case) was covering international and collecting from those PROs, of course with a time lag. Would I create a problem if I registered with both orgs? I’m so old school lol, really appreciate your advice thanks! Earl

Do songs like "Barbra Streisand" or "Clint Eastwood" have to get permission or pay royalties? What if I want to name my song "Batman", "Starsky & Hutch" or "Bruce Lee"?
Thank you! I don't think I've ever seen a video (or article) which breaks it down so quickly and put into simple terms. It's easy to get in the weeds on any one of these steps, but nice to take a step back and look at it as a whole. Maybe a dumb question, but if I'm BMI, and I'm registering all 200% of the ownership of my song, is there anything I need to do with ASCAP? I thought I heard once that I would need to have PUBLISHING registered with ASCAP-or maybe that was incorrect?
You can only be with one PRO. If you aren't an ASCAP member, there is no reason to join. If you are a publisher, you can have multiple PRO's, but if you are the only one and are a member of BMI, there will again, be nothing to pay you.

I always wondered the same. Songtrust website claims they do this on your behalf and then on MLC website it also claims that if you’re on songtrust they will administer it for you. 🙏🏽

I also wanna share something with you as far as a direct to consumer option if you didn't already know about it.
WRONG! you don't need SONGTRUST to collect international performance royalties. ASCP, BMI in the US, and SOCAN in Canada have reciprocal agreements with most foreign PROs
True. But you DO need Songtrust (or equivalent) to get your international MECHANICAL royalties (unless you yourself want to hunt down the hundreds of foreign MROs and figure out how to register with each one of them independently).

Songtrust will handle MLC for you. It will also handle the publisher share of the PRO for you too.
