Wheels look great. Red & gold is a classic combo. Look forward to seeing it on "our" local roads.😎 On my GTS the Pirelli's @ 3.5mm (7800 miles) were significantly down on corner exit traction, swapped to PS4s, a lot more ultimate grip but those soft sidewalls do dull down the steering feel versus the Pirellis. Perhaps less of an issue on the GT4? Although I got caught in some snow in the Eifel mountains in April and the PS4s were very reassuring. Next up for me is getting the Geo checked. Centre Gravity is the default answer, but we also have Spires in Warwick who have a good reputation and the full Hunter set up. Simple Geo check/adjust is under £200 from them. The new tyres will take a few hundred more miles to quieten down IME. The sharp edges to the tread blocks are responsible, once they've abraided it will help. Happy trip to Italy, I presume! I'm driving a Mini to Brindisi tonight so thank yourself lucky you're in the GT4! Safe travels.
Going from 22s to 23s on an already firm RS6, upsizing wheels is just the dumbest thing. I’d be changing down to 19s as long as they fit over the brakes
Great video again Andy. My personal preference is for the black wheels but really interesting to see the process of buying the wheels and replacing the tyres. We have just had our MX5 wheels refurbished and resprayed in satin black to contrast with the arctic white paintwork. Some colour combinations go well together for example white with black and certainly I can appreciated the red bodywork of the GT4 contrasting nicely with the new gold wheels. It is all about personal preference and taste. Life would be boring if we all liked the same things and drove the same coloured cars 😀
Awesome rims, love the contrast. Hence gold are on my 3. I had 2 sets for rims and tyres both my 4 and my 3. The PS4S are much much better for road driving in the wet and dry, brilliant tyres. For info to all, on my local track the PS4S's were 6seconds slower than Cup2s, which is approx 4%.
Red and gold always remind me of the classic Alan Mann Racing colour-scheme on Escorts and Cortinas and there's nothing wrong with that! A definite upgrade from black in my book.
Could've saved money with just getting wheels refurded gold but it's always handy to have a change of wheels I got spare set of golf wheels to run around on my S1 til I get my wheels a refurb
Loving the gold I think black wheels have been a bit over done generally speaking on all cars and you can actually see the design better. My wife has black wheels makes her regular kerbing easy to fix 😂
My (second hand) 718 GTS came with P Zeros and while they were slightly worn when I got the car, they were quite poor in damp Scottish conditions. It's actually in for new tyres today (going for Continental SportContact 7 which got great reviews in the group tests) which aren't N rated, then it's in with Porsche on Friday for a recall, so it'll be interesting see what they say.
If Porsche miss the chance to flog you some new tyres I’ll be amazed. Have you told your insurer or at least asked if it’s ok to not go N rated? In reality it’s not a big issue (N rated Cup 2s are far more lethal) but they may use it as an excuse to not pay out.
I’m biased because I have that combination in my 718 gt4 also 😇 Looks amazing… there’s no better combination!! I also feel black wheels are now more of a choice for black and gray car combination 👍🏻
Slightly softer shoulders on the tyres help both cornering confidence and, especially, comfort. I noticed this on my Kona N when comparing standard fit Pirelli P Zeros with replacement Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres.
Really like those gold wheels. Make the car really pop. Not a lover of black wheels. Had a set of gold/ silver BBS RZ alloys on my black big bumper MK2 Jetta 16V many years ago, really set the car off. They were 15" alloy wheels and in the day they were classed as big wheels. Oh how times have changed
I know the RZ, beautiful wheel, it wasn't just the diameter but they had a nice dish to them in certain sizes which was a lot of the appeals, that seems to have gone from cars now as, bring back the dish I say!
Anything better than black wheels (never been a fan), did you use a wheel protective coating before you put them on (to make them easier to keep clean)
DAMON......that side shot at the start of the video showing your cayman, WHAT AN ABSOLUTE STUNNER 😮😮😮 , you've got a right beaut there mate....as Bernard Matthews used to say BOOTIFUL.
My car was super smooth on it's factory tyres got them changed with the same brand and I can't get the balance right now I'm going to take it to get road force balanced to see if it helps! The porcshe wheels look mint 👌
Tyre reviews very diplomatically called it pretty much a draw with the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport which felt a bit sportier but I don't need a road tyre that works on track with this car so PS4S are perfect.
How long do you go on the Europe trip for. I’m thinking of going at the end of August for a week and it’s going to be a totally off the cuff thing. I’ve not a clue when I’m going to visit, so will be interesting to see your visit.
I’ve done a few European trips: Depending on where you live in the U.K. if you’re doing just a week you’ll need to do 2days/very long 1.5days to get to the French Alps (which should be top of your list 😊). Then work your way home through Switzerland, Austria, Black Forest. Just be careful as Europe is hotter on speeding in some areas than we are: I got a ticket sent home for doing 3mph over the speed limit!
The colour of the wheels look so much better. Black wheels don't sit well on any car to me, i always say they look like wearing a pair of black shiny shoes with a tracksuit, just wrong
I was able to fit 19" tires and wheels in my S4 sedan. Wonder why you couldn't fit that in the wagon. I do think I took them out of the box and had them in the bags so that might have been why
Love the gold wheels in preference to the black, but can I ask why you selected to buy another complete new set of wheels rather than get the black wheels refurbished and finished in gold? Many thanks👍🏼
Sure Barry and thanks. With Porsches originality is important so having the original unrefurbed wheels is critical. Buying another set requires investment but they are in demand on the used market so you get your money back pretty much when you sell and can sell car as 100% original. Also refurbs are ok but even the best like Prestige can’t beat factory finish, same as factory vs Bodyshop on panels. HTH
N rated obviously preferable especially if you have a fussy Porsche warranty and/or potential buyer asking but not essential. I'm currently running a test with identical rear PS4s for the last two years but with one side N rated and the other not. The N rated is wearing alarmingly quicker than the non N rated. I dont track. Occasional spirited driving. I don't want to have a debate about that though, just reporting what I'm experiencing. Cheers!
Interesting, my main reason was to not give insurer an excuse not to pay out. Price difference vs non N rated is minimal anyway. It is all bs as they’ve changed the N rating to NA & NB (cayman/Boxster & 911 respectively) as people are fitting tyres for 911 to 981/718 which makes a mockery. Try and find an NA though
@@volkswizard Hello, 3 months ago I saw an indish red with aurum touches and Found It really nice... Class but sporty at the samedi Time. Other subject about indish red... What do you think about Porsche asking MONEY for It in the New 992.2 ? As long as I Can remember this color was "for free".
Not you as well Damon! It’s allowed to use one, you just can’t hold it. Hence why Uber drivers have them on a holder (that admittedly obscures their view out window😉)
Hate black wheels. Got to say, if I had the money to blow, your car in the same colour and wheels is what I'd buy. I have been looking occasionally at older Caymans..........
Red and gold looks so much better. Black wheels are so boring and done to death. Everyone has black wheels which always spoils them, can't see them from anything more than 4 foot away
AND I've just noticed your FINALLY using a "rode" mic at last, now shouldn't YOU be thanking ME for that continuous recommendation that has improved your channel..... ?????
Ha ha, disappointed Jerry you didn’t notice I had Rode years ago!TBH I used it with a lapel mic. People were moaning about audio quality with those so I bought another and then realised it was the camera at fault. The other mic has its benefits but for clarity (including audio you don’t want to record) the Rode is hard to beat. The material quality is crap considering the price, the on/off button needs a really firm press now and the dead cat falls off too easily.
As long as......your driving does NOT fall below what the police consider to be safe driving, eg, well I'm NOT going to say anything else on here as i like both you and your channel damon.@volkswizard
I realise it's your car, and your choice, but the black wheels when on the cayman, that's one of , if not the BEST looking cars I've seen in many years, yes it's nice with the gold wheels, but the stunning visual impact of those black wheels.....WOW. 😮😮😮😮😮
@@t5jerry I'm fully aware of the risks of filming and driving in all seriousness. Hence why I generally choose quiet roads and a quiet time of day. There was a road near my old work which was in the countryside just outside the urban sprawl of Brum and that was pretty sketchy in anything wide than an Up! GTI due to the number of people over the white on every bloody corner!

The black wheels looked great on the car, the gold wheels even better. They really are a nice wheel design.
Glad you like. Big ups to Porsche for the wheel design because like Prets, they just work (in any colour) which is rare - no diamond cut option too 😎
As a fellow 52yr old I also think they look great! Far better than black!
Going from 22s to 23s on an already firm RS6, upsizing wheels is just the dumbest thing. I’d be changing down to 19s as long as they fit over the brakes

Red and gold always remind me of the classic Alan Mann Racing colour-scheme on Escorts and Cortinas and there's nothing wrong with that! A definite upgrade from black in my book.
I shall look Alan Mann up right now, thanks, glad you approve sir 🙌🏻

I think satin platinum might have been my favourite but tough call.
First world problems as I like both, very hard to choose. Great wheel and tyre combination choice.
Very true re first world problem but that’s UA-cam/social, it’s handy for when you don’t want to consider life’s real problems

Great choice and video Andrew. GT4 looks 👌🏻
Looks great 👍 and new tyres essential if need grip in wet - road trip ahoy 🎯👍🤓
I have a 981 GT4 and have never seen 30mpg. I’m usually in the early 20’s. Just come back from a 1100 mile road trip averaging 25.
Don’t worry I’m on a big trip and in the 20s but later generations are usually a bit better on fuel though 4.0 displacement prob negates most of it

Beautiful car thank you

Thanks so much Ray 💛
great looking wheels 👍👊
Why have I got Dunlop tyres then are they not N rated
They are, both Michelin Cup 2, PS4s and Dunlop Sport Maxx Race 2s can be N rated. I have the maxx race 2s on my GT4
