    Great video, so helpful! Tried this string pattern last night, took a while, but love the finish👍

    Thanks for this. I just bought 2 of these. I’ve strung one in the original pattern and I’m going to do the other in the fan pattern to see which I prefer. Looks awesome with the black Tecnifibre Dynamix VP 👌

      @@stringdoctor6238 Update: fan pattern is a clear winner. So much more control and more than enough power with the VP strings

    Hi Jon, your video is very informative. In fact, I spoke to you at the WIS concerning (a few weeks back) this fan pattern and that I lacked the knowledge to re-string rackets using this method. What would be more helpful, is if could speak louder during the tutorial. You have a quiet voice and my hearing isn't what it used to be lol. Bonkers

    What your opinion of non-square string patterns? Any advantages? I would guess, based on no evidence, that you would get a dynamic tension that varies throughout the head, as the spacing varies, making it hard to be consistent. Good video too. Thanks

    • @stringdoctor6238
      @stringdoctor6238  3 роки тому +1

      Good question Chris. The main advantages are to create easily accessible power, with the sweet spot generally being a bit more spaced out and springier, with control added from stability from the bottom third where the stringbed is tighter knit. I generally string fan patterns a bit lower to compensate. You also find that there’s less string movement as the strings are held in place a bit better. So the pattern in this video will be far better for durability than a more traditional pattern.

    What do you need to do on the first cross, to make sure that you end on a hard weave on the last cross?

    • @stringdoctor6238
      @stringdoctor6238  5 місяців тому

      Hi Antony,
      You can do 2 things.
      I count how many crosses there are and work out where the final cross will sit. I.e. pushing against the mains on the last cross. This will determine if I start the first cross under the first main or over. I also just do a quick 'over, under, over, under' count down the grommets to physical check.

    • @antonyharkin2010
      @antonyharkin2010 5 місяців тому

      So if it finishes going over the last main then you would start the first cross with an over?
      Make sense to me if that's correct?
      Thanks!

    • @stringdoctor6238
      @stringdoctor6238  5 місяців тому +1

      @antonyharkin2010 the last cross at the throat has to be suppressing the mains (so either pushing down or pulling up, as opposed to gliding through without resistance). Depending on how many crosses there are on a racket would determine whether you start under or over the first main. Power rings are the best rackets to trial this with.

    Hey String Doctor, I'd like to ask you about tension for main and cross. When should I reduce for 10% less tension for cross, and when I able to save tension for main and cross equal each other, for example 25/25; 25/22.5. Thanks a lot if you share information.

    • @stringdoctor6238
      @stringdoctor6238  Рік тому

      Hi there, I normally don't raise tension on cross strings unless somebody asks. The strings naturally lose a little bit of tension anyway due to the friction when weaving through the mains. So they kind of even out. I do have a few top pro players who like a difference, but often not.

  • @canadiantennispro

    2 pieces ok i did mine in 1 piece cause mains still finished at the top only problem is i have only 3 doubled up on the throat . should be 4

    • @stringdoctor6238

      It's a funny one because I usually do 1 piece with squash, except for Prince Power Ring (or similar) as it's vital to have them done as a 2 piece otherwise tension creep is awful, plus Prince void warranties, whatever they're worth, if you don't do a two piece! Head rackets are normally in the same bracket as Head like these rackets strung as a two piece. 2 piece works well with fan patterns generally anyway. Easier to do a consistent job, especially with multiple rackets with a 2 piece on these rackets.
      Yeah, keep working on this one and hopefully the vid will help 👍

      @@stringdoctor6238 thanks so much for the quick response ? Is if I do a 2 piece what length of the mains and what length for the X’s especially if measuring from a reel?

    • @stringdoctor6238
      @stringdoctor6238  Рік тому

      @@canadiantennispro if stringing from the reel, best bet is to measure 16 mains lengths (throat to head) for the mains, and do similar for the crosses. Shouldn't take long to do and bit more economical. There'll be enough to tie off at the end as the string will stretch during stringing 👍

    Hello! How come at 15:00 you tie the cross string onto the main rather than the cross? In some of your other videos you tie off the cross onto itself. Is it just down to preference of the stringer or are there distinct cases where one method is preferable to the other?
    I always prefer to have the cross tied off onto itself -- but I've had to be quite specific about this request when having it strung. It became apparent when dabbling with hybrids because a couple of times the less durable string would break at the knot. Maybe this was a case of poor attention to detail by the stringer, a faulty knot or just plain bad luck on my part. Anyway, it happened more than once, but has never happened again after having mains tied off on mains, and cross tied off on cross.

      Hi there, sorry for late reply, only just seen this! To be honest it doesn't matter too much if tying off against a main or a cross, however I always aim to tie off at the shortest distance from the grommet it's been pulled from to help reduce tension. This is the pattern I use to string rackets for a certain Head player that is very high up in the mens world rankings 😉

      @@stringdoctor6238 Thank you so much for the fast reply 😊 Thanks for sharing, and I really appreciate you not sharing the tension when it’s not clarified 🙌 That’s a matter of personal preference anyway, and I suspect I might use a lower tension myself to gain a bit more power. I often like around 22 lbs myself, will probable try that here too depending on the string. Considering either Dynamix VP 1.15 for fan pattern and 1.20 for squared pattern, or maybe Karakal Hot Zone 17. Saw your advice on elastic strings such as the Hot Zone, so might up it to 24 for that string. Fun to experiment a bit 🥳
