    I thought Astbury was a god: the hair, the ribbons, the sweatbands, the chicken dance and the Death Cult EP. A magic time of youth

      The chicken dance, is that what you called it. i always thought he was just trying to emulate Indigenous North American dances.

    Even then, you could tell that Billy's influences were split between punk, what was going on at the time, and his earlier love of blues and rock bands like Free. As much as I love many other bands from the time, Billy's guitar just shone so brightly. Let's not leave Jamie out, though; such a fantastic bass player.

    • @jamesfisher661
      @jamesfisher661 2 роки тому +1

      Well the guitar part was written by Buzz Burrows, not Billy, but I get what you're saying

    • @Joeskint
      @Joeskint 2 роки тому +2

      @@jamesfisher661 Billy does a cracking job, but then again he was several streets ahead of Buzz at the time and has only got better - that's not to criticise Buzz because he originated the eighties goth sound because I'd heard nobody play that was until I saw SDC on The Tube

    When they decide to do a farewell tour, they better damn well play this underrated & sadly overlooked song as an encore (as they do here!). Remember, this is originally a Southern Death Cult song but The Cult version R😎CKS BALLS OUT! 👊😎🎸

    I agree with you. The Cult lost an integral part of their sound when they booted Nigel Preston and tried to replace the beat with Matt Sorum, who is more of a good timekeeper than a drummer.

    • @christopherwright7541
      @christopherwright7541 4 роки тому +8

      Sorum didn't replace Preston, that came MUCH later. He was replaced by Les Warner even though Big Country's Mark Brzezicki recorded tracks in the studio prior. Drugs are a bad. Nigel was GREAT!

    Best part is when Ian opens the note and gets bubble gum or something all over his hand. The second best part is the exceptional bass playing. It's almost being played like a 6 string guitar. So original and extremely talented.

    • @mattsmith2569
      @mattsmith2569 10 місяців тому

      It was a fans note requesting the band aid off of his right thumb, YUK! He chucks the note down and peels off the band aid and passes it to the fan for a keepsake of Ian. Throughout the rest of the song he licks the blood off his unhealed wound and wipes his thumb down his face. He later picks up and pockets the fans note for his own keepsake. I wonder if he still had that note today, or if the fan still still has the soiled band aid today. YUK!

    And yes, the Canadian VHS contained a CD copy of the audio. The sound on the VHS is pretty poor because it was recorded without a HiFi track. Which is stupid.
    But you could get that CD/VHS set, pull the VHS video and CD audio to a computer, sync up the better-sounding audio to the picture, and then make a DVD of that. Pretty big pain in the arse to properly watch one of the best recoded gigs, ever!
    BTW the vinyl and cassette were each originally sold for $1.99 (abridged concert version.)

    It's not been available for years, I bought mine when the Dreamtime album came out in 1984, but I got the 'Gimmick' clip from the Canadian version that came out in the late 90s, which had the full set on. The original version didn't have that song on it.

      I used to have the Dreamtime Cassette and the CD but foolishly threw the cassette out when i was clearing my parents flat out. If i remember correctly the cassette had the majority of this concert at the Lyceum on the B side. I also had the video of this concert. To this day that concert and W.A.S.P's Live In The Raw (Recorded in 84 at the Lyceum) remain my 2 favourite concert videos.
      These older style venues are much better for sound than modern soulless arena's
