Envy - I’ve seen it and recognized it since I was a little kid. Now I warn my children against victimhood. I’m making them watch this and will discuss it with them. Ignorance breeds envy so I will make sure my children are well informed. Well-informed, free thinking children are what I want to ultimately contribute to this world.
This video is absolutely remarkable! The narration is exquisitely acted, the artistry is fantastic, the dialogue is acutely sharp. Not only did I share this to minds but boosted it to 5k views.
This is well articulated and a powerful, though actually understated, dramatization. The challenge though, is that it focuses on the problem in a seeming effort to produce an inflammatory response in the viewer rather than on educating the viewer. As such, it is also part of the problem. The mistakes made in the narrative of this production include: 1) making people (not just their misguided ideas and the horrific actions that flow from those ideas) wrong, and... 2) not clearly distinguishing between the rare and unrecognized examples of people demonstrating real values and virtues [such as those who honestly and sincerely seek to earn their way in the world by innovating, creating real values that advance what is possible for ALL of humanity, and offering them through voluntary exchange (with a minimum of government lobbying, mostly for defense) like Apple] vs. the ubiquitous examples that posture in the name of "capitalism" [such as businessmen who copy and steal the works of others and seek to use the power of force (by lobbying or staging a coup to benefit their special unearned interests, destroying anyone in their path who doesn't agree with them) like Samsung and Trump and millions of others]. There is a reason that James Taggart is a chief villain in Atlas Shrugged. Without these distinctions, "capitalism" gets a bad name and those who rally against the 1% seem justified. Those who operate by the standard that "he who has the gold makes the rules" and can force "their way" onto everyone else are just as immoral as those who rally for social justice by government force. Both are examples of non-objective law running riot, and the swinging of the pendulum between the two is inevitable. Unfortunately, this video does little to help the viewer understand the real heart of the matter. As it is, it could be classified (not without merit) as being part of the problem, promoting "us vs. them," the blindly blaming, hating and destroying divisiveness and subjectivism of our cultural degeneration, instead of as being part of the solution, inviting the viewer the understand the distinctions, become educated, "convince and persuade," and lovingly aspiring to another, more civilized way based on objective reality... which is what our culture needs so very much right now. THE TRUTH IS that we are in a crisis of the Primacy of Consciousness vs. the Primacy of Existence. Without a clear understanding of this as the basis, any discussion such as this can easily degenerate into an argument of "whose" arbitrary consciousness gets to set the terms. Viewers on both sides of the aisle, who don't already understand that this is the core issue, are left with inflamed, misguided, righteous indignation... and without the power to make a difference. Let's resolve to be part of the solution, to point the way forward in everything we do.
Thank you for articulating the only thing that I could find wrong in not only this video , but in some of the implications of objectivism . You are right , in each and every human there is the capacity for choosing good OR evil . Our choices between these two is ultimately what defines who we CHOOSE to become , not who we ARE . It is my belief that every human being is a blank page that writes it's story by what we choose to do , in other words , becoming . To imply that some people are evil or good by DNA or any other means that is outside of their choice , thus control , is the personification of entitlement , the person who wants to believe such a thing only desires to make themselves feel better than others based on something that they did not have to EARN . Choice of ACTION is the only true definition of self worth . Those of us that understand this must in the interest of self-preservation , teach this to all who will listen . The choice belongs to us .
The reason mathematics isn't as popular as literature is because literature tells stories that ordinary people can understand. Mathematics inherently has to build upon previously acquired knowledge, without which it is largely incomprehensible. I completely agree with the statement that humanity is in a crisis of the Primacy of Consciousness vs. the Primacy of Existence; I believe this conflict flows fairly naturally from the differing cognitive styles of keirsey.com/temperament/rational-overview/ vs keirsey.com/temperament/idealist-overview/ . As individuals, do we assign values based upon what is true, or in what makes people feel good.
Sad but true!! Today society is more focused on support socialism while the society are takin bad decisions in name of "searching a greater good", i missed u so much ayn rand
I finally understand why i Don't like this video, it comes off as kinda hypocritical, it feels like it's made by someone who perceives them as under attack, it feels like it's using the tactics that it critiques in this very video. It makes it feel like the world is being victimized by victimhood. It's all very surreal after I placed that.
I never understood why Rand values pride. I get that it's a foundation of her philosophy and how so much is built off it. I've lived proudly and humbly at different times in life, and I am more at peace, more calm when in humility. That's not to say it's easy in the moment, but later on I see my life was easier. I see a difference of night and day between the two. Am I missing something?
Pride, deserved pride, is really a warm think. It means you have accomplished great things or at least that you have tried to do so, and also you followed the famous "Ne Cede Malis". In Ayn Rand mind, it doesn't mean that you have to feel pride without any reason, quite the contrary.
They most likely real let’s be honest. It’s just easier and cheaper to raise a complainer and a weakling. Not to mention they also multiply exponentially
I don‘t understand that something like free college makes Envy happy? Can someone explain me what giving everyone the same chances has something to do with envy?
It's ironic that "Envy" is depicted as a decrepit, deformed guy wearing a hood meanwhile whomever is drawing, based on her hand and hood, is in an even worse state of decay and illness.
The artist is old, probably beyond the age of 80, most likely in his or her 90s. It is amazing his or hands are as good as a young and he or she is still working despite his or her old age.
Love the Ayn Rand plug, but the sentiment that “kids are reading Karl-Marx” is violating my sense of truth 🤣. That would be impressive, I would say 99% of the adults haven’t read Karl Marx. I have “Capital” on my reading list on audible, and all three parts add up to about 125hours, that’s longer than the NKJB and “The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.” I don’t know where you’re finding these genius kids, with that kind of reading stamina.
@@kylamamber9080 the exact quote is “the kids read Karl Marks, not Ayn Rand.” I’ve got to be honest, I don’t think Ayn Rand would like the presentation, the message, and tone of this video. Ayn Rand was all about “objectivism,” there’s nothing objective in this video. It’s as if “the looters” have adopted her philosophy, and peddling it the only way they can.
I would state than most kids haven't read whole Karl Marx books but all have read long text- of Marx, Engels, etc at School while libertarian, capitalist thinkers are litterally limited to Adam Smith, no one knows why. In France, geography or "social" sciences books from college to university are full of articles from two marxists newspaper : Alternatives Economiques and Le Monde Diplomatique which represent more than 50% of the sources.
Are socialist ideas really to help the poor or just used to gain the power? I have a question for you guys I've had it for many years and maybe you could help me. I'm not a very religious person but Jesus said the poor will be with you always. What did he know. Are they predisposed to be that way I don't know.
I think that was the best video that came out of the Atlas Society ever. Good Job!
Thanks so much for watching, David!
I know, it makes me so jealous that I didn't think of it first.
That's a pretty low bar of standards TBH
This video is brilliant!! Morally and artistically beautiful!
Celestra - thank you so much! Glad that you enjoyed our recent release... stay tuned for more from TAS this year!
A Masterpiece.
Glad you liked it!
I wish every person could watch this video, I’ve showed it to a few of my friends and this is a really powerful message

This Is amazing and so true. I am glad you all took the time to put this together !
Wow! Ojalá estuviera en español. Saludos a todos desde Cuba. Esperando y actuando para que un día la envidia no dirija el país
Hit the nail on the head with this.
Always a pleasure to watch. 100% on the mark.
Great how the power of projection works. Good drawings nonetheless.

All true... sadly...
I don‘t understand that something like free college makes Envy happy? Can someone explain me what giving everyone the same chances has something to do with envy?
Free college means that anyone can go, but because it's free, it would be crappy education. Envy is happy because it would cause problems.
There's nothing for free in this world. When you say you want it to be free, you are saying that you want others to pay for you.
46 Marxists dislike this.

Yeah, you're probably just envious of their drawing skills.
You're an idiot, duh. The artist is disguised as envy. And disguised as Ludwig von Mise on the dedicated video, etc, etc.
envy is the biggest weapon of comies...
The 45 dislikes are from people that all have victimhood mentality complex.
That's it in a nut shell. It's the democratic parties playbook straight from the mind of karl Marx.
Seems like a book commercial.
Is this Frank Miller?
perfect depiction of modern day Democrats. .

I know someone who had a teacher who assigned the class to read Karl Marx. That's still just one teacher though anyway.
