- Bob talks us around his A40 Austin Somerset, this car from 1954 was much improved on the Austin A40 Devon with a much sleeker body, but this is more than just a car for Bob Horne as it also has a spiritual sentiment to the vehicle having been purchased for him by his wife Christine who sadly passed away, so this is more than just a classic Austin A40 #spirituality

Really lovely car I remember and old guy who lived by us in the 1980s having a driveway full of them as a child and the Hereford ones . All now long gone .

Its a real car. In sri lanka we can see some somerset s are running well. My salute to the owner who maintain this car in superb condition. I like this very much.

We've had 3 over 40 years and out last forever keeper has a modern V6 engine, running gear and A/C.

I know of 4 in Victoria BC , Mine was off the road since 1965 and in a Barn , I just put it back on the road this year and she is going great . My Car is name after the woman who had owned it back in the day JD
The "bounce" on the speedo needle is because of a twist in the inner cable. I've had two Somersets (Saloon and Coupe) and a Devon - none had the bounce!

Lovely old car! The whitewall tyres really set it off. When I was about 4 or 5 my dad had a Ford v8 pilot, and that had white walls - how childhood memories come back sometimes!

I love the “top speed of 17 miles an hour” in the captions. (At 17 seconds. Of course the spoken narration says 70 mph. )
There's one of these wrecked down near the creek where I live; i played racing car drivers in it when I was six years old
Thanks a lot for the video Bob and Adam. I'm getting a Somerset soon. I drove it last Saturday and whilst it is safe to drive there's lot's of interesting jobs to do which I look forward to.

@@datbs Will do. It looks like a stock car job by the previous owner. The chrome bumpers are ready to go back on when it becomes my car. I'll get rid of the stickers and hand enamel it back to original. BUT .........I like the idea of light blue over dark.
