Rohto Mentholatum SPF lip products are a long time favorite of mine. Affordable, options without fragrance, different colors, and different flavors. The melty lip balms are to die for. From EU, Hydracolor tinted SPF 25 lip balms are a hidden gem, too.
Yes to the part 2 of Asian beauty lip spf, they are so much better. The rohto melty creams are shiny and agree that they’re light weight/thin, not very long lasting. The best non-AB lip spf is Okeefe’s! It’s long lasting on the lips and I love that it isn’t shiny. No taste!
SO glad to see the Jack Black lip balm getting some love! It’s underrated, and my favorite 😊Personally, I think the shea butter one is the best option for healing and caring for the lips.
The Ultra Violette one is great with no taste. It's got a bit of a tint and comes in a few colours and works like a lip oil almost and with spf 50. Pretty amazing.
I’ve twice purchased Paula’s Choice spf lip balm (the one that looks like chapstick). I have never gotten any yucky flavour from it. And it actually hydrates! I would say that I don’t use it often enough so the spf does expire way before it’s done. But I keep it around because it is comforting.
The Rohto Mentholatum Melty Lip Cream is truly my holy grail sunscreen lip balm! A warning to people trying it - the Matcha flavour is green and can tint your lips faintly green if you put a lot on. However, the other three flavours (as well as the unscented one) have zero colour. Moisturizing, shiny, doesn't taste like sunscreen, delicious smells...highly recommend to everyone!!!
The Revlon Kiss Tinted lip balms are my FAVORITE affordable version and have been for years! Subtle color in berry, cherry and peach shades (berry is my favorite) and coconut for a more clear gloss effect and no offensive bitter taste sneaking up on you like so many.
I tried the blackberry flavor of the Jack Black and it had a very prominent SPF taste, just as a warning to anyone considering that flavor. I’d be interested in trying the mint, even though I’m not really into mint lip products.
The lipbalm with 45 Spf at 9:58 is the Cotz Lip Balm SPF 45! I think she forgot to put the link in the description for this product, I was looking for it for a good while and thought I misheard it 😂
Funnily enough I purchased the Ultra Violette Sheen Screen SPF50 lip balm today after a few weeks of deliberation (I have too many lip products and was undecided on colour till I checked in store) and I am surprised it’s not part of the review because AUS brands are generally great in sunscreen ☺️ Thank you for the Tatcha mention because I loved the same colour in store and it’s even pricier in the UK (£35/$43) but now I am a lot less interested 😅
I love the Nivea one, esp in Bordeaux- it is similar to Clinique black honey in color, which I’m allergic to. Definitely give O’Keefe’s Lip Repair a try! It is SPF 35 and I don’t taste the spf. It isn’t shiny, so my husband loves it, too.
For those in Europe (maybe you can find it on the other side of the pond), I buy Eucerin Lip Active spf15. It is low, but I reapply quite often. No smell (only a slight chapsticky smell), and no taste!
The ISDIN Protector Labial spf 50+ is very good, it's clear, super resistant and doesn't have strange taste. I don't know if you have it in the US, it's a EU brand (from Spain)
I had high hopes for these because they're so cheap but they didn't work for me 😢 I found them too melty on the lips so they didn't last long, and the flavor was way too strong for me. I'm glad they're working for you though! This might help others who are looking into potentially buying these
The Rohto Melty Cream Lip kinda reminds me of the Summer Fridays butter balms in texture. The Nivea ones I find to be a thin balm formula, but the Rohto ones feel more like a thin lip oil. They’ve got that “lip oil plushness” in a way that the Nivea ones don’t. The milk vanilla scent is in my everyday bag. I have many of them
The inglot Lip balm with spf! Is a sleek black chapstick component and It has a beautiful bright pink peach color that Is almost invisible on lips. It Is quite a stoffa formula(less prone to melting maybe? Idk) and is very hydrating and a bit cushy on the lips
Thanks for this video, lip spf doesn't get enough attention, imo! For me the Avéne lip spf 50 in a bullet tube works the best (a lot of other lip spf give me a rash). It goes on clear and I haven't noticed any taste. I don't wear it alone though, but always layer it over a lip balm.
O’Keeffe’s SPF 35 Lip Repair (no tint) is as close to SPF lip perfection as I’ve found. Cheap, nondrying AND moisturizing, accessible and works. Revlon SPF 20 balm in coconut is a close second. I had the same issue with the Tatcha unfortunately.
Great video and totally agree. So many taste awful. Why don’t more brands use physical sunscreen in their lip spf.?Fresh lip balms used to have spf and had no taste and I believe the spf was titanium dioxide and zinc. So sad when they reformulated and no longer have spf. Haven’t bought one since.
Ultra Violette’s reformulated lip SPF is GREAT! I also enjoy Fresh’s lip balms (although the SPF rating is waaay sub-par), and Skin Skills SPF 50 is pretty tasteless, although the finish isn’t my favourite.
the video we didn’t know we needed!! excited to look into these. i have resorted to putting on a lip stain, letting it sit for like 30 min, then wipe off and re-applying a clear spf lip balm (the jack black one) throughout the day. seems to work in the meantime and re-application can be done without a mirror and mess free! plus there are plenty of shades to chose from lol
I've been using the Beauty Pie 30 SPF lip balm for a couple years and it just feels like a regular lip balm. It has no tint though! I often wear it under another tinted balm or lipstick.
I was so excited for this video, thanks for being the guinea pig Amanda! Have you tried any of the Paula's Choice lip SPFs, the Elta MD one, or Blistex 5 star? I've been looking for a good clear one that I can pile on to make sure I'm getting the full protection.
Not Amanda, but I have tried the Paula's Choice lip SPF and the taste is awful - it's fine in terms of sun protection, but the taste is so bad it's hard to want to use it.
I tried the Tacha one also, in the same color. My lips were too dry with it. Loved the color. I returned because it was drying for me. Thanks for the video!❤
As always, great information! Yes, please share the 'rock my world,' palette. Also, I'm sure I'm not the first (or last) to say this, but you are basically Drew Barrymore from back in the day, The beauty, the voice, the smile. XOXO
the new elf sun boss gloss is amazing!!! smells nice and tropical and has NO TASTE since it’s a mineral gloss. great texture, decent shades. I own the shade Blush Much. best lip SPF I’ve tried. i used to use Jack Black and Cay Skin. Jack Black ended up tasting bad after a few months and i remember it smelling weird too. i loved the Cay Skin for some time for its shades, shine, thick enveloping feel on the lips, great scent, and lasting power- despite being a gloss, it stayed on for a while even while drinking. But, it had a strong aftertaste and started smelling weird after a few months.
I was going to do the same because besides the jack black lip balm, i don't like traditional spf lip balms. And the jack black one has low spf so I'm on the lookout for something better. Have you found a stick that you like that lasts on the lips?
The Fresh Sugar lip balm had SPF before it was reformulated a few years ago. The rose shade was the perfect MLBB color. I have been on the hunt for a replacement. I’ve tried Rohto Mentholatum and like it. I want to try Nivea next.
Agreed! I love the Jack Black SPF lip balm. No bad flavor and very nourishing to the lips. Love the Shea butter flavor, grapefruit not bad. Thanks for trying all of these spf lip balms! I'm always searching for a good one.
I really appreciate this video and would love to see more lip spf options! I love the jack black, but was curious about the cay skin. How disappointing that it smells and tastes terrible
Amanda, thank you for your in-depth videos! I have a favourite out of tinted lap balms, it has different nice shades (not pale yellow based as usual), smels and taste sweet and 50 spf : Diego Dalla Palma Protect My Lips Protect Lip Balm SPF50+
great video and yes to more asian beauty videos and yes to eye makeup tutorial! PS thank you for taking feedback from your previous and adjusting wording from Kbeauty to Asian beauty.
Omg the video I’ve needed for years 🙌🏻 so far the only spf lip that has worked for me that I’ve used for years is the Neutrogena spf lip balm! I think you’d love the color Fresh Plum but my other fave is Sunny Berry. The Cay Skin one I got during the Sephora sale and after 1 try new I had to return, the sunscreen taste was awful 😩
I haven’t used those Neutrogena ones in forever and forgot they have spf! I need to revisit! I remember a pretty strong fruity scent, but I liked the scent (very strong, tho)
@@susiedbc I actually don’t notice much of a scent! I find that they’re quite pigmented for a balm and can feel a little tingly on my lips (I assume that’s the spf ingredients maybe?) but that feeling is reduced when I wear it over a sheer layer of clear lip balm. I also love that they’re a flat oval shape, really easy to fit into any pocket or small bag whenever I go out so I’m never without lip spf!
Highly recommend the Ultrasun SPF 50 lip balm. It’s from the EU with new-gen filters and is just a clear stick format lip balm, but very heavy duty protection (it has a little octisalate but zero taste). I buy it from Beauty Bay. Also currently testing one from an Indian brand called WishCare (they have a tinted and untinted SPF 50 lip balm in a stick form too, with all new-gen filters) and an Australian brand called Esmi Skin that makes squeeze tube lip balms in three flavors, and one with a berry tint (mostly new-gen filters plus octocrylene)
Obviously everyone is different, but I hated the Supergoop. I found it so drying on my lips, and the product just kind of sat on top of my lips. Also, I bought three of the shades of the Cay lip balm in the last Sephora sale, and I haven't noticed anything off (but I'm not eating my lip balm).
great video idea! really appreciate your in depth, transparent, and thorough opinions. the link to the eyeshadow palette you were using in this video wasn't working for me! is it the Moonlight Mermaid palette in Celestial Guide from Flower Knows?
I've always used the Bondi Sands Lip Balm SPF50 (clear balm) when putting on my morning sunscreen. It's a squeezy slanted plastic applicator tube. I have toasted coconut & can confirm no taste.
Thanks for this! Review request for the new Armani Designer Glow Foundation and Surratt Dew Drop foundation. Could you recommend dupes for Armani Luminous Silk foundation? I have never made a purchase for a complexion product that was not recommended by you. Letting you know. BTW rumour has it that the A2O lab soft matte foundation is a dupe for the CYO.
Great video, thank you! I'm a long time user of Jack Black and I like it for both treatment and a little sun protection--grapefruit is totally pleasant to use. For strong SPF I really like O'Keefe's. It's a bit thick but tastes decent-- a bit orangey. Now you have me curious, what do you think is the best treatment lip balm? I know everyone loves Laneige lip sleeping mask, but I find if I use it at night I tend to get weird bounce-back chapping (almost like it soaks off the top layer of skin which then hardens. It's pretty strange).
I'm shocked at how many influencers reviewers loved The Cay SPF lip balm. They loved it, were amazed by it and never , never mentioned the bitter taste. It shows how most influencers are fake. And you can't tell me they didn't taste it or get bothered by it. Or at least mention it. But I can't stand the bitter spf lip balms. I do have the tatcha. But it's such a joke how someone can't mention the horrific taste something has when one's job is to review items. And there are a lot of them out there.
Honestly I have the Cay Skin balm in clear and I actually really like it! 🫣 I only really taste the SPF if I have it on while actively eating, but I just wipe it off before doing so. I will admit that I am probably less sensitive to the SPF taste than others but I understand that everyone might have a different experience with it.
Has anyone tried the Elizabeth Arden spf lip balms? I’ve been looking at them and wondering if they were any good. They have some tinted ones too and I was thinking of getting one to try.

I love MD solar science lip balm sof 30. It is luxury lip balm at $25. But worth every penny. The color spice is my favorite.
I love the Neutrogena spf tinted lip balm
The lipbalm with 45 Spf at 9:58 is the Cotz Lip Balm SPF 45!
