Great interview. A lot of the kids he speaks of have been under Gvt care. I wish Neil well but his guilt is making him over simplify the solution. In the US deaths via legal drugs has actually taken over, ie opiods etc including hospital deaths. Its because the attitude to drug use hasn't changed. Prohibition doesn't work, alcohol prohibition in 1920'-30's America fuelled the growth of organised crime, all governments keep it illegal because they eventually benefit financially from the profits. It being the second biggest trade after Arms in the world, drugs are taboo. You could say half the pull is the feeling of being a rebel against the system. take the mistique away and half the problem is solved, yes people or dealers could find new streams of synthetic or opioid drugs, however the main culprits for the misery the world seems to be held prisoner by heroin, cocaine, opium will be viewed as normal as ciggerettes.. This man is so full of wisdom! Legalizing all drugs is the best way to combat violent gangs and cartels. As an example, here in
Seattle, cannabis has been legal for a few years and many of the old dealers set up their own stores selling a slew of cannabis products including tonics, creams, pills, juice for “shots”etc. Gone is that often violent underground market. It’s a new industry that is legal and the stores are very friendly and respectable. Now instead of committing crimes by distributing drugs, these guys do it as businessmen. All their staff are very knowledgeable and provide advice about their products. In fact, often when you shop in these stores they are full of the older generation picking up creams for arthritis etc☺️

@@Davido50 You bet. All the shootings are with black market guns. And then they crack down on legal gun owners. Guns are bad m'kay. We don't have legal gun owners causing problems. And we don't count stabbings, fire bombings, running people over in the same category, so yeah, nothing to see here lads. Fella was shot in the face on Halloween, ended up running a 12 year old trick or treater, a little girl over. It's every other day. Most are Czech 9mils, lot of shotties too.

My father was a police officer in Limehouse post war. He was instrumental in shutting down the opium trade and the gangs who operated in the area known as China Town, who also extorted money from the Chinese community. The Chinese people were very grateful for his services, as the work was fraught with danger.

One of my fave interviews, gripping start to finish. Very interesting points of view with real experience to back it up, this guy isn't just parroting text or imposing a view from an ivory tower or anything like that, it really wakes up the issue. Before this I was against legalising drugs. I am not saying I am 100% convinced but it's certainly woken me up to the idea... this guy isn't talking shite, he is someone clearly worth listening to! Whilst watching this I thought of another thing we should be doing is ensuring education of child exploitation is done early on in schools... if a lot of adults turn to hard drugs as they are dealing with abuse from childhood, we really need to make it normal for a child to have somewhere to go and and freely tell someone what someone may be doing to them; if people can be afraid that children cannot be pressured or scared to tell someone uncomfortable things, maybe we can stop many of them being absued and then taking the path into drugs too. Fantastic interview!!! Get this man on Question Time and all those mainstream broadcasts... would love to see him do exactly what he did here and calmly wake everybody up; the MPs from their ivory towers wouldn't be able to put the lid back on.
