who wouldn't like this video? 4 different drawers as well as 4 pairs of slides. Love it. Well done.
Best drawers video on yt period
No crazy equipment and no fancy tools and no crazy angels! just what average humane need
Yesss I can never get enough drawers in my life. I find myself in need of each drawer type so this will be a great resource to look back on 👏
Last summer I made a closet with 70 drawers. I love it. I'm getting short on drawers though...
Simple, clear and precise! thanks a lot! I found this a little nerve wracking.
I purchased about 20 of the Blum slides a few years back. I added them to EVERY shelf in our kitchen bottom cabinets. My wife was aghast at the price but now she absolutely loves them. I built a little "wall" at the sides and rear of the shelves , 2 " tall so things don't fall off when you open/close them. The bottom of the cabinets didn't have movable shelves so I just built simple ones out of ½" birch plywood including under the sink. Wife tells me that if we ever move I'll be doing the whole thing again.
Videos like these really let your editing skills shine.
This is "objectively" a really boring topic, but it doesn't feel like that at ALL while watching. I'm always impressed, but this is some next level flow and style!
The editting isn't great. All that lurching closer to the camera is OTT and why I didn't watch more than about 2 mins. And what happened to people just behaving normally when they explain stuff, we're not all children who need to be "entertained" the whole time by a big "personality".
@@mediapc4747 Whether or not I agree with your opinions, those things aren't editing. The camerawork is cinematography, and the rest is acting. (both could be summed up under directing, as well.)
I was strictly commenting on the actual editing - things like the choice of cuts, narrative flow, and scene transitions
@@the-inatorinator Personally I feel like there are way too many unnecesary cuts, as if he requires one cut per sentence, I love his content and videos, but this is close to giving me a headache. No hating, love content.. just please some less cuts!
@@peteobsolete4410 That's fair :) "Good" editing really is subjective
Seriously, bravo! This video answered basically every question that I had regarding drawer slides and major bonus points for throwing the Ikea drawer in there! Considering all your options instead of just the ones that make you look like a fancy carpenter. I'm currently weighing my options for cost between Ikea and building from scratch for a bedroom wardrobe and this was absolutely perfect. Thank you!
yo that timing is insane i found this channel today binged all morning subbed like ten minutes ago 🤣
watching him since he buildt the camera arm and just realised i didn't subscribe lol
@@Simon-gq6eb lol love when that happens
Great comparison of diy options. I really like your solutions to the common challenges we all have regarding organization and storage. Thanks for the great videos!!
The white cheap slides are more common in north america in homes but woodworkers prefer the full extension slides because of the easiness of installation and you can get them for pretty cheap in the states in bulk ($6 per pair)
where you picking up for bulk at that price?
@@darkdragonbd ebay, i.e. China
Even bulk on Amazon can get you decent ones for >$10 a pair. I have boxes now since I buy at least 20 sets at a time to get the price down. For the price they can't be beat really. Those bottom mounts are super nice but $$
@@darkdragonbd I found a "contractor pack" of ten sets of 14" ball bearing full extension soft close slides at Home Depot for about $97. So, say $10 per pair. The regular price if you buy one or two sets was about $15 to $16 per set. If you don't get the soft close feature, you save $2 or $3 per set.
i love your videos. They inspire me to make stuff so much. Love it.
yay! I love hearing that :)
@@achappel thanks a lot sir
I love watching you make creative stuff that’s different! Always love watching ur vids in my feed.
Your videos are always top-notch. Each one I watch inspires me to get into the workshop and try a new thing or two.
I really appreciate the breakdown of the different drawer slides. One thing I like about those cheap $6 ones, is that you can easily cut them down to size for custom applications.
I've done kitchen renos before using the IKEA cabinet system. I like to think of IKEA as an alternative hardware store that also has a nice cafeteria! Their cabinet system is really well engineered with a huge variety of cabinet sizes. They're also integrated to work with accessories like their bins, organizers and internal lighting systems. When you buy a system, you just chat with one of their associates, they go and pick all the parts, and it arrives on a cart ready for you in the pick up area. Their cabinet systems are so popular, there are even companies that build aftermarket high end cabinet fronts for them!
The looks on his face when he throws away the IKEA instructions manual… priceless!!!
Man when you flipped it upside down you I was just born again :D
You are spreading the enthusiasm again, thanks. Good to watch 👍🏻
i'm rebuilding my kitchen and came back here to rewatch this and figure out what do to! Alex - you da man!
I like the way you adapted the drawer design to work smoothly with the undermount sliders in #3. That's how I want to do mine. Thanks for the ideas & inspiration! 😃
I was scrolling through my recommended and was so happy when I saw another ALCH video 😁👍
Thank you for making such a quality video, you simply explain and it is clear to everyone ...
Just so on ...
Greetings from CROATIA !!
Thank you for this video, and to compare and contrast the different drawer slides. I really like the methods used in this video.
In years to come someone will find these drawers and say, "What IDIOT built these? They're all different. They obviously have no idea how to build drawers!"
Nice work Alexandre.
Should take time to sign the drawers and inscribe, "I meant to do that!"
As long as all the screw heads were the same!
Great timing! I was just in the middle of making my own drawers.
Great video! Thanks for all the knowledge and free plans!
Seeing this video before changing all the slides in my kitchen would have made my life way easier!
Brilliant. I was just needing help to figure out my beautiful new drawer sliders and found this video. It was very helpful.
this is the best drawer video, ever
super good summary as opposed to blog style of over communicating non useful stuff
0:30 So, no time to wait, let's start building. Well I do have some spare time and watch the video at 75% speed :) I guess I am a bit slowmo, or I did not have a coffee yet! Very much appreciated and good round up of available solutions and products.
Whats funny is I have been trying to figure out the best way to build my own cabinets this week. Super helpful!
very nice showcase of the different types, love it!
Definitely do a video on finishing and staining! ❤ Love the woodwork in this vid.
Dude, I love your videos. Great job man. You inspire my creativity!
First video I've seen from you; great presentation and great information. I love your high energy!
Even though the video is long that presentation really hooked me all the way .Honestly, I watched and enjoyed thoroughly every minute of it. I am beginner.Great video. ✌️ SUBSCRIBED ! ✌️
Pretty interesting, Alexandre! Great work! 😃
Thanks a lot for all the tips!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Loved this content ... Was my first time tackling a kitchen build (I work in the software industry ;) ).. I didn't like the carcass on the Ikea metod range. So I just bought one set, hop over to my wood supplier, have them cut to size exactly like Ikea's with holes drilled on birch plywood. Saved a ton.
Excellent video. In my day job I am a corporate trainer for a hardware manufacturer and distributor and I conduct a very similar activity when introducing new employees to the range of options for drawers. The difference is my cabinet houses 9 drawers and still only scratches the surface. You did a fine job hitting on the high points. Here in the USA the lower end epoxy slides retail around $3.50 a pair for a decent quality Chinese import, and the soft close telescopic side mount slides are in the $17 a pair range for an Asian import. FYI, the IKEA metal drawers are old, now retired Blum Tandembox. When Blum transitioned away from that product they continued to produce it for IKEA. On the professional woodworking forum Wood Web there were a number of small cabinet shops that continue to purchase their metal box components from IKEA. Scott
Thanks for the video. Even I knew all about it, I finally saw on youtube the creator opinion of what he was talking about, as well as what it was about criticism or popularity. Great video and thank you for all the information and for your great opinion on all the hinges. (And I realy enyoj this video thumb up.)
Wow!!!! Thank you, Alexandre!!!! I just happened to find you. So glad that I did. Perfect timing for this amazing video. I am a happy new subscriber, Alexandre. Please, keep up your inspiring work!
Morning Alexandre, nex time for the Ikea Drawers, buy a front separatly and drill trought the front. in this case, you'll get a jig to help you for the next drawer's front. Kind regards
Thank you very much. i really messed up my last try building drawers for my kitchen. Now i will try it again based on your tutorial :) Good Job!
cool :) good luck with the build!
awesome video.. packed with info - as always!
Great stuff as always. Keep it up!
very enjoyable video...a very dry topic made fun to watch and learn...thanks so much for sharing
Brilliant ….. enjoyed watching all the comparisons.
This was actually really helpful to understand why you like those more expensive drawer runners. I’ve only ever used the ball bearing kind as those are the only ones at my local stores in the states. I didn’t even know adjustable drawer slides existed! I always wondered how you got your drawers sliding perfectly into place every time 😂
Awesome and that not just wood work, that is joyful work as well :)
Nice comparison! Gotta love the Blum Moventos
Great channel. Loving your videos.
Very informative and well done. Thank you!
Hey I really love your channel. I'd love for you to make a basics series of building stuffs
Nice overview of different drawer runners and techniques for building drawers. The Ikea one looks very similar to the Blum Tandembox.
man, you are an incredible didactic and bring good content! Tks!!! I don't wanna make a drawer, but I loved it! kkkkk
The IKEA runner is actually similar to Blum, originally is Blum INTIVO, but they're made in China division, not Austria. I use MOVENTO for all my projects anyway, they're the best if you consider the effort of making box joint or dovetail boxes. Love your channel. Thank you for sharing :)
Not in every country. In Germany Maximera Drawers are made by Hettich… in Austria and Switzerland they are made by Blum… somewhere there was a list. 🤔
This is super useful, thanks for the comparison!
Excellent, Thanks for sparing.
This is just a GOOD video. Thank you very much!
No BS, just great, to the point, info. Thanks
Good explanations, thanks for the clues !
love these kinds of videos!
Incredible job 👍
Love it, if only I had this information before I assembled my desk. 😅
I clicked reeeealy fast on that notification
I'm watching 5 minutes now and it is already a really good video ;-)
the perfect guidelines for anyone to try out 👍😀
Awesome. Simple instructions.👍
Very Excellent ! Thank you ! Super usefull video !
Really good tutorial.
Great overview!!
Wooooow loved that strap clamp 🤗
Thanks. Nice video, very informative.
Few tips when using roller bearing slides, since they are so picky when it comes to sizing: Make the front/back the exact width you need (USUALLY 1" narrower than your cabinet opening, but check the slide instructions for exact clearance required. It's SOOO much easier to size doing it this way, since the depth of the drawer front to back usually has a wide tolerance. If you're going to miss your dimensions, miss them so that the drawer width is smaller than required, and certainly not larger. You'll never get them to slide properly if they are too tight, but you can get away with it if the drawer is slightly too small.
Or even a shim washer if you absolutely had too
Just found channel, and great to see, presenter not thinking he's an oracle, carpentry ninja or woodwisper,, put me right of with their patronising presentation, but subscribed, easy to follow no, bullshit, cover both Europe and America, when describing products,, cheers Mick 🇬🇧 England (Liverpool,,⚽E.F.C.⚽👈)👍
Amazing and informative!!
Alexander - I beg to differ with you on the $20 slide as to not being adjustable. Look at the mount holes; some are slotted horizontal and some vertical, just pick the one you need to move fwd, aft, up or down. There are three that are tabbed so you can pry the rail inward to reduce the dimension between the left and right just in case your drawer is slightly too narrow. I only use these slides just for those reasons. I really enjoy your videos and always look forward to your next. When you have them all installed and your first closing is difficult, the tabbed
Absolutely. You can adjust either the runner in the cabinet or the fixed runner on the drawer, or both. Make sure you use the hole at the end of the tab if you need to adjust the runners laterally.
Perfect timing, I need to rebuild 16 drawers with new sliders.
I know English is your second language because you pronounce "height" correctly. A great many other videos including one I just watched have native English speakers saying "heith". I am an immigrant myself and can spot our kind easily. Anyway, GREAT video. One thing I would like to mention is that the slides you like the least due to their non-adjustability can be made adjustable with simple L-Brackets. This takes just a bit of width from the drawer but what's a millimeter here or there? The L-brackets support the drawers as well and even allow for angle adjustment of the face to the frame.
U really deserve much more subscriber
You can find standard soft-close rails in the US for $10 a pair all over in the US
This was great. Thanks 🙏
Dont know if its already been mentioned, but the Drawers from Ikea (atleast here in Norway) is made by Blum, and are of good quality. great video!
Welcome to A.C. University. Thanks for sharing.
Great video, and I just happen to have a 40 and a 60 cm Maximera drawers to fit under a kitchen worktop, will come handy!
You are awesome 👌🏼
That ‘groove’ can be done a couple ways. My favorite is with a router, but you can do it another way by layering multiple saw blades in your table saw.
Dado blades (multiple blades stacked together) are illegal in most European countries and the table saws only have arbors long enough for a single blade. We are lucky in the US.
This video is a keeper
This is a great comparisson.
I would like to ad another option. I use a cabinet with vertical hole rows in the sides (32 mm spaced). I use 8 mm diameter instead of the more standard 6 mm, for strength. I put horizontal wooden runners straight on the sides of the cabinet, using 2 dowels (3 would be even better). The spaces that you get can be filled with drawers (aka wooden boxes). I glue my bottoms straight on the drawers, and I only use 3 or 5 mm plywood. Plenty strong. My drawers are a multiple of 32 mm in height, and can easily be moved around. The space efficiency can't be beaten. It's not for the kitchen, but great for a workshop.
Thanks for the very good information.
The IKEA drawers appears to be Blum, one in while they put them on clearance.
Blum sells some that appear to be identical.
You can make the drawers any size by just making new bottoms.
The IKEA metal drawers are old mid-range Blum Tandembox. When Blum transitioned away from that product they continued to produce it for IKEA. On the professional woodworking forum Wood Web there were a number of small cabinet shops that continued to purchase their metal box components from IKEA. Scott
Breathtaking! ;)
2:36 best unboxing Ive ever seen on youtube.
3D Machine for the handles 💣💣
You cannot have enough drawers in your shop ... especially in a woodshop 👍 I build them extra-wide, just with pocket hole joinery. That's a good compromise between quick and strong 🖖😊
IKEA sell the draw runners. They are called BESTA draw runners and here in the UK are only £5 for a set of 2. Soft close or push to open.
Hey Alexandre,
If I’m not mistaken the ikea drawers are made by Blum in know the cabinet door hinges are maybe take a look for the measurements
By the way love your videos and keep up the good work
I just made drawers without any knowledge and it took me 7 hours to build 3 pieces 😂 Glad to have this video now
Search the quarter-quarter-quarter method of making drawers. Super simple and easy to batch out drawers.
In the US, Ikea uses Blum slides for their kitchen drawer systems
Same in EU.
Cheap white slider is possible to combine with separate soft-close mechanism on one side (on cabinet or drawer).
