    That fact that you’ve managed to pull off work of this quality without a professional workshop is really impressive. Great job.

    well done. couple observations. 1. id have the angle channel on the outiside holding the drawers together. would make it more structurally sound and acts as a physical barrier and prevents the bottom of the draw blowing out, also will help securing the runner to metal as its less prone to the screws pulling through. 2. i wouldnt be spray painting the draws, id be rolling the paint on. wood is a giant sponge, so the more paint you can get into the grain, the better it will be protected from rot and weather. also helps to paint the end grain of your work piece, as its the most porous, and is the most prone to rotting and weather damage. 3. that tiny tag you have left around the runner levers/locks/latch, will snap. being plywood, it is susceptble to chipping. will probably look neater cutting it off rather than accidentally snapping it off down the track. apart from the above, very clean and tidy job. good to see people making their stuff rather than purchasing it. will be much more gratifying in the end knowing you truly built it.

    Top job. So impressed with how straight your circular saw cuts are freehand. Yes you've a line to follow but they come out great. Nice job integrating those connectors you love into a plywood drawer build too!

    Looks awesome dude, great job. Might I suggest an aluminium angle bar across the complete top edge of the top, will stop the board bending down into the drawers when you put heavy boxes etc on top, and if you put holes in it, will be a good tie down point.

    Great job mate, well done - looks pretty schmick 👌👌👍 your attention to detail is top notch mate. Hope they give you years of happy trouble free service.
    Just keep in mind though, and hope it helps others, that marine ply has no benefit at all over standard ply yet it’s more expensive due to the grading of sheets.
    Many people believe it’s more water proof because it’s “marine” ply but it’s not, same glue and same construction, same longevity too.
    I’ve done a clip on my channel if people want further info … but yes, use standard ply, it will stay as straight and as strong ( just make sure you grab straight sheets - difficult if buying from the big green box ) and save your cash towards your next camping trip away folks. Marine ply is a little like snake oil or a placebo effect.
    😉👍👍

    Brilliant work. If the cover of that narrow storage section on the left-hand size ever gets loose over time, you can use rare earth magnets at the front to keep the cover secure. I too use a pair of braided paracord (that I did myself) attached to my fridge slide. I use them as my pull handles when sliding the fringe out.

    • @explorebound
      @explorebound  6 місяців тому

      Thanks mate! Yeah my original idea was to secure that extra piece with magnets but found the fit was nice and tight so didn’t need them - but will add them if it loosens in future 🙂

    I am impressed with your methodical attention to detail and way you show the 'correct' way to do things. Like some short cuts are possible, but you show applying clamps, etc to ensure a secure straight build. Oh and to add, you can use Wood based 'nutserts' (like you do for your metal parts) that allow you to use metal screws to secure your backboard and also allows them to be removed a lot easier than standalone wood screws.

    Agree with more drawers means more organisation, but just add more internal dividers (longways as well, full height of drawer from front to rear) and you can have the equivalent of more drawers. Save space weight and money on drawer slides. Not to mention if you want to resize your division of space it’s a lot easier to move an internal divider than remake and re mount drawers

    I have built many fit outs and speak from experience as a cabinet maker/shopfitter of 37 years. Those small screws will more than likely rip out on rough tracks. 17 mm bottoms, fronts n back. Screw 12mm side on the outside with glue. Runners screwed though the side into bottom with at least 45mm screws or if draws needed lower use small T nuts counter bored inside of sides and metal threads to fix runners to draws via T nuts. Carpet or paint internally. This construction will have your draws lasting life time.

    • @GregBatt
      @GregBatt 6 місяців тому +2

      Ive built my whole fit out in a similar fashion. 10K of trips with some horrible roads and still holding up. For the weight and over pre made ones if i have to rebuild every 5 years ill wear it. The alloy angle and glue gives it a surprising amount of strength.

  • @ianweal3081

    Daniel, a very easy handle fix is to cut a piece of the aluminium angle, attach it upside down with rivets to existing angle.
    Then you just drop your fingers into the slot created between draw front and aluminium angle, pull forward on it, the entire length af aluminium channel pivots, draw opens.
    No flimsy rope handles (sorry Bianca), keeps everything firm and tidy, professional look.

    • @explorebound
      @explorebound  6 місяців тому

      Gave that a trial during the build and didn’t work well at all unfortunately - not enough grip on the 12mm alum angle when it’s pressed down as it tilts forward almost 45 degrees. Para cord handles are strong and durable - will outlast the drawers I reckon!

So just the small bottom section of the drawers is narrower, the size of the runners, but the rest is wider to bring the drawers closer to each other

A couple of ideas to consider depending on your requirements would be going for a 2-drawer build instead of 3 to get a bit extra storage space overall, or swapping one of the drawers out for a drawer-fridge instead (I considered this to run as a dedicated freezer, but in the end decided I valued storage more).
