I'm just gonna say that is a game from 2005, graphics were quite good for the time, and i've enjoyed this game a great deal, probably because i didn't have to suffer to the poor quality translation, since i was playing the original. It's a post-apocalypse battle-trucks game with an open world, in-game economy and rpg elements, what's not to love there? P.S. Original was called "ExMachina" like in "deus ex machina", and i think they shouldn't have changed it for international release.
Hikkikomoru No, even for 2005 the graphics weren't good, more like functional, tolerably tasteless. The voice acting and writing in the original made me cringe as well - that was a total disaster I personally couldn't tolerate. At least people who "suffer to the poor quality translation" may always lay the blame on translator when they bump Into something retardedly unfunny and just plain stupid. Also, Ex Machina got It's hype from being promoted as "Fallout on wheels", and was massively overrated by Russian game press. All this shit together still annoys me up to this day despite that the subject is not even THAT bad of a mediocre game.
@BulgaroSlav You're explaining this to me as if I haven't witnessed it all firsthand and pull the evaluation outta my ass. It was okay and it wasn't the main point anyway. It was written by imbeciles and over-hyped beyond belief, at least in Russia - these are my gripes. Maybe I would even play it more and call it average or slightly above average if not for all the cringe.
Stuff was called ex machina initially - russian or ukrainian or something close to that game. It had an addon. And i honestly really liked the game (and it had a pretty decent reviews when it came out). Where else can you find post apocaliptic ride'n'gun rpg?
Damn, I'm jealous, I want ice cream. Instead I have a Wagon Wheel for breakfast. ...Eventually I'll nail down this adult thing, but I doubt it'll be anytime soon.
This is an indie title from late 2005 with a tiny budget by a (then) small developer, and it's still lightyears ahead of some of the shit that's being pushed on greenlight now, almost 10 years later. I'll admit it was released too soon with too many bugs and much of the voice acting is cringeworthy, but the gameplay is actually quite enjoyable once you get a few hours into the game. I absolutely loved this game when i was a kid and played it through many times. The vehicle physics make it fun to drive, there's a large variety of weapons, trucks, and customization options, the world is huge and varies from deserts to jungles with day/night cycles and weather, all of which affect how driving and combat works, the story is quite interesting and evolves around your choices giving several possible endings, there's an entire reputation system in which you can gain/loose standings with towns and factions which provides alternate stories, market discounts (opening new trade routes), or access to faction-specific items, and there's about 20+ hours of content. All this from a $3, 10 year old indie game by a small studio working with a non-existing budget. Yeah Jim, this is something to be made fun of and ridiculed. Give yourself a round of applause you autistic asswit.
Exactly. I remember reading about this game already years and years ago. I guess it wasn't all that successful if the devs decided to ditch it onto Steam.
Alen Ivancic I'd have to agree with you, even though I've never had a chance to play it; this game actually looks very fun to play. It reminds me of a well-made Unity racing game that I used to play, except as an open-world bit. I don't really appreciate how much disrespect Jim was showing for it because it really is a very, very, good game concept, that was unfortunately cut short by its funding. Talking over the cut-scene is one of the biggest middle-fingers you can give a developer, which he did, quite self-satisfied, and, I hate to say it, but his dickish singing honestly reminded me of DarkSydePhil, which is someone that you never, ever, want someone to be able to liken you to when it comes to video game mannerisms.
Zero Parallax i know this comment is 5 years old now, but I felt like telling you that I was onboard with you until that stupid ass foot stomping that was your last paragraph. It reeks of childish, “I played this bad game as a kid and I have nostalgia for it so fuck you” levels of entitlement. And this game isn’t exempt from the facts he pointed out just because other games on Steam are worse. Hopefully you grew up a bit in the last half decade.
I finished this game when it originally came out, in Russian. It's quite decent. There was an earlier Russian post-apocalyptic trucking game called Vangers that was extremely influential and also lsd tripping insane. When this came out, it was seen is an attempt to recapture part of that magic. Another decent similar game from that period is Bandits. Similar gameplay to Hard Truck Apocalypse, but no open world and more mission based.
After the father died I looked at the left hand of the screen and saw 'You have received 250 coins!' His father dies and instead of any sort of emotion he mugs him...lovely, you should definitely play more Jim!
Why would post apocalypsians prefer trucks as their vehicle of choice? Trucks are crap off road and more importantly consume a huge amount of fuel, which should extremely limited when nobody's making it.
Yes please Jim...that was fun. Apart from when it takes you absolutely ages to spot anything that will help you progress - honking to get into town, where your total money was, picking up cargo with "i" - that's a little frustrating. If I was next to you when playing I'd have snatched your keyboard and mouse off you to pick shit up. Fallout with trucks? Bloody hell....Fallout without the quality, polish, talent, voice acting, sound design and AI, maybe.
Call me crazy, but... apart from the terrible production values, laughable writing/voice-acting, non-existing AI and myriad of bugs... this actually looks kinda sorta maybe like it could be fun? A bit? Or rather, the _concept_ looks interesting. I always like a nice Post-Apocalypse, and there definitely aren't enough vehicular combat games or Elite/Privateer-alikes around these days. So what I'm _actually_ saying is: Someone do a decent version of this in the Spintires engine, please. I'll give you all my moneys!
Yeah, like despite some questionable elements, there's nothing like it. The only game that I can think of that comes "close" is maybe AutoDuel and that goes way back to the mid 1980s.
I bought this game as it's on sale right now... it's not half bad. Takes quite a bit to get it running on windows 7 and higher but from what I've played, it's worth it.
Jim this looks like one of the better (not in terms of quality, but enjoyabilty) "so bad it's good" games, not one of those so bad bad it's annoying. It's geniuniely hilarious to watch, you really need to do what everyone else is saying and do a full playthrough.
I still have this sitting somewhere from some half-rate bundle it was jammed in, long before Greenlight was a thing. Had this been the early days of Greenlight when all was brightness and hope, I would've been stunned this managed to make the cut. Now, I"m not surprised at all. Kudos on getting further than I ever could. Alice wasn't as bad a driver for me, but I blew up much more quickly.
You only fixed the structure, you didn't have enough money to fully repair your armor. This game takes a little to get used too but it ends up being alot of fun and quite challenging later into it
HOLY SHIT I didn't even know Ex Machina is out on Steam! I must buy it! It's so damn good. Ooh, and I'd love it if you played the game some more. Maybe look up the controls, though, enemies drop loot :)
very old comment but, it does,it also has inv management, currency gambling and much more like lights and horns/customization, the game just doesnt tell you about it, its a 10 year old russian game.
Truly, who needs Fallout 4. I'm surprised at how literally Tatooine that plot point was. Burnt down farm, adopted kid, find Ben "Throttle" Kenobi who was a Jedi Explorer like your dad. I'd love to see where this leads.
Joe Wright You must have linked to the wrong time code because all I see at 2:25 is two gimps wearing white masks and Jim saying, "what is wrong with their faces?", which is a weird coincidence because that fits in perfectly with your comment if you were saying these people were not wearing masks but had albinism. What a strange coincidence! I apologise for the misunderstanding.
When the game can't even play the fucking game, it's time to take that shit out back and put it to sleep... With a .45 caliber lullaby and a few buckshot sleeping pills.
MOST DRAMATIC VOICE ACTING EVER
That death scene is the ultimate tearjerker.
jesserobles actually this game have good atmosphere.
the game is actually not bad ... the problem is that it is 10 years old
10 year old games can still be good, that's not really an excuse for the worse parts of it. It's far from the awful games Jim has covered though.
I really like this game, I hope someone could start a opensource remake of it.
Dropping in from 2020 to say that an apocalypse prevented by masks was uncomfortably prescient.
Ha! I knew I wasn't the only one who saw that, crazy coincidence
I... kinda want more of this. Lot's more.
Your sheer joy at the state of the voice acting in this game is hilarious.
indeed.
Fallout with cars? No. Hilarious? Yes. Great stuff Jim.
I'm just gonna say that is a game from 2005, graphics were quite good for the time, and i've enjoyed this game a great deal, probably because i didn't have to suffer to the poor quality translation, since i was playing the original. Hikkikomoru Hello. This game has a easter egg. In Location with Hel ( we calling this location Хель) You can Find Plane with name " Ikar Airlines".
@BulgaroSlav You're explaining this to me as if I haven't witnessed it all firsthand and pull the evaluation outta my ass. It was okay and it wasn't the main point anyway. @BulgaroSlav Is all? Whew! Thanks for not dragging me into some fruitless quarrel, man.
@BulgaroSlav Amen!
Stuff was called ex machina initially - russian or ukrainian or something close to that game. It had an addon. And i honestly really liked the game (and it had a pretty decent reviews when it came out). Where else can you find post apocaliptic ride'n'gun rpg?
Old comment, but Bandits Phoenix Rising was pretty good too
Oh god, the intro dialogue is making such a hilarious attempt to set the scene. "GOOD MORNING IT IS YOUR *BIRTHDAY*"
That game was so cool back in 2006
"You're an adult now and can do whatever you want."
BWAHAHAHAHA
typical child's impression of adult's life
I'm eating doughnuts in my bed at 2.20am. cos I'm a grown up, bitch, and I do what I want.
Damn, I'm jealous, I want ice cream. Instead I have a Wagon Wheel for breakfast. ...Eventually I'll nail down this adult thing, but I doubt it'll be anytime soon.
Beginners, both of you! At my place its 8.80 AM and I´m working. Wait, what happened?
Pfft it's 7 a.m. here and I'm 3 beers in so far.
I don't have a problem.
Business or pleasure?
....Bizzanus
This looks like a pretty good game with a low budget.

This comment is FOUR years old, yes, I know.
But I can't just go away without saying I agree with you
Fuck this guy
Zero Parallax i know this comment is 5 years old now, but I felt like telling you that I was onboard with you until that stupid ass foot stomping that was your last paragraph. It reeks of childish, “I played this bad game as a kid and I have nostalgia for it so fuck you” levels of entitlement.

Hopefully you grew up a bit in the last half decade.
I would like to see more of this epic journey.
I'd watch more. Watching you play this is strangely relaxing.
More please!
While on the subject of you being subjected to garbage; can you continue the Alone in the Dark stuff too?
I've never heard Jim laugh so heartily. That was fun.
I finished this game when it originally came out, in Russian. It's quite decent. I laughed so hard when the AI car drove into that hole. Getting flashbacks of Convoy, Over the top and Cannonball Race movies too.
This game seems as if it was made a long time ago.
+Danel Esser Well, Steam helpfully reveals that is was created in 2005.
+Arturain
And still better than most Steam games now
yes
i think 2000
After the father died I looked at the left hand of the screen and saw 'You have received 250 coins!' His father dies and instead of any sort of emotion he mugs him...lovely, you should definitely play more Jim!
Le Zook You know, inheritance. Dead people have no need for money.
Why would post apocalypsians prefer trucks as their vehicle of choice? Trucks are crap off road and more importantly consume a huge amount of fuel, which should extremely limited when nobody's making it.
Don't use logic!!!
Kristian Kumpula you gotta carry all the stuff required for survival y'know
"That's Hexadecimal from Reboot!!"
I don't think I've laughed out loud so heartily to a video before.
I miss this game so much
Thank you for these vids, Jim. The 'new releases' section of Steam has become a strange and terrifying place - you make it a bit better!
I like the beginning. The Apocalypse was the best thing that ever happened! :D
Call me crazy, but... apart from the terrible production values, laughable writing/voice-acting, non-existing AI and myriad of bugs... this actually looks kinda sorta maybe like it could be fun? A bit?

ripoutyourprejudice Interstate '76 and '81 come to mind - but those had no open world.
InnerPartisan
Yeah that's the main reason I didn't mention them. They're more straight up mission based car combat games.
How does Spintires look when it comes to modding? Is there a decent API available?
SirNilzey No idea, sorry. I haven't actually played the full version, just the demo/alpha a year or so ago.
oh god..."sad max". ah haha, that just gets me. i dont know why, but that just tickles me
This game actually won a Russian GOTY award and even now it has a live (small) modding community.
MOAR! Dat dialogue, how could we not want more?
MORE TRUCKPOCALYPSE PLEASE! CAPS MAKE ME FEEL LIKE A POWERFUL MAN
MOOOARRR! This was glorious!
Yes, more! :D
I bought this game as it's on sale right now... it's not half bad. Takes quite a bit to get it running on windows 7 and higher but from what I've played, it's worth it.
This game looks good actually.
I just got myself ready to rumble, there's no way you can end your journey here. I would love for to continue on so we may meet Mr Throttle.
i would like to see more
definitely do more.
This was hilarious! Never stop doing videos!
2020 and the face mask thing in the intro crawl is … odd to hear.
bruh
Tree missions later. Wood you like to see more?
Happy to hear laughing happy kind laughing (not sarcastic or evil) there are moments but its all serious.
We definitely need more of this lol!
Oh god please more I need more Hard Truck Apocalypse now
That was funny as hell, more please!
Is Jim channeling Jesse Cox?
More. Just brilliant.
More of this would be hilarious.
Great video jim. had me giggling
planescape torment reference in the intro text :)
More of this, please oh please more
Jim this looks like one of the better (not in terms of quality, but enjoyabilty) "so bad it's good" games, not one of those so bad bad it's annoying. It's geniuniely hilarious to watch, you really need to do what everyone else is saying and do a full playthrough.

Kudos on getting further than I ever could. Alice wasn't as bad a driver for me, but I blew up much more quickly.
Alice is actually an online player controlled by twitch viewers.
More! (After you finish Alone in the Dark. And Deadly Premonition. *Shakes fist*)
*Joins in the fist shaking*
Shake harder Steve B!
what a sterling impression of an american country singer
Oh, one other thing: you need to pick up the cargo from the destroyed enemies--it helps offset the cost of the damage they do.
everyone sing along "I'm driving my truck, I'm driving a big 'ol truck."
Hahaha, this is fantastically bad Jim. Definitely want more!
I too would like to see more of this
Hard Truck Hallelujah!
8:14 that laugh, awesome :)
I remember playing the game as a kid, still love it when I go out of country and use my crap pc, hella fun if you get used to the oddities
More please? Also there's a button to pick up stuff from the enemy cars that didn't survive the rumbling.
Damien Quill Yeah, he didn't care, he's too busy being smug.
It looks like it's from the n64
I imagine this is life after the COVID apocalypse, low res, people looking more pale then Jim after another Bethesda update.
0:04:24 Look at the shadows of the car on the right side of the screen. It's all over the place while the car is driving over the bridge. lol
Please, sir, may I 'ave some more?
0:00:38 "Some people have called it fool out on trucks"! :D
THE ROOF IS ON FIRE
I would love to see this game played all the way through!!
I would love more of this game. It's a riot
You only fixed the structure, you didn't have enough money to fully repair your armor. This game takes a little to get used too but it ends up being alot of fun and quite challenging later into it
Everytime I talk about the Mad Max series, people ask why I leave out Thunderdome.
We don't talk about that one...
HOLY SHIT I didn't even know Ex Machina is out on Steam! I must buy it! It's so damn good.
Ooh, and I'd love it if you played the game some more. Maybe look up the controls, though, enemies drop loot :)
For a dollar this game is actualy really fun!
Helps to have a map.
very old comment but, it does,it also has inv management, currency gambling and much more like lights and horns/customization, the game just doesnt tell you about it, its a 10 year old russian game.
4:43 what an entrance.
lol. it really did sound like jim was repearing something on the recording :D
You should keep playing this. You sounded like you've had more fun playing this than you have in a while.
Truly, who needs Fallout 4.
I'm surprised at how literally Tatooine that plot point was. Burnt down farm, adopted kid, find Ben "Throttle" Kenobi who was a Jedi Explorer like your dad. I'd love to see where this leads.
2:25 It's called albinism Jim, look it up.
Albinism is when you have no pigment in your hair or skin, it doesn't paralyse your face and drain all of your blood.
I never said it did.
Joe Wright
You must have linked to the wrong time code because all I see at 2:25 is two gimps wearing white masks and Jim saying, "what is wrong with their faces?", which is a weird coincidence because that fits in perfectly with your comment if you were saying these people were not wearing masks but had albinism. What a strange coincidence! I apologise for the misunderstanding.
Well that main character didn't seem to give much of a shit to being told he's adopted and his adopted father dying before his eyes.
My love for you is like a truck...
yes, I want to see how far the shitty rabbit hole goes. Do more jim!
When the game can't even play the fucking game, it's time to take that shit out back and put it to sleep... With a .45 caliber lullaby and a few buckshot sleeping pills.
You know what, Jim? I think I might like to see more of this game as well, as strange as it may sound..
Odd how both Jim Sterling and Yahtzee both lack drivers licenses, and have no apparent intention of getting them.
Spin Lathes It's almost like it's in a post-apocolyptic wasteland!
Spin Lathes Jim has been taking driving lessons for quite some time :P
Crossout is its successor. Play it, Jim!
So this is like Hard Truck: 18 Wheels of Steel meets Interstate 76?
Wait a sec... Ben Throttle? That's the name of the protagonist in Lucasart's point and click adventure game Full Throttle!
Sure, give us more, why not.
More plz
It's rather like the main character is just Goldman from HotD 2. So yes, I would like to see more. The writing and acting are hilarious. More!
More!!!!
It's actually funny…I used to absolutely LOVE this game as a teenager a few years ago XD
Damn it…I'll have to install this again :D
Play it as much as you can stand :D
The intro voice sounds like Adam Klaus (Magician) from Jonathan Creek :P
