Her voice sounded so smooth and silky on this record. She was truly a vocal chameleon (also in appearance by the way). Even after decades of being a fan I remember hearing certain songs she sang in which I didn’t even recognise her.
I remember listening to this album in 1992 and being very surprised with the sound. Surely didnt expect that after The Lion & The Cobra and I Do Not Want......the previous two releases and at 21 and without any proper background in that kind of sound I guess I was not prepared for someone like Sinead having a go at such type of classics with the full orchestral backing. I think she managed to pull it off though.
This is like honey to the ears. ☺ I may have been a little bewitched by it, but certainly not bothered or bewildered. 😉 Was that what I think it was (2:11)? 😉😄
So I'll start off by saying my favourite version of this song is sung by Ella Fitzgerald so I am severely biased. Having said that I like this modern version, her voice is lovely but I find the pace a wee bit plodding. In this version, the narrator of the song sounds defeated and sad. In Ella's version you can really feel the yearning and dare I say desperation. Two different takes, both well done.

You know this is an old standard, yes? Rogers & Hart.

This is just like your past, when you stalked Elizabeth Montgomery, Madonna, and Paris Hilton.
