I am surpried to hear that ballroom type Dancing. Ceilidh dancing was popular in my home town of Tramore. We had dancing every weekend, and occasionaly midweek to The Dunphy,s traditional Irish Traditional Music, in the Sin Fein Hall at the top of Train Hill, my brothers and sisters and mise always managed to scrape a few bob together to have a jar or two at our favourlte pub Robinson,s, and then a quick dash downhill to make sure we got our favourite seats in the Dance Hall. In the winter it was great craic, but in summer you could hardly get room to move with all the tourists who loved The Craic.

Man that's way too funny...Did you not know there was no sex in Ireland before television...but those auld dances were an occasion for sin....I'll never forget the slow ones I was ploughed down in the middle of the floor one night when the band introduced a slow foxtrot.."Did U sleep with this woman"...."Don't know Father but I could have dozed off a few times"...

Dances going on after midnight required permission of the local priest??? What civil law gave the priesthood such authority? If permission was not sought or granted, and a dance went past midnight, what did the priest do, excommunicate the dancers?
