Retro Oddities 33: "Striker in the Crypts of Trogan" (Amstrad Plus/GX4000) - 26 August 2024

Tonight, I take a look at the enhanced edition of "Striker in the Crypts of Trogan" for the Amstrad Plus machines (and, by extension, the GX4000 console). Everything I said about the game mechanics and premise in the original version also applies here, except that the graphics look slightly more appealing thanks to the Plus hardware's improved colour palette.
The Plus version actually looks nicer than the standard CPC release (as is to be expected from the hardware gap of nearly half a decade) but it's a shame that the Plus's expanded capabilities weren't utilised to a greater degree - then again, this game was originally released on cassette (with a floppy disk release later on), so maintaining backwards compatibility with the original CPC machines was imperative. At least the game can autodetect whether the user has a CPC or Plus machine and can load the correct data accordingly.
