  • Today's P/Review looks at the newest boxing of the AMT Klingon Bird of Prey. This release retains the excellent additions that Round2 added to the kit previously; diecast landing legs, and a third position for the wings.
We'd like to thank Ian from Starchwreck Models and Props for reviewing and building this kit.

Thank you for the review. I currently have the Generations first edition. In the instructions, it does give you the two options of, "attack" and, "cruise" mode. Someone at AMT had a great sense of humor and included the, "cloaked mode" which was just displaying the stand in the instructions.

Kinda tempted to do a "cloaked" landed version as it was in SF/GGP. Would be really cool to get a clear plastic version.

Lou Dalmaso ( Aztec Dummy ) has just started building an older release of this kit and is using an aftermarket kit that allows you to move the wings

Lovely! I wonder whether the Eaglemoss Merchantman is circa the same scale.

Thank you for the OOB review, particularly with OOB comparisons to older releases. You said it looks "about the same" as the 2016 50th anniversary kit (except for a slight difference in the green), and just want to confirm how much the "same" it actually is? Are all 3 wing option available in the 2016 50th anniversary kit the same as the new kit (including the more "aggressive" medium one compared to the original kit) ? Do they have the same descales? Are the diecast landing gear the same? Any differences you can see between the new kit with the previous release at all?
Thank you again for the great video... I look forward to seeing your build.

From what I can tell, it appears to be exactly the same as the 2016 other than the color of the plastic. The decals are slightly different from the 2016 version. The new one has red letters as opposed to black for the text on the wings. The "shoulder" decals are lighter and grey as opposed to the black and blue of the 2016. I had not even opened the 2016 decals until you just mentioned it. I'll post some pics on my Instagram and Facebook page.

I remember building the TNG version waaay back when and somewhere in my ship graveyard I have the original updated version with the metal legs and ramp ( the ramp struts and railings disappeared an age ago sadly) if I see the new versions I'll probably get it ( and do a better job of it 🖖🤭) as for the adversary set version I built a few ( got 1 unbuilt left) I still have one hanging by a door despite it missing a side cannon which got broken in a move but at least the wings still are adjustable 😁 apart from the d7 kit every Klingon ship is brilliant sadly that can't be said for the federation ships 🤔 did the designers from AMT ERTL prefer the empire and wanted to enter sto va kor? As for the base I still prefer the symbol version as opposed to the dome ka'pla

I built one of these years ago. It is a great size and a fun change of pace compared to other Trek kits.

I've always thought the attack mode was wings up, like on the Generations instructions, which they call flight/cruise.
It certainly looks better that way and makes more sense.
I know you were joking about the Bad Batch version but there are photo's online of an Imperial Tydirium shuttle with a Bird of Prey head instead of the Tydirium cockpit and missing the top wing and it looks really cool.

Love your alt. paint scheme. I've always thought that a way to explain away all the different paint schemes, is that each 'house', has their own paint scheme. So, Quonos 1 isn't so much the paint scheme of a Klingon 'Air Force One' but rather the scheme of Gorkon's 'house' and as of such, your alt. scheme would play right into that idea.

I like that Kronos one paint scheme on the bird-of-prey escort👍 I've built the generations version & I have the last release version still in the box I guess I don't need this version since they're exactly the same
