Finally! A bullet journal that is for real people who do real work! Thank you, so glad you shared this. Good tips. So far I keep ending up viewing journal videos by youtubers who freelance, run their own business or have lots of control / flexibility in their schedule.
Thanks Ivy! Glad you found it helpful. 😊 I also noticed a lack of videos for ‘9-to-5rs’ so I figured, why not share mine? Feel free to share any tips and tricks you may have as well and thanks again for watching! 📚
So glad, thanks again Ivy! Work has recently changed for me so I’ve had to tweak my system again. I’m hoping to film a video soon with some updates once the craziness dies down.
Lil Divette, I don’t usually comment on UA-cam videos, but I must say, I have watched, re-watched, and re-watched 4-5 times for each of your videos. There are so much valuable information in each of your videos! This is what I have been looking for when I am researching how to implement a bullet journal! I am a busy working professional with multiple projects and simply cannot bother with “pretty planning”. Thank you, thank you!!
Thanks, Kathleen, glad you found it helpful! I know how you feel and also missed seeing ‘bare bones’ functional videos so I decided to share my own. Managing multiple work projects can very challenging so hopefully we’ll see more planning videos about it-if you have any tips & tricks, please share. 👍 Good luck with your projects and thanks again for watching-and commenting! 😊
Finally a no nonsense bujo! I manage multiple scrum projects at work and don’t need to track karma points or spend 4 hours with a ruler. This is helpful
Ms. LilDivette - I think you may have just saved my life. I know this is an old video of yours, but this is the work bujo video I have been desperate for. I'm a technical writer who is also PMing a long, complex project. While I've done both those things before, this is the first time (for the last 6 mos) that I've worked in a company using Agile Development. While I have used a BJ for this---and do know it has saved my sanity--still, I have referred to it as my 'splat' BJ, because 'dump' doesn't do it justice. I like your system, which seems like it has a chance of corralling all the tasks, details, and constantly changing priorities of this type of work. And honestly, it was only this week when I *finally* figured out (prior to watching your video) that color coding might be a hot tip! And I *love* the write-on stickies for all those recurring tasks. If you ever wondered if your videos help people, here is a THANK YOU from the bottom of this viewer heart. Peace out.
Thank you so much for your kind words, Mary! Like you, I also struggled to find a system that would serve me in this type of work environment-and it took awhile to figure out!-so I posted this video in the hopes that it would help others and I’m always thrilled to get comments like yours letting me know it has, it’s become one of my most popular videos! I also love learning about the tips and tricks used by others in our community so please feel free to share if there’s a favorite planning technique that has worked well for you. 👍 Good luck in your job role and thanks again for watching! ❤️📚
This should have much more views. For the past 2 days I have been trying to find some useful bullet journal organization/set up tips but majority of the time "set up" meant coloring/doodling. So thank you, thank you thank you.
thank you so much for this video, even though I love watching other people's beautiful bullet journal setups, but I find them not too practical or work oriented enough, I'm very glad to have watched yours!! so helpful
Thank you so much--I'm thrilled to hear that! 😊 I will be doing more videos like this next year so check back soon for more. Thanks again for watching!
Very impressed - I try to use a similar method but don't quite have it nailed down as tightly as you. Also impressed with your function over form approach. Excellent.
Thanks, David, I appreciate that! That’s what’s so great about this community-the more we learn, the better we get so please feel free to share your tips and tricks! 📚👍 I started as a DayTimer user years ago and tried many other systems which helped mold my function over form approach-I just took the best of techniques from each, ignored the preprinted pages telling me how to use it or what to write down, and repurposed them to meet my needs...I highly recommend it. 😊 Thanks for watching!
Oh my, I love it. I love all aspects of the travelers notebook but more importantly I love how you have everything and I do mean everything in one place. Your style has encouraged me. You have definitely made me think about one book July. Please keep sharing!! I love it!!
I learned a lot from this video and will be applying some of your tips. This is what I love about bullet journalling and there are just not so many functional planning videos out there. Thank you!
Thanks Kristine! I'm glad it was helpful and I agree--I love the flexibility of this system and learning how others use it. I'll be make more videos on my work bullet journal so check back again soon. Good luck with your bujo and thanks again for watching! 📚
Thank you for creating and sharing this video! I have learned so much this video that I will definitely incorporate into my bullet journal! I'm also in the technology field where my company has adopted the agile methodology and I love learning how other professionals use a bullet journal to organize multiple projects! Thanks again!
+Mari Santos Hi Mari! Glad you found this helpful. It took me a couple of years to figure out a planning system that would help me manage my workload so I'm happy to share and--like you--learn from other professionals. Thanks for watching! :-)
Big thank you I also use a very simple method but after watching other Bullet Journal users I started doubting my method you have given back my faith many thanks. 🤓✅
+Frank Willacy Awe, thanks Frank and thanks for watching! It's easy to question your system when you see what's currently popular in the planner community but I've always been a firm believer to just keep it simple and stick to what works. At work, I'm just too busy to add any unnecessary steps/layers and I thought I was in the minority but hearing from viewers like you has restored MY faith that I'm not the only one so thank YOU! 👏
I love the sound of your voice. Its so soothing and how you organize and take notes is so awesome. Im subscribing just to listen to you talk about stuff.
Thanks Jamee! It’s taken years of trial and error. Start simple, stay focused on your needs and priorities then see what techniques work best at managing them-I wrote a blog post a while back to help beginners get started, check it out if you’re interested (lildivette.com/planner-overload-series-where-do-i-begin/ ). Good luck and thanks for watching!
Your work week is a lot like mine. I'm a program manager over 2 projects and 5 teams. I've been struggling to find a functional method to keep track of the many calls, tasks and meeting notes. I'm going to give this a try. I found page threading changed my life as I was flipping through all the time and my index wasn't helping when I was on a conference call. I now have a basic index at the front and a project categorised one at the back which aids me going straight the page for a specific "deliverable" in a logical order. Thanks so much!
You’re welcome Laura! My project workload just changed again so I’m tweaking my system again to accommodate everything I need to keep track of. Once I get a little break-things are extremely busy right now-I’m going to film another update video. Thanks again for watching and please feel free to share any tips and tricks you’ve come across-I’m always on the lookout for new planning techniques! 😊
Lil Divette the best thing I've done is create a new index at the back in category blocks. I deliver jet engines so I have track each engine as that is what my main milestone is. So now when someone asks about that particular engine I flip to the back and I have 5 engine projects. Within each project the engine number and all the relevant pages it's on. Usually technical, latest status and delivery dates. It's really helped. My main index is split into project, sub category, subject then page numbers. I've done the threading too. All my main tasks are in my weekly spread in my Filofax and I put page numbers against them. I just love my Filofax. Can't see me ever moving from that for scheduling. In my weekly spread I print off my outlook calendar which is a digital version of your call pages. My bullet is manly for project status and minutes. Xxx
Wow, sounds like a cool project! 👍 I’ll have to try the index by category blocks trick. I started off as a Daytimers user, then Franklin Covey, Filofax, coiled, disc, book bound-quite a lot of planning products and systems and as a result developed my own *system buffet* which leverages the best techniques of the ones I’ve tried so the planner vessel became less important. My main thing is color coding since I’m a visual person-both in my work BuJo and Outlook so they both match-and that really helped me with finding information quickly. Thanks for sharing and good luck with your projects! 😊
Yes! I'm a visual person too and my outlook is colour coded as well! So after you said that I have ordered a new set of highlighters and I've changed my outlook colours to ones that I can get highlighters in😂 IV had those colours so long it will take new some getting used to but I know it's the key! 😂👍
You’re welcome Susan! I’m a visual person and color coding in both my personal and work planner is extremely helpful. Hope it works for you too and thanks for watching! 😊📚

Thanks for sharing! I've been looking for ideas to create my own bullet journal for work and then I found yours. This is exactly what I'm looking for. Again, many thanks.
Thanks Lori! I'm so glad you found this helpful. I also struggled with this and looked for video ideas so I figured, 'why not share my own?' Stay tuned for more and thanks again for watching! 😉
You have excellent communication skills. Great presentation and well delivered. Very helpful--thank you for taking the time to share all this information. I need the inspiration. Are there plans to update your blog? Do you still use this same journal size/system?
Thank you so much for your kind words and glad you found it helpful! 😊 I still use this bullet journal format for work-with some additional tweaks-but a combination system involving a notebook and digital software (I have a much bigger project now). And ‘yes’, my goal is to resume posting this year so check back soon!
Hi Sylvia! So here's the setup to add ribbon bookmarks: - in a 4 string TN, place the (thick) bound book on the strings and wrap the 1st string around the front cover and the 4th (or last string) around the back cover to hold the book in place. This will leave the 2nd and 3rd strings under he book spine. - take two long ribbons, each double the height of the TN plus about another 1" so it'll stick out of the bottom, fold each ribbon in half and tie one ribbon around the top of the 2nd string and the other around the top of the 3rd string and voila--bookmarks! Hope this helps and thanks for watching! 😊

Hello! Enjoyed this video. Question for you (apologies if answered elsewhere) - what do you do to archive your notebooks when they're all filled up? Do you stack them somewhere, or scan them?
Hi there! I usually keep them on a bookshelf or in a drawer for future reference but I find I rarely need to go back to the 'nitty gritty' details of a project. Usually, it's the major milestones which I capture on the monthly pages, a master project schedule or keep in a note in Outlook. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Hi! The graph journal is available on Amazon--check the video description for a link to the companion blogpost which has links to all the supplies used--but I didn't mention the travelers notebook maker because she closed down her shop. However, you can check out some of my favorite TN makers that I've purchased several TNs from in the past and hopefully you'll find something you'll love: ChicSparrow.com , JournalsByJoey (on Etsy), leatherquillshoppe.com, and Sojournerusa.net Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
+Jessica Burnett Thanks Jessica! Sadly, the maker of this TN is no longer in business but SpeckledFawns makes one in a similar Leather called Rustic Kodiak. HTH and thanks for watching!
Hey there! Unfortunately the maker of this TN is no longer in business but I've included in the description of this video a comparable recommendation to a seller I've purchased several TNs from who makes a similar TN with pen pouches. HTH!
Thanks Barbara! Unfortunately the maker of this cover is no longer around but there are other makers who can make similar covers-check out Apple Pig Leather or LeRight on Etsy. HTH and thanks for watching! 😊📚
+yupyup1562 The full clear tabs are from Staples, their ARC brand that came on a snap-in dashboard for the ARC disc bound system. I think Post-it has something similar. They're great for writing repetitive tasks/events and are easy to move from day-to-day or week-to-week. HTH!
Hi Rori! Yes, it's the Miquel Rius soft bound graph notebook (it you go to the companion blogpost linked below, there's a link to the notebook) and it's held by the TN strings. Given how thick it is, I wrapped the 1st string around the front cover and the 4th string around the back cover; the 2nd and 3rd string are under the spine--I tied ribbons to these to make the bookmarks. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Excellent. I love these notebooks, but the covers are horrible--so I have had a hard time finding a leather cover option that worked well. Thank you for letting me know how you attached yours! Also, who made the leather cover? TIA!
+Rori Rants The company I bought the cover from has since closed but some of my favorite TN makers that I've purchased several covers from are: Chic Sparrow, Sojourner, FoxyFix, Leather Quill Shoppe, and Journals by Joey on Etsy (he makes covers with a flip out pocket/pouch). HTH!
I was just wondering if it was the same place that I had purchased from. I think it probably is-I didn't know he had gone out of business. Thank you for the recommends!
Love it. Can't stand those pretty BuJos anymore, they are not functional. I have 3 jobs and study on my own, with 2 expensive courses with penalties. Have to really organize. Thank you
I completely understand, Kris! With so much to do and keep track of, keeping things simple and effective is the way to go-I keep my “pretty” in my watercolor sketchbooks as a relaxing creative outlet where they belong. 😉Thanks for watching!

I love this video! Very informative. I recently purchased this same journal. How did you add your ribbons to the journal?
Hi Sylvia!
So here's the setup to add ribbon bookmarks:
- in a 4 string TN, place the (thick) bound book on the strings and wrap the 1st string around the front cover and the 4th (or last string) around the back cover to hold the book in place. This will leave the 2nd and 3rd strings under he book spine.

Thank you for the video. It was very enlightening. For someone who has some basic experience with software projects, would you be able to provide your recurring task checklist for a co-ordinator keeping track of multiple projects and Tech teams? Understandably each project may have its own nuances, but the high level tasks and checks would be beneficial to a standard checklist

Where can I find the traveler's notebook cover you use, and the thick journal inside of it? I love both of them!
Hi! The graph journal is available on Amazon--check the video description for a link to the companion blogpost which has links to all the supplies used--but I didn't mention the travelers notebook maker because she closed down her shop. @@LilDivette thanks I would love a cover like that.
What brand of repositional tabs are you using that you store in the front then add to your call page? Thank you
+yupyup1562 The full clear tabs are from Staples, their ARC brand that came on a snap-in dashboard for the ARC disc bound system. I think Post-it has something similar. They're great for writing repetitive tasks/events and are easy to move from day-to-day or week-to-week. HTH!
Apparently I missed some things, sorry. Is this a Miquelrius notebook? And is it held on via elastics like a regular travelers notebook? Thanks!
Thank you for sharing this awesome video. ❤😊
Thank you, Karla! I really appreciate it. 😊
Agile via BUJO!

Glad it helped, Ginger, thanks for watching!
Great video. Thank you.
+Kay Banks Thanks for watching, Kay!
+Kay Banks Thanks Kay and thanks for watching!
