En-men-dur-ana, held significance among the Pre-Sumerians as he was the ancestor from whom all priests of the Sun God had to be able to trace descent. A Semitic language narrative tells of Emmeduranki, subsequently being taken to heaven by the gods Shamash (Utu) and Adad, and taught the secrets of heaven and of earth. En-men-dur-ana is associated with the city Sippar noted for worship of the sun. Enmendurana appears 7th on the Sumerian Kings List.
For all these reasons, the Biblical patriarch Enoch appears to be based on the far earlier Sumerian Enmenduranki. Enoch is also 7th from Adama and his lifespan is said to have been 365 years which is the number of days for EArth to make one complete revolution around its star.

I absolutely encourage this kind of thinking about hypocrisy. However, if you recall from the TOS episode "Arena" the two species were already locked in mortal combat from the events on Cestus III and with a chase into Metron space. In any hour long television or short story adaptation you are likely to find contrivances and plot holes in order to package a set of primary ideas and symbols that the writers, directors and producers want delivered. The ultimate take-away for the episode, beyond how to make gunpowder, is the prompt to study the ancient Enoch literature and track it back to the narratives of Emmeduranki of Sippar.

Chuckle, your comment is timely because I have a directly related video currently in the works.
I've not previously heard Perrin and Barry's Metron referred to as "Larry" before... so I'm guessing you are going with the gender neutral slang pejorative for "moron" but that doesn't really fit the character's intelligence or abilities. Vic Perrin did provide the "Control Voice" in the original version of the TV series The Outer Limits... and the upcoming video will cover that and more... so I will tag you on it here.
I have noticed that many, but not all, humans can have strong negative reactions to being shown any reference or evidence that humans are comparatively ignorant or barbaric and that they often miss the use of symbolism to quickly communicate concerns in a self contained 42 minute television play.
This will amuse some... because such reactions do seem to confirm the accusation and provides rationale for those researchers (Pugh, Vallee et. al.) who have concluded that humans are puppeteered by an unseen hand. ;)

This is kind of an unusual storyline for Trek. It's really more in line with something you see on Space:1999, the concept of humans being too primitive and too savage to be allowed to exist in the universe. In ST:Next Generation, John de Lancie's Q makes it clear that humans are still quite primitive. With ST:ENTERPRISE, T'Pol and other Vulcans suggest that humans, to include a ludicrously brash Captain Archer, are not yet ready to be blundering into first contact events.
Still, in lieu of taking a info-empty shot at Brock...
could it just maybe have been more productive for you to provide an example of another episode from ST:TOS where the humans are portrayed as relatively backward? Maybe a comment from the Talosians (The Menagerie or The Cage)... or from the Organians (Errand of Mercy).... from Gary Seven (Assignment Earth) stating that Earth is too primitive... but of course that was circa 1968...
or perhaps one or two others I'm holding in reserve for you to mention in your next comment... if you like. ;)

The NT makes reference to the works of the gentile philosophers Plato, Seneca, Theophrastus, Democritus... and many others going back all the way to the Chaldeans and Sumerians... and also rejected Hebrew works, such as the Book of Enoch.

We’re still trying to beat the vanity out of me I think, but at what point is that just basic instinctual self-preservation?
I think we have quite gotten to that point.
We don’t respect, generally, the ‘supersoldier of the future’, because he is ‘made’ better- it is not through any hero story. So what can I say? I doubt I am really to be respected.
Respect my humanity, as I anyone else’s, perhaps the joke itself is the value, but in spite of anything? I think not, I have no capacity to suffer, so to respect that is misplaced.
I respect your attitude though, to give that gesture to one who may appreciate it, that is definitely wholesome and shows your humanity as a man. It is something I relate to, but I feel in the depth you explore you deserve to know the truth about me, than for me to allow you to think something which is not reality of who you are interacting with.
And yet, it goes deeper still, but that is for another day.

Visually portrayed by Carolyn H. Barry with voice provided by Vic Perrin. She will later appear as an engineer in TNG's episode Home Soil.

That's interesting. The character she played gave me
the impression of a Greek God.

Advise if you disagree that, per some ancient writings, Metatron is the name that Enoch received after his ascension and transformation to an angel... with Genesis 5:24, "Enoch walked with God, then he was no more, because God took him." being a surviving pointer with the Hebrew canon.
