The way you talk about the assembly process reminds me of Gunpla. So I'm approaching my first Knight this way, once it and the magnetization kit gets here. These videos are super useful to learn what kind of techniques are unique to tabletop.
I love how this shows that you don't need the most fancy techniques for competitions like this. Just simple techniques done well, a strong vision and diligance will get you 99% of the way there. This is stunning work and I love how you don't overcomplicate things when explaining them. Lots of painters use lingo that turns off newbie painters. You explain things nice and plainly, even at this level of skill.
This was incredible to see. Thank you Vince. I hope I speak on behalf of everyone that sharing these endeavors is incredibly insightful and educational.
Incredible insight I must say I understand why you can't show us 100% but you describe to the best of your ability 100% and your transparency shows humbleness and the fact that you want me to be as good as I can be you don't care if someone builds on your work and shows you something new. Awesome sportsmanship bro
2:34 I am usually pretty zen when building mini's and I think that is why I appreciate that part of the hobby. I understand that is not the same for everyone. In fact I remember you (Vince) saying that with most projects you rather paint than build and thus are ok with cutting corners.
11:50 very true. Thin oil washes can not only have a minimal effect, which might be something your where going for, but worse can more easily separate on you. Since I switched to thicker oil washes, this hasn't happened once.
This is my favourite piece you did, out of everything you entered for the Golden demon just gone. Was just amazed by the paint job, & had so many questions as to how you went about it Vince. So as you can imagine couldn't have clicked fast enough. Thankyou for sharing your process, & the reminder & importance to set yourself microgoals in any big project .
This is a packed video! Soooooo many tiny little tidbits. This one is saved in a special place to watch over and over(title Vince’s Futzing Tidbitz). Great job in instruction. And oh I almost forgot to say….the knight doesn’t suck! Thanks!
Sound quit about 31:38 I really do appreciated the systematic demonstration of painting such an advanced miniature!. Also, thanks for the beginning portion where you showed something of the process of assembly. I've just received my order of items from Archon, and I will have have LOTS of assembly to work on.
@@VinceVenturella I kinda like it, although I wish the voiceover faded while the background music crescendoed as we watch you make a broken deckal beautiful. Anyhoo great video 👍
Between 30min and 34 min is when Vince tells the secret to always winning, it was too powerful so youtube had to silence him :( Seriously tho Vince, you've outdone yourself this time, that pink is absolutely flawless and the freehand? chef's kiss. Look forward to seeing this badboy in person in Nov!
When using the tape, I had a thought about painting house using tape for mask--you mask then use either a layer of the base color or a layer of clear poly to seal the tape and then you go ahead with adding the second color. This way, the base or clear layer seals the gaps between tape and surface and you don't get any accent color bleeding under. (Of course, this negates the "free edge highlight" which might be a bit of a bummer.)
The amount of useful instruction you can pack into an enthralling 40 min video is tremendous. Definite save/watch/repeat material. The finished Knight is a thing of beauty and an obvious labor of love. Thank you for sharing this freely. Inspiring stuff man. Good luck at GD … cant wait 4 the new game drop.
Wow...that was YOURS?! Incredible! I was showing this model to my girlfriend the other night and we were completely infatuated with it. It is absolutely gorgeous! I can't believe it was you that painted it. That's great. I should have known. The more I watch, the more I see how much your painting style appeals to me. Great job 👏
Having painted a couple of large knights and a slew of war dogs, I’m definitely with you on the idea of breaking the job into mini goals. It really helped me to break the knight down by each panel, weapon, the legs and the chassis. My abominant took over a month but I absolutely love it.
This is probably my favorite piece of yours that I've seen. I absolutely love this piece, and there's some great tips in there too. Inspiring stuff, and all the luck at Golden Daemon when it comes around.
17:07 I can tell that you are trying to get an even distance between the stripes. What can help is to place twice as many pieces of masking tape with no spaces in between en than remove half of them. LOL: you mentioned that option 30 secs later... That's what I get for posting right away. The reason I do that is because that way I don't forget what I was trying to say, but I run the risk of this happening. Oh well, there is always the edit button.
Not sure if you could do all these steps on chaos space marines but even if you could get the burgundy, Violet, turquoise that would be a fantastic scheme! Cheers Vince for sharing this with us all
38:18 I have been working on getting a very smooth base rim and the best way I have found is to find black paint that will self level like Vallejo Black Primer (also more durable than regular paint). Put it on thick, but not too thick otherwise it will collect too much at the bottom (look for the sweet spot). It sometimes needs multiple coats, but the end result is worth it.
Wow, incredible! My aspirations can only aspire to be this good someday. I love the bits of encouragement along the way. Especially since I’m nowhere near this level of proficiency yet. Vince, I’d be shocked if you don’t place.
This was my favorite of yours. It was a pleasure to judge it up close at MHE. As for the inspiration, I took my backdrop away from my GD Drycha entry, as I had heard they didn't like backdrops...GW certainly has a favored style.
I love doing dioramas and similar forever taking projects, but never things of this size or texture because I really enjoy painting with a brush and get nothing from airbrushing.

I find it incredibly funny that I'm working on my first army piece, a Knight Abominant, and not only do you have a video on painting a high quality knight but its with a VERY similar color scheme to what I picked, haha. Mine is less vivid and the turqoise more neon to seem more spectral since its a House Korvax Knight, but this is still incredibly helpful!
Don’t want to be pedantic, but I have the audiobook. It’s pronounced, at least by the British voice-actors Ban-E-Lash. Amazing book highly recommend, House Devine is badass.
maybe there were two periods, where the voice was not there. Not sure if Vince had nothing special to speak about at these moments... However Great video and project. Completley not my choice of army or colors, but lots of insights and inspiration.

This was Epic Vince, just what I was looking for. Love that pop colour in the shadows. You take bold colours and blend them so well. Loved the exhaust burn, I’ll be coming back to this video time and again. Now I need to choose my colours, what would be the pop colour of predominantly red panels?
Vince, I am going to try your colour scheme as it’s not colours I’ve used before and I want a challenge. I can’t get hold of golden fluorescent pink or the Kimera colours. Are there alternatives? Also are there any of the pink colours for the carapace that are not essential for a non Golden demon paint job? Thanks in advance if you have time to answer
Hey Vince, firstly, another great video and an incredible looking model. I love that you could absolutely guess you were the one who painted it without being told. In this video and a few recently, you've talked a lot about working with very thin paints through the airbrush, which if I understand correctly allows you to both have more control when building blends and work closer to the mini because the thinner paint means you can run the airbrush at a lower PSI. I've tried working thinly recently (ratios like 1 paint to 8 thinner) but whenever I do, I get paint drying incredibly quickly on the tip of my airbrush. Am I missing something obvious? It's not particularly hot or dry where I work so I'm not sure what the problem is.
I'd like to try a slanesh Knight but maybe one day. Great paintwork.
Go for it!
Remains one of my favorite miniature videos to date, the color scheme is as ever delightful and just so cathartic as an experience.
Unfortunately the voice over dropped out for a few minutes around 30min, but this was a thrill to watch! Thanks for sharing your progress.
mistakes will happen on a big project like this. just keep going. xD
Drops out at 30:35, returns after the decal is painted, around 34:40
I kinda just figured Vince wanted to give us a chill moment of music and NMM painting that Decal haha

Yeah I struggle a lot with how thick to make my oils. It’s so foreign when all you know is acrylics.

Might still be too much paint or air, but it can happen, just keep a wet sponge next to you so you can clean regularly.
