- We were quite surprised at how well this big SUV climbed. Can't tell in the video, but inside the car you can clearly hear the front LSD working and it does a pretty good job, especially considering we were on street tires. Ground clearance was the only thing keeping us from making it all the way to the top.
I have a Ford Expedition and I love them.
This is the calmest trail ride i have ever seen
A bit of advice. The RSC system on these trucks require you to keep constant throttle pressure. The computer will 'figure it out' and apply power accordingly. You can see it working just that way at the 1:20 mark. Good stuff!
BTW that 'clank' you're hearing from time to time is a stretched transfer case chain.. it's skipping teeth. Sadly somewhat common on the transfer cases of this generation explorer and expedition.
Did pretty good with street slicks.
I have a same model 2015 Ford Expedition EL. I just installed a set of Ironman all terrain tires and they grip very well.
I just got a 15 El 4x4. I was looking at tk2 but how much do like those Ironman tires?
Here is proof that even with unskilled driver and road tyres it can do pretty solid 😀
Two things, your spotter is an absolute jabroni! And that 4 wheel drive system is pretty impressive, tires didn't spin much before the computer sent the power to the wheels with traction. Could have definitely made it up if your spotter wasn't a jabroni..
Need some BFgoodrich K02’s man
Street tires, minimal clearance and open diffs. Perfect offroader
What year is this? All you have is a center lock diff (4x4) and electronic braking unless its 2017 which has a rear LSD. If there was a front LSD for any of the 2015-2017 it would be listed in the brochures. I don't see it anywhere.
Sweet . I didn’t know these Fords had good AWD systems
This actually has a legit 4x4 transfer case with a low range. No lockers though
@@jabroni6199 do you recommend it as an off road vehicle. I'm looking at buying one. Thanks
@@ama7matar1 if you want a family hauler that can also go off-road they are great. Some better and larger all-terrains with a minimal lift would make a big difference. If you want a dedicate off road rig, there’s better options.
Proof that excursions where a purpose built truck and expeditions became a over weight minivan
Do the seats fold flat in the rear for easy sleeping?
Aqua God yes
Yes. I camp in mine all summer
This one is IFS and IRS and its sweet
What mode was the transfer case in? 4-auto or 4-high or 4-low?
Tyler MacConnell 4L no 4A on this model
@@jabroni6199 Are you sure. There should be 4a on all the 4wd Expeditions
@@rangerover06sc I'm absolutely 100% positive. I've got a 2018 Raptor with 4A so I'm aware of the setting and what to look for. This model year Expedition does not have 4A
@@jabroni6199 What year is it. Because 2015s definitely had 4a, my 2003 had 4a, and even when they first came out they had 4a, so unless you are telling me this is the only 4wd expedition on the planet that doesnt have 4a I'm pretty sure it has 4a, there would be no reason for it not to.
@@rangerover06sc Lol.. just let it go i don't know whos worse here camera guy or driver or both!!
The funny thing is this looks like my expedition what's the difference is mine is an e l
The way these reviewers crawl so slow with these trucks 🤣🤣. Drive the thing and take the high ground. Just a touch of momentum Will work wonders.
Thanks for watching and commenting. We aren’t reviewers. Just a group of friends that take our own personal vehicles to some local trails. To be clear, our limiting factor here wasn’t lack of grip. It was ground clearance. Carrying momentum when you lack ground is a good idea if you’re looking for a creative way of ripping the oil pan off your engine block.
Imagine that, street tires performing like dog shit in am off road environment.
I feel like I could of passed you going up that in my 2006 escape
Get good tires, let the system do their job. Sometimes more speed is needed also. We get inpatient as drivers some time. At the end of the video, the truck would of went up on the left side, the right would have lifted, but he could have made that.
Just needs mud tires and lift level strut spacers
I don't think Expedition has a front LSD. It has a front diff locker, though, in 4L mode
Corvin666 defiantly not a locking diff. You can hear it working.
@@jabroni6199, how do you hear a diff working? Maybe you mean the traction control system that applies brakes when wheels spin?
@@jabroni6199, no locking diffs either - just the traction control. LSD is an option on EL variant: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Expedition#Third_generation_(2007%E2%80%932017)
Corvin666 LSDs and Torsen diffs are quite audible. Torsen you can hear by simply turning the wheel.
@@jabroni6199, well, not sure, man, but I have same gen Expy and everywhere I looked they say that they stopped putting mechanical lsds on Expeditions long ago. There's traction control which is marketed sometimes as e-lsd, but that's pretty much it
Interesting
Still have it? Any mods to it currently?
Nah, it was a rental :)
@@jabroni6199 oh hahahaha
This is off-road???)))
He used road tires not off road tires, change your tires then return back for new video
This was a rental
Dude, I have an '04 Expedition xlt 2wd and it can make it up that trail without hesitation. Shit tires and fear of hurting your truck??? Why do it? If your trying to show your truck's capabilities, you did a horrible job!!! Sorry.
I do what I want. And, No your pos won’t make it up
You should watch some UA-cam basic off road videos before attempting!
Lucky Phang all he needs is slightly more aggressive tires would’ve been a lot easier lmao
Why would anyone do this without at least mud tires. This girl needs a lift and mud tires!
Curtis J Berger Jr. this area is typically bone dry. We just had one of those rare winters that year where it rained quite a bit.
Chevy makes the better off-road SUV Ford makes the better towing truck
Whats makes you say that? Just curious
