It's nuts that I'm at that age now where most content creators are my age so the things I remember from my childhood are now a big part of the Internet's collective conscious. It's like I can't believe other people were also born in the late-90s, early-00s, for some reason. Great video, btw. I always forget that Jeff Kinney did Poptropica. He truly is the John Hughes of the "born to late to be millennials and too early to be zoomers" generation.
For me (I'm 21) and a good bit of the content creators are a) as old or a tiny bit older than me or b) younger than me. Like for example Tommyinnit and Tubbo. Their both teenagers and it's great to see them being so successful at the *grind*, but it's also a little weird that a 21 year old is supporting them. If that makes sense
@@Sayyble I know! Oddly, most of the content creators I follow are older than me and I've been watching them for years- like Brutalmoose, probably my favorite youtuber out there. And I was only that motivated becuase I knew you got a flying ability at the end, and I would soar around the island and be insanely sad when I found out the feature was only for that specific island. Though, I do remember feeling immensely satisfied when the villains would cry in jail lmfao. Edit: can we appreciate that Sir Rebral got the note: Can dish it out, but can't take it
yo, same here! which is why the superhero island was my favorite as a kid. it's the only one that i truly completed tbh. i was close to finishing some of them but i was never in the mood to finish them lol
I did some digging myself because of this video and yes, the old islands were removed because of flash. They were/are updating the islands. There doesn't seem to be an exact date of when the islands will be back though. However, if anyone is interested, there does seem to be a backdoor method of playing the old islands using "flashpoint" which is a project that aims to archive old flash games.
@@mypointisinvalidbut7010 you can log on every so many weeks to see what's on the map. They're *probably* recoding the easier ones first. It's obviously going to be slow and tedious but a bunch of stuff is slowly coming back. They have new stuff but it doesn't look like a ton. Also, if you still have it you should keep logging on your old account every once in a while so it won't get deleted. Membership is added so most of the stuff in the store that was recoded is under membership, so what you didn't get previously you most likely can't get without membership. The old islands that are up so far seem to be accessible to old players without the membership but are apparently membership required for newer accounts. There's also a daily credit wheel spin on home island.

I have extremely fond memories playing Astrokinghts Island, it really does feel like the best island they ever made. The setting, story, and scope were far greater than anything we had seen or would ever see again. As you mentioned in your playthough, the medieval setting crossed with robotics was an exceptionally cool aesthetic and the mystery of who Mordred was was extremely interesting. Like who was this guy? He's clearly behind all these advancements (which is good) but he also seems to have been cast out (which is bad). He supposedly created crimes against nature (which is bad) but we meet one of his creations (the owl) who seems helpful and nice. Is Mordred good or is he evil? Is he alive or is he dead? It's so fascinating how he's the most important character in the story, yet you don't even know it he's alive until the very end. He's an impressively complex character that is so well incorporated into the mystery and aesthetic of the Island and was critical to the plot even though you don't actually meet him until the very end. And the setting does a great job of foreshadowing his return without even letting you know 100%. Like his experiments with combing living things with robots explain how he survived and you are fighting all these weirdly robotic creatures before you get to him. I always suspected he was connected to the great evil we were fighting but I never knew for sure. It's a great example of the setting informing the story and that's hard to pull off in any game let alone an internet flash game for kids! And on top of all of this, Astroknights was one the hardest islands to complete gameplay wise. You were always mentally puzzled and challenged by what to do next. This combined with the greater scope (you were literally traveling to different planets!), fantastic story, and intriguing aesthetic really solidified Astroknight as the best Island ever made! Bravo Jeff Kinney, bravo!
Shouldn’t you be stopping cultural genocide from happening? SMH, can’t believe all the Jedi died cos Obi-Wan was playing Poptropica instead of talking to Anakin :/
This was my elementary childhood right here. I remember all the kids would play Poptropica in the computer lab after finishing whatever the teacher made us do. We didn't get much time, but it was better than nothing. I even remember helping people out, since I was far into the game. I had a friend outside of school, who helped me. So it kinda went a full circle. I even remember this one time: a girl I had a crush on asked for help in the game. She gave me her account info and told me to play for her. Later that same day, she changed her mind. I went back home, still with the slip of paper with the info on it. I didn't open and read it at all. I decided I would honor her wishes and just throw it away. And I did. I don't remember what the last island I played was, since they kept releasing new stuff. But I will say that the first few islands were my favorite, since those were there from the beginning. I have long since forgotten the account details. But it was very fun while it lasted. An end of an era.

The only thing I can remember when I played poptropica is that like time piece. So you’d travel between different time periods and you would have to go between them in order to solve riddles and puzzles. It was honestly a really good idea because you’d have to keep track of different items and people in different time periods and travel through like 12 mini worlds with different little side quests
This is giving me such a weird version of nostalgia. I remember a lot of this, but so much of it is new and different, and some things I remember are even missing. I remember in elementary school when our whole class got obsessed with Poptropica, except that in this whole class of 9 and 10 year olds, there were only two people who spoke English so most of us played through every island with trial and error.
Once at the computer lab I sat next to one of the girls who spoke English and made her translate every single piece of dialogue. She was probably so annoyed, but it was very exciting to actually understand what's going on for once.

I did some digging myself because of this video and yes, the old islands were removed because of flash. They were/are updating the islands. There doesn't seem to be an exact date of when the islands will be back though. However, if anyone is interested, there does seem to be a backdoor method of playing the old islands using "flashpoint" which is a project that aims to archive old flash games.
ohh my gosh, automatic download
the developers are bringing things back, they're recoding the islands, store, and items because flash it's disabled in devices in 2020 and so on.
When the pirate island and astro knights comes back (and maybe reality TV) ill play again

Still have the book, and the poster that came with it has been up on my wall for years.
That was the one with the Chupicabra!!

That was my absolute favorite island when I was a kid

Oh the nostalgia. I used to play Poptropica 10 years ago, too.
Same, and my favorite island was the western one
My brain was operating at overdrive when I was playing this game back in the day
I remember that at my school, it was like a foreign drug, anyone who dared going on it risked getting caught by the teacher
thanks a goose
This is giving me such a weird version of nostalgia. I remember a lot of this, but so much of it is new and different, and some things I remember are even missing. At least they seem to still have Cryptids, which traumatized me as a kid because of the part where the Jersey Devil pops up in front of the window.
When I was a kid, my little sister would sit and watch me play poptropica. When we were playing on cryptid island, and the jersey devil popped up, she and I both SCREAMED. Loud.
Omg yeah that island always scared the mess out of me when I was little, especially the info videos about the cryptids.
that jersey devil scared the shit out of me when i was a kid lol
FELLOW JERSEY DEVIL TRAUMA VICTIMS
I actually loved the jersey devil part lmao.
Of course it scared me but the one screen in the short film with the old lady chasing it off with a broom was so hilarious to me and my sister as a kid we would just play it over and over again
I loved poptropica so much as a kid, I’ve made it my life goal now as an almost adult to finish every Island.
I COMPLETELY forgot about funbrain, the nostalgic surprise was amazing lmao
