There are reactors/reviewers that questioned if Grisha loved Carla and Eren, which is insane. His love for them is shown throughout the show. Like you said, he waited for Eren to realize the most important thing of all until telling him the truth. “If you want to save Mikasa, Armin, and Everyone rose, you must learn to control this power.” And Eren’s mindset of valuing freedom is what made Grisha tell Eren that he’ll show him the basement when he gets back. It’s great to know that you guys understand and your insight is soooooooooo amazing! Great reaction/discussion!
About the ocean it's Grisha telling them. He didn't get to see the ocean before but it wasn't a secret or anything, he went to regular classes and learned about the world

The scene where Historia sees Ymir's past by touching the letter is anime original. We didn't see Ymir's backstory until this point in the manga, so they had to add that into the anime for it to make sense that Historia knows about Ymir's past. In the manga, Ymir's backstory was explained in the letter to Historia at this point in the story. But they moved Ymir's backstory to Season 2 of the anime.
They could've just left the story in the letter and fast forward stuff....
Yea, tha author was involved totally in these past seasons. And Historia getting the momories from the letter is also a good resource to skip a long flashback at this climax point.

This is my theory.
Eren will eat all the titan shifters in the last fight, including Armin, and have the power of Ymir Frizt. He will able to meet Ymir Frizt by the Coordinate. The title of the first episode “To you, in 2000 years.” was the messenger Yimir send to Eren. She knew someone will gather all the titan power in one body 2000 years later, just like how The Owl knew the name “Mikasa, Armin”. After all, Eren will give the Titan Power back to The Earth Devil and die.

Probably the attack titan has been passing memories all around trying to change different points in time in order to change the ultimate outcome. Eventually (now), the coordinate gets mixed with the attack titan, and its paths to every eldian gets involved. Most importantly, Ymir Fritz. Ymir then divulges the memory of how she gained her power to Eren/attack titan 2000 years later. And with this, he knows how to reverse the "curse" or "contract" or "mutation", whatever it may be.
But this is all speculatory nonsense.

For those who have not seen some discussions on how the number 13 is significant, lets do some math:
* From the narrations in season 1 and the history books shown, around 100 years ago (specifically, 107 years from chapter 2 of the manga), the first ruler of the Walls, King Fritz the 145th created the walls to protect humanity.
* When a someone gains a titan power, their remaining lifespan is set to 13 years due to "Ymir's Curse". Same number of years between the royal family's succesion ritual.
* "145th king" means there have been 145 weilders of the Founding Titan at that time. 145 x 13 = 1885. So 107 years ago, it has been 1885 years from Ymir Fritz.
* At present time (1885 + 107) it would be 1992 years since Ymir Fritz.
* Eren got his titan power at age 10, he's supposed to die when he's 23. Currently, Eren is 15 and has around 8 years left to live.
* 1992 + 8 = 2000... What was the title of the first episode again? Oh yeah, "To you, in 2000 years." No biggie, nothing to see here.

And then we see a sht of Grisha encountering the scouts for the first time, and specifically a close up on the scout emblem, who are also a group who embody seeking curiosity and freedom.

Zeke is royal blood. Not half-royalty. There's no half-royalty. Its not like the royal family keeps the blood pure with incest. We don't know yet why he can control and spawn titans but it's probably a limited power ( otherwise they wouldn't care about Eren so much ) and it's probably related to his blood in some way.
And EVERY descendant of Ymir has the chance to get one of the Nine Powers. Not just royal kids. Since all eldians are descendants of Ymir, every eldian kid can get it.

Ymir's 13 years were not almost up, she got her titan a little before Bertolt broke the wall back in season 1, she was sent back to Marley to be eaten by a warrior. If you remember in season 2 the flashback shows Ymir eating one of Reiner/Bertolt/Annie's comrades. She took the power of the jaws titan from him.

I think the passing of the titan power if ever one possessor does die, it doesn't necessarily need to be a royal blood. I believe just being a descendant of Ymir, meaning all of Eldian decent, are possible to inherit the power.

Actually piecing the anime altogether, I can confirm Ymir is Dead. Ymir wrote her last letter implying her 13 year time is up, she’s practically in her late 20s or maybe early 30s, she looks young in her age when she was kicked down to Paradise which means she was roaming around outside the walls, Reiner and Bertholdt were successful warriors and they said Marley had a plan to retake founding Titan with New kids (these are Reiner, Bert, and Annie probably and the random dude with them on their journey to the wall) When she ate that random dude with Reiner and Bertholdt she got that fast gremlin Titan..
I think during this time, Reiner, Annie and Bertholdt during that time were gonna break down the wall just after that, that gremlin Titan must be like one of the warriors, but got eaten by Ymir..
Holy shit. So this means Reiner and Bert and Annie worked together to take Shiganshina, Colossal breaking first wall, Armored taking second, then Annie screams to add more titans..

Its not a filler tho. Isayama said that the anime is like the final product of aot. Like if he wanted something changed in the manga or he committed some mistakes, he says it to the people who’ll make the adaptation.

- Ymir's death isn't because of the 13 years limit. It's just been 5 years after she ate a warrior and inherited the titan power. rewatch Historia's flashback and you'll see why/how Ymir was dying.
Tofu confirmed to be Ymir. She has to be seeing the *PaThS* in order to do such detailed analysis.
Also they seem to be confused about number of things:
Our Ymir died not bc of the age curse but bc she stole one of 9 Titan powers when Reiner and Co. landed on Paradis Island and had to give it back. (Historia even saw her being chained up in the crystal cave right before she was eaten). Historia getting Ymir's memories, btw is an anime only thing, Ymir writes her backstory in the letter.
It was Grisha who was telling the book's readers about the ocean, since the knowledge isn't prohibited in the rest of the world unlike Paradis Island, he would obviously know about it. Remember that Grisha's story is in the books(probably minus Dina being a Titan of royal blood since it had to be a secret if Marley ever found his stash), Eren can see and feel the visuals of the books but everyone else too knows at least half if not most of what Eren saw.
And yes, any random Eldian baby (royal or not) can inherit one of 9 Titans if said Titan isn't directly passed on. Royal blood can't possess Founding Titan bc they get brainwashed by 145th King wish to renounce war. Whether or not can Zeke wield that power bc he is half-royalty is a topic for another day.

2 quick things first off, you said "but there are no titans in the walls" at around 13:55 , did you forget the season 1 finale post credit scene and the first few episodes of season 2? It's been established there's Colossal-sized titans inside all of wall Maria/Rose/Sina. And second, it was said in season 2, episode 10 that the Ymir we know of was stuck in a mindless titan form for 60 years, so she got injected 65 years ago relative to our current timeline (because she got injected and was in a mindless titan for 60 years, then ate Marcel, the 4th shifter that was with Annie/Bertholdt/Reiner, became human again, then 5 years passed in our story too), way before the scene with Grisha here (which was like 15-20 years ago as Grisha was already a young adult). They were both injected in that same exact place though, that's true. On a different note, I was there when you uploaded 2x12 and got spoiled regarding those 2 things, it's really a shame you read those. However, while those two things were "5 second shock factors" as I like to call them, they're small fish in the big pond that is the Attack on Titan plot, so hopefully you'll be fine moving forward. When this episode aired last week, someone on Reddit made a spoilerless breakdown of a lot of the info that came out of this episode (and it was a lot, the biggest info dump of the series so far). Since this episode had to adapt 2 of the most dialogue-heavy chapters of the manga, I figured I'd paste the comment here so there's no confusion when watching subsequent episodes (again, all information from this episode, no spoilers) : - The walls is located on an island, called Paradis, that is populated by Titans. - The rest of the world does not share that same fate. - The Titans are a specific race of humans, called Eldians (or Subjects of Ymir), who if injected with Titan spinal fluid, will transform into Mindless Titans. - The Eldians’ common ancestor is a woman named Ymir Fritz, who was the first person to gain the Power of the Titans almost 2000 years ago (not the Ymir character we know of from season 2, she was an orphan taken in as the face of a cult and given the name Ymir to be worshiped by the followers. - After Ymir’s death, her power was split into 9 special Titans (Colossal, Armored, etc). - The majority of the people within the walls are Eldians, with the exception of a few “noble” bloodlines (like the Asian clan Mikasa is a part of). - The main continent of the world is controlled by the Empire of Marley. - Over the course of The Great Titan War, Marley gained possession of 7 of the 9 Titan powers. - When the king of the walls left the main continent 100 years ago to create the walls on the island of Paradis, there were some Eldians left behind. - These Eldians are now heavily oppressed and forced to live in Internment Camps. - The people of Marley justify this by claiming that, in the past, the Eldians abused the Power of the Titans in order to control the world and commit atrocities against the other races of the world. - When Grisha was 18, he was recruited into an underground resistance group, called the Eldian Restorationists, who were lead by a spy within the - Marleyan military that was referred to as “The Owl”. - The Owl sent the Restorationists ancient Eldian text that contradicted the history taught in Marley. It claimed that the Subjects of Ymir used the Power of the Titan to bring wealth and prosperity to the world. - There was a branch of the Royal Family that refused to follow the King when he left to create the walls. - Dina Fritz was a descendant of that family and joined the Restorationists. Grisha and Dina were married after a year, and they had a child named - Zeke, who later becomes the Beast Titan (and is Eren’s half brother). - The Restorationists come up with a plan to steal the Founding Titan from the king within the walls so that they could use its power to overthrow the Marleyan Empire. Soon after that, Marley announced that they were beginning to recruit Eldians from the ages of 5 to 7 years old to join the military and train to become Warriors in order to enter the walls and steal the Founding Titan because they claim that they had received a proclamation from King Fritz, saying that at some point, he would start to rebuild the Eldian Empire and once again reign terror across the world. - The Owl tells the Restorationists that this was a lie, and the true reason for Marley starting this operation is due to the Power of the Titans becoming less effective in war as technology advances, and the island of Paradis harbors a large quantity of natural resources that could be used to fuel modern weapons. - Grisha decides to make Zeke into a double agent and have him become one of Marley’s Warriors. - Zeke ends up betraying his parents and the Restorationists, resulting in them being sent to Paradis to become Mindless Titans. - The Owl was the soldier that Grisha ran into as a child when he went outside of the Internment Camp to see the airship.

however grisha stole the founding titans power and gave both bowers to eren. so technically eren is two different titan shifters.

1st episode title was to you,in 2000 years.
The 145th king build the wall 107years before the story start. Therefore 145X13=1885. 1885+107=1992(current year). Eren was given the power at 10 when the titan kick the first wall. He awaken it at age 15. Therefore eren should be able to live till 23 . 23-15=8.

To be more accurate, like Tofu said, the Eldian people (also called people of Ymir) are conected, so, Historia could get those momeories just because of that at the moment she touched the letter or just because her royal blood (Royals are conected to the titans).
If you want to see it by this was, it wluld be more accurate: In the manga, originally Historia reads the backstory of Ymir at the letter so, she getting the memories could be just a resourse lf the anime to not get a "filler" at this point of climax.

Ymir's blood line are called Eldians that means not only the nine shifters or the royal bloodlines but all of them are connected. You can see from episode 1 of season 1 that Eren is dreaming about the titans eating people, I think that he saw the future for a bit even he was not an Attack Titan yet.

For those who have not seen some discussions on how the number 13 is significant, lets do some math:
From the narrations in season 1 and the history books shown, around 100 years ago (specifically, 107 years from chapter 2 of the manga), the first ruler of the Walls, King Fritz the 145th created the walls to protect humanity.
When a someone gains a titan power, their remaining lifespan is set to 13 years due to "Ymir's Curse". Same number of years between the royal family's succesion ritual.
"145th king" means there have been 145 weilders of the Founding Titan at that time. 145 x 13 = 1885. So 107 years ago, it has been 1885 years from Ymir Fritz.
At present time (1885 + 107) it would be 1992 years since Ymir Fritz.
Eren got his titan power at age 10, he's supposed to die when he's 23. Currently, Eren is 15 and has around 8 years left to live.
1992 + 8 = 2000... What was the title of the first episode again? Oh yeah, "To you, in 2000 years." No biggie, nothing to see here.

That's actually Grisha's voice explaining what the ocean is. The first part of the episode was Grisha narrating over his story in his book that the scout regiment just obtain. It's not only Eren getting knowledge from this episode; the people reading the books are also achieving information, however Eren is kinda like watching a movie from his dad's memory so that why he knows more things that are not fully written in the three books that Grisha wrote.
