Just wanted to say that I really appreciate these videos. As a first time DIYer it's really nice to see a lot of this done before I end up doing it! I'm really looking forward to more of your videos!
Nice video ! I own a 2015 Cayman GTS and previously owned a 2014 Cayman S...but never had an opportunity to actually visualize the engine. Your instructions were clear and easy to follow. Very well done ! Looking forward to more videos.
I'm impressed, I've watched some of your other videos. Not many people show you how to put things back, along with handy pointers about potential trouble spots. Its not always as simple as reversing the process. thanks.
You are so awesome and concise! Your instructions are perfectly clear! I have a 2012 Cayman S that I'm going to be working on soon. Keep these coming!!!!
Very good! I've been wondering how to do that. The part about the clip in the middle was particularly good. I bet alot of DIYers have ripped out their crpet try to get that out! Thanks again.
Cool Video man! I just stumbled across your channel. I own a clean '88 Porsche 944 and I don't wanna give it away because it's nearly perfect but a 987 Cayman S is soooo tempting...
Thank U very much! I feel ready! Now the only think that I am needing right now is a Porsche Cayman for opening the engine tab. kisses from Stgo Chile.
On my 2007 Cayman (base) there is an additional plastic pin at the centre top of the front carpet, that holds the carpet in place. This plastic pin is behind the metal clip that is seen in the video. I used a straight screwdriver to pop the pin up; then and only then was I able to slide the carpet out as demonstrated in this video.
Great video, you're really good at making clear instructions (better than a lot of people.) I thought the channel name sounded familiar, just made the connection between you and Stradman lol Just subbed, I don't even own a Porsche, but your videos are interesting to watch nonetheless!
That handle over the plastic holding down the carpet probably comes out, or at least loosens up with the bolts holding it down so you don't have to bend the plastic. Looks like there are some caps you have to lift to access those. Next time you go to Home Depot check out their brand of ratchets, the smooth rounded handle ones hurt the hands less if you really have to pull or push on them, and the mechanism is tighter and better my 3/8" ratchet from there handled more than my 1/2" Craftsman. I'm sure other companies have good wrenches too but, I can say I've put mine through some hell. Breaker bars if you start getting into suspension bolts and head bolts. 6 point sockets will save you from rounded of bolts as the car ages.
I don't think there's been a mid-engined Porsche street car with engine compartment access this good since... the 550 Spyder. Maybe the 904... Been a long time, anyhow. Would have been nice if they'd somehow incorporated quick-release fasteners, but I'm not complaining! I was considering a Boxster, but it looks like the Cayman is the one to get!
Your videos are really great. Thank you. Have you ever replaced the oil separator vent line? I broke mine this weekend when I was installing an IPD plenum. Will I have to take off the firewall?
+CaymanGarage Is this your everyday driver? How do you like it for city driving? Or could you make a video called: Living with the Porsche Cayman!? Btw love your videos, can't way to see more vids from you soon. Subscribed!
Good video. I was noticing the gear select cables running under the console and then up over the engine. What is the other cable next to the gear select cables? I've never owned a Porsche before coming but I must say I have fallen in love with the Cayman. I have noticed that normal maintenance appears to be easier than on many domestic and Japanese cars. I definitely see one in my not so distant future.
Not quite sure what the other cable is. Never investigated! But honestly this car has been super easy to work on so far. Just yesterday I pulled both bumpers, all lights, mirrors, handles, and roof rails off the car in about 1.5 hours!! (prepping to wrap the car)
Just an FYI. If you drop a nut, torx, bolt etc. into the engine bay, like me, try banging on the Underbody Shield. I heard, then saw my bit bouncing about and was able to fish it out with a telescopic magnet in a minute or two.
Hey, I’m trying to reinstall the top metal cover and the middle screw is too short when the cover is bent due to all other screws being put in. Is there some sort of trick to it?
If it were mine I would replace the bolts with Dzus Quarter turn fasteners with or without folding wing handles. If it’s good enough for a aircraft it good enough for a Porsche.
Have you tried running it with the engine exposed from the top? (so the carpet padding panel and metal cover removed) Is it unbearably loud..? Not recommended?
+ama2343 i havent looked too into the IMS issue in general. I have been told that it rarely occurs in the 987s but Ill have to do more digging on the subject
+CaymanGarage thanks a bunch! the vids are awesome. please keep it up, especially regarding regular maintenance like serpentine belt, fluid changes, brakes (if possible) :)
I was thinking the same thing, I know Fiero's (which had the engine right behind the seats, but outside the cab) would get warm inside since you were practically touching it when seated, Porsche must have insulated very well.
Karina Fletcher I've never been asked that! I'm not sure! Sounds like a great project though. I assume You have to take out interior trim pieces (to remove suspension). Maybe you can access what your looking for through the wheel well
And Skotty Kilmer says you have to drop the engine to do anything on these. From what I've seen, the Cayman looks easier to work on than a Honda Civic.
So one could adhere some Dynamat or other sound proofing material on the back of the carpet pads, eh? I know that sounds like sacrilege, but I sure would prefer a bit less engine noise.
A question. I want to buy a Porsche Cayman S 2011, 2.7, I tested it and noticed very hard suspension. Freeways are like a carpet, but some streets are asphalt and other tarred. Well, does is it normal to feel driving like a going in a skateboard..?
very simple ??? ha..ha... :D I got the budget to own a second hand *Porsche Cayman*, but i really worry about the repairing fees, If there was anything happen on it !
does Porsche really call those covers "trays"? I would think"Cover" for top or both or maybe even "firewall" for the verticle one...."Tray" just seems wrong...to me anyway
The oil change is actually very simple. Pull the plug, take off the filter and finish up just like on an ordinary car. Everything is accessible. The oil fill is a cap in the trunk. You don't need to remove any panels to get to it.
I recently bought a 2006 Cayman S and I am very happy with it. Your videos are clearly presented and easy to follow. Subscribed!
this looks like the start of a really cool Porsche Cayman channel , great video

Watched a few of your videos to familiarize myself with my new Cayman.
Thanks for publishing them. They're great! Subscribed.
Great video! Exactly what I was wanting to see and know! Would love to buy a Porsche Cayman someday and was wondering how to access the engine bay.
Proper how-to presented in a flawless manor! Exactly what I came here for, nothing more nothing less. Lovely, thanks a billion! 🤙
Thank you. Well done and easy to follow.

Great video - Very clear instructions and to the point without any unnecessary rambling...thanks!

I really appreciate you posting this. I had assumed most maintenance on the Cayman had to be done from below.
I feel like this guy should start a detailing business
Great video man. I just ordered a 2019 Cayman and now I want to change the oil...Keep it going...
Cool Video man! I just stumbled across your channel. I own a clean '88 Porsche 944 and I don't wanna give it away because it's nearly perfect but a 987 Cayman S is soooo tempting...
Great video. Very encouraging. The information was presented with a very calm yet confident demeanor. Well done!

Thanks for the video! I needed this info to help with training for work. Excellent job!

Great job! Excellent detailed video
Thanks Again! Keep them coming. Great job!
Thank you for explaining the front access cover, as I'm chasing a power steering leak.
great video well done, thank you Sir.....

Bet there is afternarket options. You can always mod these slightly
Have you ever thought about getting a 981? Would be a great addition to your shop. Reliable and such
Great video, was easy able to change my friends 09 cayman engine filter, drive belt, refill power steering, etc, thanks
nice!! I want to buy a Porsche cayman in the future, keep the cayman videos going :D
Very informative and precise. Subscribed
Thanks for the video! No wonder the owner's manual re commends having a Porsche mechanic (not necessarily a Porsche dealer) do engine work.Jon Ash
Any other maintenance vids other than the ones you've loaded? Keep up the good work
Well done. Lot's of help to me.
Thanks for your efforts.. great video 💐✨👍✨👍✨👍✨👍✨👍
Brilliant Video, many thanks .
Your videos are really great. Thank you.
Have you ever replaced the oil separator vent line? I broke mine this weekend when I was installing an IPD plenum. Will I have to take off the firewall?
Great video, thanks for posting!
I think it looks cool open like that. Kinda like how you can see the huracan, R8, GT, etc engine while you drive.
Good shit man. Love your vids. You'll be on Shmees level soon ;)
+ricardo maldonado haha thanks!! getting there slowly but surly! I have a good youtube friend "thestradman" whos helping me!!

Would love to see a serpentine belt replacement vid!
+Justin Lautz great idea!
That’s so cool you can be in the car while working on the engine 😂
like your videos keep doing more! even if its little thing for the cayman!
Very helpful, Thank You!

Great video as usual. QQ: Is it easiest to access the O2 sensor plugs by removing the front panel? I'm looking to replace my post-cat sensors. Thanks.
I've had success just reaching up from under the car... it is a super tight fit though.
I wish you fired it up while you had it all open. Good Video!
Loving your videos!!!
Great video! Thank you!
Just an FYI. If you drop a nut, torx, bolt etc. into the engine bay, like me, try banging on the Underbody Shield. I heard, then saw my bit bouncing about and was able to fish it out with a telescopic magnet in a minute or two.
Excellent work!!
Great video-keep it up
Cheers mate, great vid.
Thank you
Hey, I’m trying to reinstall the top metal cover and the middle screw is too short when the cover is bent due to all other screws being put in. Is there some sort of trick to it?
Appreciate the video!
No engine oil dipstick in these things?
If it were mine I would replace the bolts with Dzus Quarter turn fasteners with or without folding wing handles. If it’s good enough for a aircraft it good enough for a Porsche.
Not trays, those are heat shields...make sure they go back exactly as found.
Dan N He ate his lunch off of a tray!
Those are engine access covers
Have you tried running it with the engine exposed from the top? (so the carpet padding panel and metal cover removed)
Is it unbearably loud..? Not recommended?
hey man, i'm thinking of jumping into the porsche world by picking up an 07 cayman. Is the IMS an issue with the 987s like it was for the 997?
+ama2343 i havent looked too into the IMS issue in general. I have been told that it rarely occurs in the 987s but Ill have to do more digging on the subject
+CaymanGarage thanks a bunch! the vids are awesome. please keep it up, especially regarding regular maintenance like serpentine belt, fluid changes, brakes (if possible) :)
thank you!
is it the same process for the new 718 Cayman??
Thanks for this vid.
what on earth? so much effort....
Where did you get the rear bumper bump delete things?
It's the stock bumper! Just wrapped the bumper white and wrapped the bumps black.
@@SummitLife Oh gotcha, must have been the angle. Looks great!
@@SummitLife So is that whole car wrapped in white? Or re-paint? looks good. Any special considerations when wrapping a cayman in a different colour?
Just out of curiosity and I am considering a cayman, does it get a little warm inside the cabin?
Young J.T. Not at all
I was thinking the same thing, I know Fiero's (which had the engine right behind the seats, but outside the cab) would get warm inside since you were practically touching it when seated, Porsche must have insulated very well.
No
how do you get to the radiators to check for leaks as car is over heating and warning light is coming on with water coolant symbols
Just remove front wheel wells and or front bumper. Radiators are easy to access. But if you do have a leak it’s most likely your water pump
How do I access the top of the rear suspension, the bearing on mine is squeaking and stops when it's raining, I need to spray some lube on it.
Karina Fletcher I've never been asked that! I'm not sure! Sounds like a great project though. I assume You have to take out interior trim pieces (to remove suspension). Maybe you can access what your looking for through the wheel well
Maybe I were thinking of replacing the top strut bearing as the squeaking is driving me crazy, No idea how to remove all the trim panels sadly :(
Great Video. Very informative. Subscribed
what year is the cayman
Useful stuff!!
LazyTamago Gudetama! Love it.
And Skotty Kilmer says you have to drop the engine to do anything on these. From what I've seen, the Cayman looks easier to work on than a Honda Civic.
GREAT VIDEO???? Thanks !!
Thanks.
Dude, you are the shit!
Thanks ma friend
"Easy".... my God.... imagine changing the serpentine belt....
I was too scare to even start....imagining whats gonna entail with that "simple" job
Valve gaskets
The serp belt actually looks easier to change than on other cars like Nissans and Ford transverse engines.
@@TheRealProtagonistic that's true the serpentine belt is accessible but not very often do you have to replace the serpentine belt on a car.
How about replacing any of the accessories lol? That alternator looks too big to get out!
So one could adhere some Dynamat or other sound proofing material on the back of the carpet pads, eh? I know that sounds like sacrilege, but I sure would prefer a bit less engine noise.
Thanks!
changing a water pump on this is probably a piece of cake
I like your sarcasm.
LOVE!
Maybe a battery replacement or exhaust...thanks
+Allan Zielinski both are in the works!
Ha ha wow! And I thought working on my Lotus Elise engine was a pain!
A question. I want to buy a Porsche Cayman S 2011, 2.7, I tested it and noticed very hard suspension. Freeways are like a carpet, but some streets are asphalt and other tarred. Well, does is it normal to feel driving like a going in a skateboard..?

Super. Loving my 987.2 S ua-cam.com/video/MTmEshD3Dc4/v-deo.html thanks
OMG!! Maintenance so hard.
C'mon be honest, have you ever driven the car *without* any engine covers on?...it would sound great!
Actually yes. I have a video on it lol
very simple ??? ha..ha... :D
I got the budget to own a second hand *Porsche Cayman*,
but i really worry about the repairing fees, If there was anything happen on it !
How is the car? Worth the money?
absolutely
where is the timing belt?
👍
does Porsche really call those covers "trays"? I would think"Cover" for top or both or maybe even "firewall" for the verticle one...."Tray" just seems wrong...to me anyway
Now I know why oil changes at the dealer are $200
The oil change is actually very simple. Pull the plug, take off the filter and finish up just like on an ordinary car. Everything is accessible. The oil fill is a cap in the trunk. You don't need to remove any panels to get to it.
On my cars, I access the motor by opening the hood. But…they aren't as cool as a Cayman.
Geeze oh peats you'd have to pull the engine to get to the headers lmao 😂
The headers are on the bottom. Extremely easy
... mammie, i love the engine *
Need my head gasket done. Mechanic on that? Fuk outa here
😭😭😭
