@@GiniDeaton I watched your video and the Bob Ross one. He put black gesso on the whole canvas before using the paper towel technique with the white gesso. Maybe he started out with a white canvas and needed it to be black. I am a real beginner. I went to 3 Bob Ross classes but I need more instruction and practice. The instructor put a lot of emphasis on gesso and what it does and how to use it. I have both white and black canvases.
@GiniDeaton Thank you Gini. I suspected as much. I saw Bob's version as well. Thank you for a wonderful lesson. Thank you for your reply. I will look at your other paintings as well. Blessings.
Can you please move the camera more to the right side. First you were standing couldn't see anything you did as you do it. Then always we can only see the back of your hand instead of the brush. You do nice work
It would be better if we could see you mixing your water and paint on your brush and also see what you are painting instead of the back of your hand. Perhaps a camera to the side could help
Applying oil on the canvas is a wet into wet method of painting taught by Bob Ross. I use safflower oil with an alkyd dryer that helps the paint dry faster.
I'm not sure what you mean. I am showing you how I paint the painting in the video. If you mean doing the video itself just google how to do a video and there are lots of instructions on that. Thanks for watching!
The Bob Ross method is practically cheating. Just by dabbing a paper towel around you instantly create the illusion of detail without spending hours painting in background foliage. Good stuff.
Awsome!
Thank you so much for this tutorial, Gini. What magical effects - so inspirational.
You’re welcome
Very nice painting. Love it ❤❤❤
Thank you!
Very nice work and well done 😊
Thanks a lot 😊
It’s beautiful, I will be trying this your way! Thank you Gini
Thanks Arlene!
I love this.
Thanks!
this is amazing
Thanks!
I can tell you are an artist, not just someone like me, who copies others
Do you prep the black canvas with black gesso first?
I love your version.
Barbara
Thanks! You should able to see what I did in the video.

Yes, I used a black canvas. You can buy them black or you can use black gesso on a white canvas. Just be sure it is completely dry.
Is the sap green and yellow in the foreground oil, not acrylic?
The only acrylic is the black and white in the background. The rest is oil paint once the acrylic is completely dry.

The wet into wet method has been around for centuries. Artists use a lot of tools. It’s a lot of fun, don’t you think?
