    What the screen shows soon after 4:14 does not match what is being said. "turned off precision boost overdrive" and yet the PBO settings are "auto", it is critical that that PBO is disabled.

    It is not just the high temp, it is the speed at which it occurs, on a very high workload they shoot from idle temp about 48C to 85 in about 3 seconds. Never seen that on Ryzen first gen 1600.

    Too many variables. Is it the tuning or the fan that reduced temps? A proper test should show each change in turn. Change the tuning with stock cooler, then add the new cooler with stock tuning, followed by the new cooler with the new tune. I'm guessing the fan may gave more to do with this than overclocking.

  • @merlin6R
    @merlin6R 4 роки тому +2

    This video is spot on. Upgraded from a 2600 that was overclocked to 4.1ghz and only got 60c under stress using my Articfreezer eSports Duo. Same cooler on my 3700x and it's jumping all over the place going mid 70s and this is in a full size Coolmaster HAFX case.
    It's not necessarily the CPU being hotter that's annoying, it's an 8 core 16 thread so that's got to be expected. The problem is how it jumps all over the place even at idle with fan noise ramping up and down constantly. After 3 days of trial and testing I completely agree with this guy's video. I'm overclocked to 4.1ghz with +0.08 on the voltage offset. The cinebench score is exactly the same (within a few points) as mine was only hitting 4.1ghz on all core boost anyway. It's now quiet and doesn't ramp up for no reason.
    The only place you will lose out is if you're playing an old game that only uses a couple of cores where the CPU would have boosted a little higher. This is a tiny difference that isn't worth worrying about in my opinion.
    Whatever cooler you are using, if you have Ryzen 7 or 9 3xxx series you should definitely follow this video.

      I too had the 2600 with a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black cooler that idled at 22C and never went past 60. It was a pre-built I bought about a year ago and 2 weeks ago I decided to build my first PC. I gave the pre-built to my little brother and bought the 3700X for my CPU. The 50 - 60C idle temps with the prism cooler and PBO enabled were very concerning to say the least because it was so different.
      I tried to re-seat the cooler with similar temperature results. I decided to look into it and the 3000 series runs hotter than the previous generation. I don't know if the jumps from base clock to 4.3ghz are supposed to happen as frequently as they do but it's a common thing. The behavior of 3000 series CPU's with PBO enabled kind of reminds me of how GPU's run because they overclock on their own and run on high, all cores depending on the work load until they reach 85C and than start to throttle.
      I realized that the Prism cooler while ok it isn't enough to dissipate heat fast enough to keep this cpu from thermal throttling if the CPU is under 100% load with PBO enabled. It can also be pretty loud. While at Micro Center I came a cross a 240mm Cooler Master AIO for 75 bucks and bought it. With PBO enabled the idle temps stay around 30 - 40C now and when rendering videos @ 100% load the temps hover around 65C. I tried an overclock of 4.4 ghz all cores with 1.25V and 75C was the highest I seen the temps go while rendering.
      Long story short (I know not really lol) it turns out that higher cpu temps is within spec for these cpu's. Coming from the 2000 series of CPU's it does cause concern but it's within spec. The better the cooler the more you can keep these cpu's from hitting that 85C thermal throttle temps depending on the cpu load.

    I've just built a system with the Ryzen 7 3600x and the idle temp fluctuates between 58C and 69C, more often at the higher end around 65C. Is this normal? I don't really wanna spend anymore money on a new fan. When installing the CPU I did struggle with installing the fan a bit though and the thermal paste got a bit thinned out due to moving the fan around, could this be contributing to the high temps?

What's your motherboard (I see you have an x570, I have an MSI b450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC) ?Obviously an AIO is not being used considering you're featuring the wraith prism (which I also use, at high speed rpm). My 3700x on all cores at 4.2ghz never goes beyond 60 degrees celsius. Period. My case has 6 140mm fans...very good intake airflow from the front (mesh).

    A few points I'd like to make... I'm running a 3700x, bone stock, with a Noctua NH-U14S cooler, and my CB20 score runs about 4,900. Not sure why your scores are so low... When you want to test temperatures, you need to run Prime95 Small FFTs - not Blend. Blend starts out with a large FFT, which doesn't generate nearly the heat a small FFT does... When you overclock to 4.2 GHz, you are losing your boost speeds, which can be as high as 4.5 GHz. This will improve your heavy workload scores, but any load that doesn't run all your cores at full throttle will be lower, because none of your cores will boost beyond 4.2 GHz. You need to run some lighter workload benchmarks... And finally, just because your system boots and can run some programs at 4.2 GHz/1.35 volts does not mean it is truly stable. You need to run several hours of tests, using several different kinds of workloads, to verify your overclock - Prime95 Blend, OCCT, Blender, etc...

  • @willgart1
    @willgart1 5 років тому +1

    sorry, but you have not changed or forced the voltage, its still in auto mode.
    you can cool down the CPU by just setting up a delta of -0.1 volt setting.
    so, for exemple, when the cpu needs 1.33v, the -0.1 will results in 1.23v
    and you can keep the automatic frequency activated instead of fixing at 4.2ghz.
    for 4.2 you can certainly do this undervoltage and be even cooler... or undervolt and increase the frequency.
    also, in my case, I'm using the ryzen master tool to control this.
    no need to reboot (except the -0.1 volt setting)
    I can switch from a cool or PBO profile, to an intensive profile (4.35ghz all core for my 3700x, which is insame and with the default cooler!!!) without any reboot.
    with all the bios and AMD drivers up to date, its even better now.

    • @Britec09
      @Britec09  5 років тому

      ?? the voltage setting is in manual mode, at 1.35 volts, that is unvolting. Take no notice of the offset like I said in the video, its set to manual. If you just undervolt, you lose a lot of benchmark score.

    • @willgart1
      @willgart1 5 років тому

      @@Britec09 the 1.35v in the video is for the RAM.
      the CPU itself is set to offset mode without any offset value setup.
      at 5:41
      ua-cam.com/video/FmuSVnciFTo/v-deo.html
      which is automatic voltage (+ or - an offset value you choose), not manual / fixed voltage.
      well... we see later that the voltage for the CPU moves and its not a fixed value.
      but its interesting to see the voltage setup by the system for a fixed 4.2ghz frequency.
      also I notice that you have not setup the fabric clock (flck) to 1600 to matches the dram speed, so its not guarantee that this speed will matches the dram (and its certainly not the case, I have the same motherboard, and the fabric speed in auto is not good)
      for me this results in a difference of 2GB/s (down from 45gbs to 43gbs) in memory benchmarks
      and up to 47gbps after overclocking the ram from 1600mhz to 1666mhz

      well ya the stock coolers aren't meant for OCing anything so if you OCed with a stock cooler then your fault

    my 3700x did 4600 with the wraith prism in cinebench r20 but it was realy noisy and the rpm where all over the place aswell the temps jump 10°C from one sec to the other ... now that i changed it with an 240 AIO from coolermaster the idle temps are 30-45 and load 60-75max .... still the cores are realy temperature sensitify even on watercooling

    Great video! Seeing similar with my 3700X and Gigabyte Aorus Pro. Using a 360 AIO and temps are still in the low 40s for idle. Stock cooler was horrible for fan noise constantly ramping up and down. Built a friend's 3900x with Gigabyte MB and seemed much cooler. Noctua U12 Chromax as cooler. Going to try the 4.2 and undervolt on my system!

      Well same here idles at 38-42 fluctuating.
      Ambient temperature is 30-32
      And thats in a 420mm radiator 27mm thick open loop.
      But 3x nvme gen3 m.2 is running inside the loop.
      When I use blender in a 1.25v test @ 4.2ghz all core PBO off LCC 3 soc volt auto (if I tweak it it will not post).
      Max temp in blender test of prime95 us 85-91 degree running for 12hrs+ straight.

      Stock cooler is decent it's a million times better than what Intel gives you.
      This wraith prism is as good as CM hyper 212 or DC Gammaxx 400 on single fan config.
      But the stock cooler fan is much more noiser well it's the real main issue of this fan.
      Here in my country people who uses stock wraith prism on 3700x idles near or above 50 degree and at summer it even reaches mid 50s or at noon time.
      That's why I'm also at 38-42 it keeps fluctuating a lot from 38 UpTo 42 degree's.
      But in cooling... Idle temp doesn't matter.. what matters is underload Max temps.
      Lowering max temp as possible will give you more performance.. and lower Max temp at Max performance further will give you silent system.

    Did you happen to see what your temps were in Ryzen Master?

    • @MrNoOne-fp5zi

      @Klip One negative according to few different sources and my set up, hw monitor reads higher temps than ryzen Master.

      @Klip One hwmonitor is a bit finnicky with Ryzen because it's giving instruction calls to the CPU, increasing the temps.

    Can anybody please explain this to me: I have a Ryzen 5 3600 overclock to 3.90 GHZ running with the stock cooler (stealth cooler) with 2 case fan (front fan in take, back fan exhaust fan and one side of the case open) as soon as I start the computer afterburner program tells me that the cpu temp is 120°F on startup, idle mode. Sometimes 130°F WTF? is it that the stock cooler sucks? Is it that Ryzen 3000 series cpus are just Hot Chips by default? I had a Ryzen 7 2700x and I had the same problem even with Prism Cooler I used to get 120-140 F temps.

    Silicon lottery tests show a 100% of 3800x's should hit 4.2ghz at 1.275v. You can undervolt even more cuz buildzoid did a fix voltage of 1.35 on his 3700x and it's already degrading. I'm currently running my 3800x at 4.2 at 1.275v

      The wraith prism is crap bro, I have 3700x and it was the same upto 79°c. Now using Arctic freezer 2 280m AIO and highest temps hit under load is 52°C its a brilliant cooler. No RGB but thats no big deal for me i have RGB on everything else plus it has the added advantage of a VRM cooling fan and all for only £70

    Temps on my 3900 are high for me. I would be freaking out if my old CPU ran that hot at idle. Then again, it was 4 core 8 thread. Though overclocked to 4.75 Ghz all core. 45 C idle with my 3900x. I may return it for a 3700 or 3800. I don't want to spend the cash for a decent loop to just keep the damn thing cool!
