Winning cures any attendance problems for most schools. Either way, it's awesome to have BYU in the Big 12. Classy program with wonderful fans. Let's go K.S.U.
I went to TCU game in I believe in 2014. It was the first time 2 top 10 teams played at TCU. The seats by me were empty, and I bet 20,000 people there were K-Staters. Stadium only holds like 42,000.
BYU was hated in the WAC and MWC, always throwing their weight around. They think they’re Texas. TCU fans know all the love fest with BYU will be short.
@@contactmarkdavis BYU was hated in the MWC because they literally won over 50% of all conference championships across all sports during the years they were in the conference. Check the mwc website if you don't believe me. If BYU threw their weight around at all, it is because the conference leadership, Craig Thompson in particular, was a clown who broke multiple promises to BYU specifically regarding media, and generally treated BYU like garbage. BYU is in no danger of winning anywhere close to 50% of championships in the BIG12. As a result, I think the likelihood that they will be hated (resented) like they were in the wac and mwc are slim. BYU does not think they are texas. BYU is grateful to be in the BIG12 and will be a team player in the conference. Gary Pattersons irrational hatred for BYU, (and tcu's attitude, by extension) was puzzling to me. I believe his kids actually went to BYU. He may even have one enrolled there now. Good luck to the frogs. All the BYU fans I know were rooting for them this year.
WCC teams (except Gonzaga & St. Mary’s) doubled their single ticket prices at all of their BYU BB games. Didn’t matter, most of their Arena/Field Houses became home or 50/50 games for the Cougars. It’s okay, if we have to buy two tickets, we will just give them away to the fans for what ever Big 12 visiting team it is.
TCU is a small private school. Most of the other schools in the conference are large universities with huge fan bases. With DFW being one of the largest metro areas in the country, this makes opposing fans taking over a real possibility. No problem with what they're doing.
@Vinyl LP Reviews you were in a hotel. You had on K St garb, so they knew you were a K St fan. Since they were in a hotel, they were likely from out of town too and just didn't know. Go figure. You could have been heading to Dallas, Denton, or Waco, and not down the street. They didn't read you mind that you were 2 miles from the stadium destination. You also could have been heading to Jerry World for one of the national neutral ground games played there all the time. I saw LSU beat TF out of Miami there a couple years ago. You are trying too hard to troll.
Big 12 teams being scared of BYU behaving like Nebraska is not my take away from this. I am a Texas Tech fan and TCU has been doing this to us for years. Last year I had to pay $500 to sit in a half empty stadium that was supposedly sold out. This is less about BYU being a juggernaut (but still a very respectable fan base) and more about TCU's fan weakness. When Tech played them last year they were obviously undefeated and a top 10 team. There's No other team in the Big 12 that wouldn't be selling out every game if they were in that situation.
That reminds me of something that happened when the Cornhucksters and Misery were both Big 12 teams. One year when the Hucksters were playing in Columbia, Misery ran a desperate series of ads titled "Stop the Red Storm" trying to get its fans to buy the remaining home tickets before Nebraska fans could. Actually, it's not that much of a problem, as it allows home games against the team with the nationwide rabid fans to be more profitable in ticket sales than would otherwise be the case!
Fun to see BYU in the Big 12 discussions. As a BYU fan, I'm thrilled they're joining the conference - and all the fun, positioning, and new rivalries that come with it.
On a side note living in SLC and having BYU in the big12 means I hopefully will make a few k state games in the next couple of years. It’s a two way street albeit less so in many locations with new teams joining.
Okay. You have trouble filling your stadium, so when there is a game that will bring in a ton of fans, you decide to punish those fans with forced bundling or higher costs? If you set up barriers to keep opposing fans out, are you going to adversely affect the total number of tickets sold?
The problem isn't that TCU can't fill the stadium. The last few years they've had problems with people buying season tickets only to sell them to opposing fans on marketplaces. If you read TCU's statement, it mentions that they're trying to combat the resellers and putting a few other measures in place.
What TCU is doing re: BYU game isn't that much different from what other P5 programs have done in recent years. That said, I'm sure TCU wouldn't be overly thrilled if Amon Carter Stadium turned into Provo Southeast when the Cougars come calling, but at the end of the day, it's more revenue than if it were, say, Tarleton State.
TCU has been doing this for a while, the attendance was great last year after being less than stellar on the field the last 3 - 4 years. They continue to put a quality product on the field and attendance will be great. The tickets they bunch together are not expensive and I have yet to hear of someone losing their money if they buy the 3 pack, TCU can't stop anyone from selling their tickets on the secondary market. Probably a decent investment to be honest.
Big deal. I love a full stadium even if it’s filled with the other teams fans. All any team needs to do is win. A stadium filled with your opponents fans that are getting thrashed will be a quite stadium.
As a lifelong K State fan (65) let me say this: I know BYU fans, BYU fans are friends of mine, let me tell you something Nebraska fans are not BYU fans, more politely BYU fans are good people NU not so much.
Guessing you live in or near Manhattan so you probably have lots of huskers fans around. Are they really "not so good people" or do they just rib you over sports?
Back in the old days I knew several folks who had a pair of season tickets to not only the Huskers but also the Wildcats, Jayhawks, Cyclones, or any other Big 8 school. They would just buy them for the Nebraska game and donate the others to a local veterans home or someplace like that
TCU is garbage. They did this to Tech and oklahoma last year. Both schools have huge alumni bases in the metroplex. The year before, in basketball, when Tech played in Austin, they made up about 40% of the crowd and then TCU decided to pull this crap. One suggestion was, purchase the package and let them eat the loss in concession and parking sales for the other game. Might actually be cheaper than buying something on the secondary market anyway.
Please don't comment on TCU when you know nothing about us. We sell just fine and travel well too. Ask Michigan. Ask Georgia. We have an amazing stadium-one of the best-and we have a duty to keep it purple and filled with frog fans. And for one of the smallest D1 schools in a power conference we've been amazing as demonstrated by our nationwide TV audience (#23 in the nation).
TCU doesn’t need advice on managing it’s stadium which is 99% full. It is TCU’s 3rd time around with BYU. TCU makes a good deal for a smaller package of games for their fans. Tech or BYU can buy the package or watch on TV. Amon Carter will be full of Frog fans.
The second you guys start losing games next year you’ll see how fickle your entire fan base is! I’ve seen that stadium half empty more times than I can even remember
That game, most likely to host a post-game brawl. Christians vs. Mormons. As for Nebraska, they had the ugliest uniforms of the 1960s. probably gave them a psychological advantage because opponents eyes would glaze over.
Osu has done that for yrs with the Gooners game. Can’t get it unless you buy season tickets. Does this keep the goons out, no. Not completely. The Secondary market lets them buy.

Was asked in the elevator on the way to the game, who does K-State play today?

This is precisely why former commissioner Bob Bowlsby referred to BYU as a no brainer and a “money shot”. At the end of the day, it’s a win win.
Look at videos of BYU at Baylor two years ago. It was a bowl game almost.
BYU fan here! We are happy to buy more tickets to each of the Big 12 venues. After all, we are all now Big 12 fans. Go Big 12!

OSU has done this for years with uo and the whorns. They linked getting tickets to these games to season tickets. All about dollars, as always.
TCU got this from Chris Del Conte

Not sure I care for the exclusionary idea.
TCU does it to prevent scalping. Just like Texas and other quality athletic departments around the country. Keep hating Prarie Aggy.
Maybe if your fans would buy the tickets they wouldn’t have to do this crap… btw how does it feel to not be big 12 champs?
