- Do you remember FurReal Friends!? This toy line was popular in the 2000s and allowed for kids to experience owning their very own "life-like" pet without the mess! Robotic pets have been around since the 90s and I always thought they were super interesting as a kid. From Tamagotchi, to Furbies, to Poo-Chis...everyone wanted their own virtual or robotic pet toy! FurReal Friends had so many cool toys...like Butterscotch the Pony or Biscuit the dog! But what happened to them? Join me on a deep dive into this fun toy line!

I owned butterscotch! I grew up on a farm with lots of horses, and my sister did professional barrel racing for many years. When I was little, I wanted a horse as well but my parents were concerned my small size would make it dangerous for me to ride one. So instead, they got me butterscotch! Me and my sister loved her very much, and we had her for years 😊. We played with her so often she eventually stopped working 😂. We still have her blanket which we pull out whenever it's a bit colder in the basement living room. Her legacy lives on in my house for sure ☺ !
@@phelinmelon1007 omg this is such a cute story! 🥹 butterscotch was that girl 🐴🩷
I still have my baby butterscotch. Got her on my 10th birthday and I just turned 20 in december 😭💕💕
NOOOO I can't believe you called Biscuit creepy!! I had him as a child and I don't think he ever woke up in the middle of the night! He was very cute and my absolute favourite
If anything the newer lineup of the cartoony looking chimps creeped me out. 😆
Thank you! My uncle got me Biscuit for Christmas the year it came out since I wanted a dog but my parents didn’t, and I loved it so much. I remember spending a lot of time just sitting and playing and talking to/hugging Biscuit. Not once did I ever find it creepy and I don’t remember it waking up in the middle of the night either! Legitimately one of my favorite Christmas gifts ever, especially since I fell and broke a tooth that Christmas so Biscuit helped cheer me up lmao
I remember taking pictures of me and biscuit on my DSi 😭 i brought him with me on road trips and fed him chocolate and bubblegum so his mouth got permanently stained LOL
@@prettieplural lol I’m sorry! 😭 I think it was just the size of him throwing me off
As a kid I never liked the toys with the unrealistic proportions, especially the large glass eyes, if it was toonie, i preferred the embroidered look, or they'd creep me out lol
I remember wanting one of the fur real friends, but I always thought they were crazy expensive so I didn't ask, but it's very weird to me to give strictly cutesy toys to kids because not all kids.. Are into it. It kills like half the market because there is an appeal to get something close to a real animal without the same challenges. The early 2000s also pushed more of a preparing for the future angle, and eco/conservation, which maybe because I'm not a kid anymore, but I don't see when passing by the toy aisle, which again shows more of a general "what sells the most?" angle rather than "what can kids learn from this?" which really sucks given how many issues have arisen with lack of appropriate tools, and even small things like toys can alter the narrative a bit
@@inner-lynx5732 that’s an interesting perspective I didn’t think of! I can definitely see that. & I agree I was never really a fan of the more stylized look either…felt almost “too childish” even though…I was a child lol
That's so true
That's a really good point! Toys and media mostly moved away from trying to be educational and beneficial to children's development
I remember how popular the newborn puppies and kittens were with me and my sisters and cousins. They captured the likeness and cuteness of newborn animals better than any other toy I've seen. Everyone else - including modern Fur Real Friends - seems to use highly stylized cartoon babies as their reference point instead of actual babies, and it just doesn't trigger the "must protect and cuddle" instinct at all.
Also, Go-go and Squawkers were both so fun. The latter somehow survived all these years in a closet and I got to show her to my niece and nephew, who had a blast making her copy the things they said.
Omg that’s so cute 😭 I agree with the newborns!! They really looked like real puppies/kittens!
My best friend had the fluffy white cat growing up and I remember being SO jealous of it! They were really popular at our elementary school and I loved seeing the cheesy commercials!!
@@cattygodessoftime aw yes the commercials were iconic!!
I had the big white cat too that I got for Christmas in 1st Grade in Christmas 2002!
Lol having my selling demo footage being here caught me off guard a little haha! Gogo from my video is still for sale since no one seems to want her sadly even though she's very cute. I grew up with the reproduction version of the kitten from 2006 and still have her to this day. I do collect FurReals sometimes and I believe there are good newer pets just as good as the OGs. There's Tyler the tiger and Plum the panda whom I do like as well as Daisy the cat. There's recently been a repro made of the OG Biscuit dog sold at Costco and the Joy For All pets which are repros of Cookie and Lulu but higher quality aimed at the elderly (own the "Cookie" one). Thank you for covering these amazing robots!
Thank you for also posting ab them as well! 😊😊 keeps the nostalgia alive ✨
Had Biscuit for about a week. I loved him, he was the best Christmas present I’d ever gotten (up until then ofc). But he started malfunctioning, nothing bad, he just couldn’t perform tricks properly and would sit, stand and lay down basically whenever he wanted lol. My mum wanted to take him back. I don’t blame her now, because I can only imagine the money she spent, but I fought HARD to keep him. I didn’t care that he couldn’t do tricks properly, I didn’t mind that when I went to bed he’d be laying down and when I woke up he’d be standing. I had no choice in the end though, but she did promise I could pick out something else for the same amount. I ended up with a robotic Pinkie Pie in a tutu (gen 3), I loved her, but she wasn’t the same as Biscuit. My childhood heart still misses my Biscuit, even if it seemed like he had some sort of sentience lmfao
Aww it’s so sweet you connected with Biscuit like that 🥹🩷 sounds like you had some nice memories together even if it wasn’t for too long!
awww 🥺 I probably would've fought to keep him too tbh. Maybe someday you can find another Biscuit C:
(Also the Pinkie toy you mentioned, I want that sooo bad 😭)
As a 2010 kid, Im jealous of y’all’s realistic furreals!
Same 😭
same i always disliked how cartoony mine was
I remember begging for (and receiving) the 2003 GoGo My Walkin’ Pup. I also remember my parents thinking this was ridiculous because, in 2003, we also adopted an actual, alive, for-real Maltese puppy.
I wonder why they were branded more as a girl toy than a boy toy
For the same reason they brand baby dolls as girls only
Probably the nurturing aspect
Boys like to nurture animals also tho
Boys also like to nurture animals tho
@Kaminoboi I know that but these companies can't seem to get it through their thick skulls
I remember seeing teens and adults playing with the Butterscotch and Smores horses when setup at Walmart for the Christmas season. My dad would see me stroking their head like a real horse and say, "Ha ha, would you like Santa to bring you that horse for Christmas?" "Daaaaaaaaaaaaaad! I'm 19! I was just "seeing how it worked!" Always had my heart set on a meerkat Fur Real friend...wonder why they never released one after Meerkat Manor hype?
I had Bouncy (14:30), but one day she just disappeared. I might have been too young to remember what happened to her.
I had the cheapest one I think, it was the chipmunk. My mom was poor of course but that didn't stop her from getting me one. Eventually he died, so I cut him open to see the inside. I did have quite a few zhu zhu pets tho, my favorite was a husky.
They should change back I’d love the realistic ones back because it’s more realistic and it would make playing and taking care of them more realistic then what it’s now or they should combine them making the pet toys more realistic like cute and realistic they should and I think we have the hamster toy it was white and blue with a pink nose
Yes I agree it would be cool to see at least them release one realistic one & see how it goes! :)
Yea like what’s the worst thing that could happen they were popular then so
I had a butterscotch. I asked for that thing EVERY SINGLE DAY after i saw the ad on TV. My parents got it for me, for Christmas when i was 10
What an iconic Christmas present 🥰
I personally like the more realistic furreal friends. I might be bias since i had the white cat when i was little but these chibi/ neonatal looking ones look just like any other toy. They get tossed into the toy pile and forgotten with all the other stuffed animals instead of being played with and engaged with.
This bringings back so many memories! I had the golden retriever FurReal (the small one not the big one) and I still loved it even when the batteries died, I think it was because it looked so much like a real dog to child me.
Right! They really felt so real like your very own pet 🥹
I remember seeing ads/commercials for FurReal Friends. I always wanted one but it never happened. I was today years old when I remembered them.
They were literally hidden away in my subconcious 🤯
@@maiafaithtalks Same!
13:54 THATS WHAT THOSE ARE!!!! I was OBSESSED with mine as a kid!!! I remember me and my older sister getting them at the dollar store, I had an orange cat, she had a blue- thing? I forget, I loved those things so much bro 😭
I got the macaw a few years back on marketplace for 45 after constantly searching for one for years. I collect robot toys and robots and I love this one.
I have mixed opinions on the newer ones, I find the lifelike ones are much cooler
I feel the same!
this is such an interesting video! as someone who grew up playing with a lot of these toys its super cute to look back on it now that we're older. keep posting this stuff, love your vibe ♡
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed 😊
The best way I can describe this change is, basement with a brown couch and carpeted floors to white tiled bedroom with pink and teal curtains
Memory unlocked, I used to beg my mom for Gogo and Biscuit, but toy robots were just too expensive for us at the time. Also I gotta say, as a dog owner (after begging for the first 15 years of my life lol), Biscuit waking up and barking in the middle of the night would be able incredibly realistic
i like the more realistic look for FurReal friends as it makes you think your caring for an animal and not just a uncanny creepy robot toy, i would love the old designs to make a comeback but thats quite unexpected. i also feel the newer cartoony designs make it look kinda scary in a way, like in the middle of trying to be a real looking pet and not at the same time.
this is my first video from the channel and I'm definitely glad it was. great video.
I always thought it was called "FurReal" because the fur on them was real. It took me too long to realize it was a pun lol
7:39
My brother had (and still has) that damn chimp.
It scared the fuck outa me.
Didn’t help that he lost the banana bottle thing for it so we would use our fingers to “feed” it 💀
I never had many furreal friends only the little small kittens and puppies where you pet them and they wag their tail.
Im also kind of sad they always seem to changed realistic looking toys to cartoony 😔 like I dont mind the beanie boos but for webkinz & furreal friends I liked them cause of how semi-real they were
@@mikaluvspower ugh yes the change to webkinz was also sad!! 😭
Aaaa childhood memory unlocked! Thank you for this video!
Of course!! I’m so happy to unlock those memories for you 🥰
As a 90's kid I remember tamagotchi's they were insanely expensive soo I got 101 Dalmatians tamagotchi from toys r us for $15 back then mostly because it was still tamagotchi but just cheaper. Had it for a long time & ended up giving it to my younger cousin back then. I also remember when they released tamagotchi in mcdonald's happy meals. I ended up having 6 or 7 from happy meals & put a few on my backpack & someone at school asked if I had a tamagotchi I showed them the one on my backpack~ 😂😂😂 Unfortunately they knew it was the mcdonald's happy meal version~ 🤦♀️🤣 I also had a furby in 1999 when they were popular (my dad got me the giraffe colored one). I was told in elementary school that mine was recalled for supposedly being defective. The furby my dad got me was new in the box from toys r us & did work just had an odd smell which I never figured out what caused the smell & I could not for the life of me get my furby out of baby talk mode. Talked to him plenty but he always babbled then every once in a great while he would say a word I could actually understand in english~ 🤣 I also had the robo puppy in the early 2000's but waited until walmart put them on clearance back then & got mine for $15. Mcdonald's also released a mini version of the puppy as well if not mistaken. 🤷♀️ That was pretty much the end of robotic pets for me until about 20 years later. I fell in love with the newer furreal puppies you walk on a leash with a big head. They drive my pet cockatiel nuts going past his bird cage either barking or meowing~ 😂😂😂
I saw videos of Biscuit being on the shelves again last year. Updated packaging, but the dog is exactly the same. It surprised me that they didn’t make a big deal out of rereleasing one of their most popular classics. I’m thinking they probably had some overstock they needed to get rid of.
Wait whaaaaat!? That’s crazy I had no clue! I saw there had been a remake but I thought it was another stylized version of him?
i remember seeing someone playing with the white cat thats sitting up at a yard one time and i absolutely needed it i begged my mom for it but she didnt end up finding that one so i got the lulu cat for christmas instead i was a little disappointed bc it was laying down bur i still absolutely loved her and was so happy and i still have her on top of my closet just chilling there
Aww so sweet! :)
LOL. I had 2012 GoGo! The nostalgia of these toys is insane XD
Right! 😭
@ OH AND I HAD THAT SKATEBOARDING DOGGO. I think FurReal made it? I had it back in like 2015-2017 so it's been a hot minute. (it was like a white doggo on a pink skateboard and it had a paw-shaped controller where you could like make the skateboard go fowards or backwards and even spin in a circle)
@@maiafaithtalks the fact that half of furreal friends toys are forgotten such a shame they worked hard on them and this is what they get?
As soon as I heard LPs I knew I was gonna WACH the hole video
I LOVED FurReal Friends growing up, I think I had a couple of Furry Frenzies, a bunny, a chimp, and a chipmunk at some point! I think some of the newer ones are cute, but they're not my style.
Some video Ideas:
-ZHUZHU PETS!!!! I love those things, I still have my hamsters stored somewhere, I think it would be cool to hear you talk about the pets, toylines, and fandom
-Tamagotchi and Virtual Pets in general
-Furby
-iDog
@@NumNumsGlasses completely fair! & yes those toys will definitely be on the list :) 🫶🏼
I've never owned a FurReal friend but this is so interesting !! I don't think i'd be down to own one if I was a kid now LOL
I remember having Lulu the cat, tiger the cat, Butterscotch the horse and Gogo the dog as a kid
All amazing ones 👏🏼
I remember the parrot one was accidentally left behind at my old job as a house keeper. It stayed a bit until the owns came and got it back.
The parrot one is super cool! 🩷
I never had one, but my grandma did. She can't have pets, so she had a little Fur Real puppy she jokingly said was her puppy.
How cute!! ☺️
Okay but that dinosaur was EPIC 😮😮
I got a FurReal Friends White Tiger cub for one of my birthdays when I was little and I remember bouncing of the walls in excitement. My baby had to go with me everywhere and I was so concerned of not taking care of her well enough lmao
I have a couple of them the white walking cat, the newborn Dalmatian puppy, the chipmunk 🐿️, the McDonald’s toy puppy, and the Burger King toy pony.
I had the baby parrot toy from 2008. I really wanted a pet bird when I was younger but I couldn't have one because we had a cat. so my dad got the toy for me for my birthday. And now so many years later I have my own two budgies
Wow, I loved it when the Butterscotch commercial would come on! I had zhu zhu pets but gave them away because I quickly got over them, but I still have my 3 FRF toys today.
Aww that’s awesome! Biscuit seems very popular 🥰
I had Squawkers, the 2009 GoGo, and Lulu! Still have Squawkers and Lulu, but I'm not sure about GoGo. I loved how realistic they were, especially Squawkers! I was obsessed with him, especially haha. Lulu sits on a chair to this day because it always makes people second-guess if it's a real cat!
When I was seven or eight years old, I got a baby parrot one as a present for a language test score and I still remember that my aunt got it from a kinda popular school supplies store from our town where they used to sell some Hasbro toys and, as Furreal Friends weren't that common nor that accesible where I live, most of the oldest employees from this store still identify as the "parrot gal" to this day :)
That is such a cute story omg 😭🦜🩷
I had both Biscuit and Butterscotch! I looooved them both so much, Biscuit especially
Totally forgot I had the baby tiger furr real friend! Loved that thing so much. I do remeber making my parents stop in the local Walmart so I could pet Butterscotch for as long as theyd let me.
That’s so cute omg!! I never saw a Butterscotch in the wild 😭
@maiafaithtalks the Walmart had it on full display. It was magical ✨️
8:28 oh my god my grandparents have that 😨 I didn’t even realize it was a robot, since I can remember it’s just been a giant toy horse that kinda just stand there a little scary, I’m a teen so I guess I was too late to live during the fur-real craze so I assumed it was just a big horse 😭 it’s still there and whenever I go I love to pet it
Aaaa I still have my Starlily (the unicorn shown at 15:46) I loved braiding her hair and feeding her, but I lost her sugarberry years ago. She's sitting on a shelf waiting for new batteries right now :)
I had one of the 2006 Chimps! I wanted Butterscotch, but living in a tiny apartment at the time, we couldn’t fit her. I also had Lucky the Incredible Wonder Pup, and now my real doggo is named Lucky through pure coincidence!
Ah yes. Back when Fur Real Friends used to be Fur Real. 😅 Not a fan of the new look. May as well change the brand to Fur Toon Friends instead.
Yea
Okay so true actually 😭
Y'all can't handle changes...
Or Little Cartoon Pets for Little Live Pets (that brand went through similar changes. I’m starting to notice a pattern…)
@startthefrakkenfangirl it’s not just that, it’s just that you can tell the companies put a lot more heart and thought into what THEY wanted their brand to be instead of trying to appeal to a large audience. Now everything has chibi eyes and stuff and it seems like they’re just following a trend.
FURREAL WIKI MENTIONED! I'm so proud to have joined that wiki and contribute to its growth!
I've been a big fan of FurReal Friends since I was a kid, even now owning and loving a varitable "zoo" of them! I still have my childhood Biscuit, along with Cuddles, Cubby and Starlily - my favorites, just to name a few. I agree, some of the latest FurReal toys don't have the same magic as the ones of old, but pets like Cubby and more recently Cinnamon, My Stylin' Pony bring a little magic of their own!
I'm not too sure about the Just Play era though. By first impressions, they have a long way to go before they get to Tiger Electronics' level.
@@silhouettoofaman2935 omg that’s awesome! That wiki helped me so much 🩷 I can definitely see the newer toys having their own special qualities ☺️☺️
The marketing also confused some of us as kids cuz everyone I knew who got butterscotch thought it actually walked around because of the ads and implications and stuff. One kid I knew who has butterscotch renamed it “rainbow turd” because their little sibling took to it with their craft supplies.
I remember getting the border collie scamps I loved him so much! Also I remember Butterscotch. I threw so many tantrums to try and get my Mum to cave into getting it for ne (I was a spoiled brat). Butterscotch was one of the few toys my Mum never caved on getting for me, which makes total sense cause if I remember correctly it was $200.
I had giggles, the 2014 gogo, a cat named daisy, and a panda named pom pom! They were so much fun!
Thank you for bringing back fond memories of my childhood and scamps
your first one of these being the panda bear baby one is wild because i had the same one and its the reason i clicked on this video; And then immediately jumping into the puppies being ones that you saw at other people's houses growing up was wild because that was the second thought I had as well, specifically one of my best friends had one
I still have my duckling, and she's been a part of my shelf since about 2013. I don't really remember how I played with her when I first got the duck, but over the years I've had dressed her up.
I had one of the lion cubs and I 100% forgot about it until you flashed the clip of them and I got agressivly thrown back into my childhood
Lulu My Cuddling Kitty is actually still available as the Joy for All "Companion Pet Cat". It's sold as a companion for people with Dementia or Alzheimer's. I also had Squawkers as a kid and recently looked them up to find they're actually pretty hard to find due to people using them to recreate Disney's Enchanted Tiki room.
I remember the commercial for Biscuit. The song pops into my head at random moments 😂
They were such catchy commercials!
YES!! finally someone talking about these! i adored furreal friends as a kid, i was a 2000s kid so i lived through their golden age, n was PRIMED to fall in love with them, i was just like you, OBSESSED with any virtual pet things i could get my hands on. that being said, i only ever owned ONE furreal friend, as getting any more would have been way too expensive for my family. it was a white tiger cub i got for christmas, and unfortunately i did have the exact same experience you described, at first so in love with it, did all i could, found all the ways to interact and then... it dawned on me. this toy was nice, and cute, but i could not find myself playing with it that much more after the first times. it was sad because i had dreamed of owning a furreal friend for so long and fantasized about what it would be like, and its not like it broke my expectations, but i guess i never had considered what it would feel to actually own one and what happened when the interactivity ran out.
i also desperately wanted a butterscotch pony lol, but now i thank my parents sanity in not only not spending insane amounts of money on it but also thinking about how impractical that thing would be to store. either way seeing what theyve done with the brand definitely saddens me. i dont think its impossible to say that kids nowadays couldnt like more realistic pets, first of all they havent tried, and second of all, it feels like one of those cases in which the market itself is so preoccupied with competing and coming up with more weird and exciting ideas it auto cannibalizes itself into an ouroboros of increasingly strange rebrands. so i dont think it is even kids wouldnt like them, its just that they havent been given the chance! i also feel like it COULD be possible to strike a balance between going for more realistic looks and keeping some fantasy elements, like what stops them from releasing buttersotch again but with white fur and a horn on top? nothing! but as stated before, brands now seem to believe that the more cartoony, sparkly, weird and eye catching you are, the more you will sell, and that being down to earth is a liability.
I’m so glad someone else understands my experience with this! I always felt so guilty as a kid if I didn’t fully enjoy a toy that I wanted. I agree with you! I do wonder if they released the original FurReal friends style today how that would go with kids! I think kids in general really like the experience of having their own pet so it might feel even more real to them than the cartoon style they’re now use to!
I had Butterscotch! My parents told me that I wasn’t getting her because she was too big to fit on Santa’s sleigh and surprised her with me on Christmas morning
She stayed in the house until I was like 19, and by then she had a broken jaw and a missing ear. RIP
For Christmas 2003 I got GoGo My Walking Pup. I was so excited when I opened it but then we put in batteries and she started moving. 5 year old me was horrified! Mom had to return it because I wouldn’t touch it. My step mom had a FurReal monkey I remember see in commercials of but like GoGo I was scared of it in person. It wasn’t until the Dress And Dance Dora two years later that I got over my fear of animatronic toys/dolls.
@@twilightozzylovelyrockocip8222 it’s so funny the things that scared us when we were little & we look back now & we’re like why was that so horrifying 😭 I definitely had toys that freaked me out like that too!
Omg!! I remember i had the lamb and the chipmunk as a kid... i also remember really wanting the squawkers parrot but my mom refused because quote "it would never shut the hell up" as if it was a real parrot and not a toy with batteries...
@@nostradoomus lol that’s so funny! The chipmunk & lamb were super cute 🩷
I had (still have in storage) MANY of the different FurReal Friends from the 2000s. It always makes me sad when I see the more recent models, as the realism was such a huge part of their magic back in the day (for me at least).
Lol the beanie boo rant ending (btw thats actually an beanie belly but whatever)
It’d be so sigma if you made a lps video since it was rebooted last year
The 2010’s were CRAZY with bright bold colors 😂
Personally my fav
I remeber having some of the Zuzu hamsters when i was little. I would let them race all the time! And honestly, In my opinion i absolutely HATE the change of Furreal friends, I just dont see the magic of having a Pet, and rather just a robot, I absolutely loved the "having a real pet that doesnt do messes" feeling, But now because of the realism removal, it just feels like owning a robot. 🤦♀️
I had butterscotch and I loved her I played with her nonstop
@@avarand9601 so cute!!
I have Butterscotch! I got her for Christmas I think when she came out. Unfortunately my older sister was scared of robots so I didn’t get to turn her on much, but I still played with her a ton! I still have her in my childhood room, which is not big so she takes up quite a bit of space but I can’t find it in my heart to get rid of her lol.
I was a lucky kid, i had Butterscotch 😎 he still works nowadays!! I gave him to my little sister!!
I have one of these, I think it was called Charlie The Chatting Beagle. He scared me A LOT when he said his i love you sentence.
Amazing video!! It needs more views
@@hellomanul aww thank you!! So glad you enjoyed ☺️
I owned ALOT of fur real friends growing up. As a kid with older parents I wanted a horse, cats, dogs, all kinds of stuff. We had a cat and 2 dogs, but being a very animal oriented girl who watched animal planet all the time it wasn't enough. I had the 2005/6 white laying down kitty even when she didn't work anymore I remember carrying her around and playing with her the way she was. I had lots of the little dogs, I had a baby lamb, and I had the Butterscotch!!
As a 7 year old I wanted a horse so insanely bad my parents caved and got me that for Christmas. The thing was really cool, but it took up alot of room.
I also wanted to mention that I 100% had the same issue with some of these toys. I feel the little fur real friend toys were alot more able to be played with and have more creativity with it because it is essentially an interactive stuffed animal, and I am a stuffy addict still to this day so those toys were very enjoyable for me, even the babies with the bottles. The bigger the toys got, the less ability to move them around, oe if they are in an awkward position they became alot less likely to be played with
Buttercup on the other hand was different from all the other toys i bought. I never had one so large. Yeah you can feed her interact with her and "ride her" but after that there wasn't hardly anything else to do with her and as a kid who wanted to go outside or run around the toy wasn't made to be moved around. Eventually my mom donated it to good will and now seeing online if I kept it, it would sell for 500 bucks! Back then we didn't have selling websites or anything so it's not her fault for not seeing that in the future. I feel if my parents got me the giant biscuit it would be the same issue
Personally I was alot more into buying a stuffed animal that I could play with on a virtual world website like webkins or "adopt me pets"
I do feel the newer toys just do not have that same charm anymore. The fantasy ones are really cool, but I can see in the future robotoic toys will integrate with AI. It'll be quite interesting to see that!
Yes!! 😂😂 I remember the funky eye dancing robot thing!! There were SO many in thriftstores when I was a kid lol
Well, these are super nostalgic to me❤❤ I had the chimp baby, the parrot, the happy meal toys, and I think the duckling at some point. I distinctly remember my brother and I “skinning” the baby chimp’s rubber face off out of either pure curiosity or downright evil… 😅💀
I’m a parent now, and I can say for my kids, they really don’t mind either way. They love cartoony animals a lot, but they also love the realistic toy pets too. I got them a realistic puppy toy for Christmas and they love it and treat it so gently. It’s really sweet. I do think there’s a difference in affection between the realistic toys and the not realistic. For instance, I’ve never seen them chuck the realistic puppy at a wall for fun, or seen them leave it on the floor like other toys. Maybe it does help teach kids pet care when they look real?
That’s a really interesting thought! I never considered that with the realism vs cartoon style. I also saw some FurReal Friend skinning videos on UA-cam while I was researching this topic 💀
Since I was born in 2010, I got the new versions of the fur real friends. They’re cute and all but the older ones are so much more fun and would’ve probably worked better against my want for an actual pet. Old gogo will forever be better than the one with extremely large eyes that I had.
I had way more of these than I initially remember. The original cat, 2 newborn kittens, love cub panda, and I wanted that pony so badly. I always asked my parents for real pets so they got me Furreal Friends
Aww those are all such cute ones to have! :)
I always thought the horse one was the first one. I had a few of the kittens but I remember getting the monkey one year for christmas and that was the BEST one ever it would also sometimes turn om in the middle of the night and wake me up lol
I owned a newer Biscuit, I forget a lot abt it, but I loved it sooooo much. It was more of the cartoony style, and I had the app on my tablet too! (I really loved this thing) Its neck broke and it didn't work anymore, so I had to get rid of it, I'm still upset about it because it wasn't my fault!! I want the first version of Biscuit, I honestly think it's really cute, and it sounds fun :D
Every so often I go on a Butterscotch rabbithole, I always wanted one so bad, but I did have a Zambi elephant that I played with pretty much every day til he broke, I loved that thing, but I always wanted the massive Butterscotch and still do. It's awesome seeing someone finally go down the FurReal Friends rabbithole, ive always wanted someone to go into it. I've always loved animals and robots ever since i was a kid, so FurReal friends fit two niches for me.
I remember going into a Tous R Us recently and I was so disappointed to see barely any shelf space for FurReal, but also the quality of them was so low. I hate the new style personally too, half the appeal was thag the toys were so realistic
5:12 to 5:20
It’s funny how they get less and less realistic as time progressed 💀
15:43 I have him too!! Of course I got Torch. He’s a dragon. Dragons are awesome 🤩
I didn't own butterscotch. But if my memory serves me right, my cousin owned Smores. I LOVED riding Smores. There's a photo of me riding him, and I would often beg my poor aunt and cousin to bring him out, or even carry him upstairs so I could ride him. When my cousin got older, they gave him away, and put frankly, I was HEARTBROKEN. He was so real to me.
Also, I'd like to add, that as a child, that thing was HUGE. I definitely envision him as much bigger that he was, even now. But when I look at the pictures, I can't help but laugh. He's definitely pony sized, and big compared to me at the time, but looking back now, he definitely seemed bigger back then.
Ps. I also have, and still have, Cookie. But I guess I didn't realize his name was on the box, or I didn't like it (My cousin also got the same one, so that could've influenced it). So his name is Gabriel, since I got him on Christmas
I don't remember a time where I didn't have a pet,I had 2 dogs,1 cat and I had a bird, but she died from a broken leg,and before them I had a pet cat when I was a baby and he helped me learn how to walk, even before I was born mom and dad had pet cats, and even right now I have 2 cats (and one out door who is a stray but we feed him so he keeps mice away,so we sorta have 3 cats) so I don't think I had a problem most kids had begging for a pet, cause I've always had a pet or 2 my entire life
I did have a furreal friends toy though a black and white cat,I loved it,I also had poochie,I remember him being alittle complicated,I don't remember much about him but I think he came with a remote with commands on it and cause I was a kid I didn't really understand them so I think mom and dad helped me alot with poochie, actually it might've been a different robot dog toy,but it's weird he resemble poochie though so honestly I don't know what I'm talking about now, can't find the robot doggy I had
Like you I also found their play potential limited outside of the commands and novelty. I think a lot of it had to do with their lack of plushness because of the solid robot inside and the fact I was always taught I had to be very careful with mine incase I broke it. So my fur real friends stayed at home and didnt really come on adventures or experience any rougher play.
I miss the original fur real friends! I had the puppy and bunny ones! I adored those!!
I actually had (and still do have) a tiger version of the simba one! he can't really talk anymore but he can still move! I had no idea it was intially a lion lol heck there was a toys-r-us version of it iirc
This brought back so many memories for me. I remember seeing the Chimp in commercials and wanting it so badly. But I did have the newborn piglet and protected it like it was my child - seriously. Adult me is super curious what these "high tech" toys cost back in the day. Especially the more life sized ones like Butterscotch.
I had the piglet too bc one of my friends didn’t want it anymore so I took it & I loved it! 🥰 also I think they were all pretty expensive at the time especially Butterscotch 😵💫
Man, I was in high school in 2002. I feel old
Iconic time to be in highschool 🩷
20 years later and im still hung up on butterscotch & smores horses. I wanted nothing more in the world but them. I memorized the WHOLE commercial at around age 4 despite not even knowing how to speak english back then. I REALLY need to buy them for closure now that i’ve got adult money…but they are too large to ship overseas….
I eventually got gifted a baby butterscoth tho. She’s still displayed in my living room till this day. But she’s not the original butterscotch…😭
if anyone is willing to ship their child size robot horses to thailand…please…i need you😭😭😭
I had biscuit and I loved her. I remember we also had the new one of the newborn pups and one of the newborn kittens and then later for one of my birthdays, my classmate got me a gray bunny for real friend
I have so many of these! Great memories and video❤❤
Thank you!! 😊🩷
You forgot the baby tigers
i used to have a full collection of fureal friends
i had butterscotch at one point, but at some point she broke :(
7:31 holy heck!!! I was wondering what the heck that panda bear baby was.
As an adult my dream furreal, is a Nessie...dont ask me why lol AND! she has to be huge too, a bit bigger then butterstoch!
I had an old baby bunny, the white cat and a beagle. God i loved furreal friends. These new ones just creep me the fuck out tho.
