    I’ve been doing my own oil changes for over 40 years and I never though to use a zip lock bag over the oil filter. Great idea! Looking forward to not making a mess next time. Thanks!

    I use the 2x Zip Lock bag method, 1 or 1/2 gallon works well. I break the oil filter seal, turn it about 1/2 turn, slip on the first bag and continue loosening until the oil starts to pour into the first bag. I wait about 30 seconds until the oil stops, slip off the first bag into a waiting shallow pan I have to the right of me. I slip on the 2nd bag, and then continue to unscrew the filter until it's off, wait about 10 seconds after the filter comes off to catch any of the oil in the oil filter mount. Drop that 2nd bag into the pan I have right next to me and done. Zero drips, no mess.

    A tip for you since you keep your stuff clean. Harbor freight sells an oil change funnel kit. It comes with screw in adapters for filler opening then the funnel locks into that. No need to worry about it flopping around when the weight of the oil is in it. Comes with lids to keep out dirt when not in use. I recommend

    Good idea on the gallon baggie... In the past, I would cut the sides of a plastic bag and drape that over the power steering rack (2012 ram) to prevent oil from degrading the boot and in general making a mess. I am in the middle of the first oil change on my 2022 (bought it new with 8 miles on odometer about 2 months ago), and noticed the new set up and the much much smaller oil filter.

    After watching your video near the end of the video, I suggest that you add lubricating the "O"-ring on the oil filter with a little oil. This method should be used with ALL "O"-rings, they should be lubricated with the liquid that they are sealing. I liked the plastic bag trick, I will use it the next oil change. Thanks

      I don't recommend this at all. The VRT lifters in the Hemi truck rely on a precise flow of oil for a short period of time to make them perform properly. A change in oil from SAE 5w20 to SAE 5w30 is huge! the viscosity could change from 5.6 cST to 9.3 cSt. That's a 66% increase. The thicker oil would restrict the flow of oil in the lifters to the point where you could blow the engine up. Keep your oil clean-change the filter every time. I researched oil several times and have used Pennzoil for 30 years. My last Hemi truck was a 2006 and it had 215000 on it in 2021 when I sold it.

    😬hey pals !!! I have a situation here. I have a 2021 ram v6. U was doing the oil change on my truck , its first oil change . I have had many different cars and ford trucks and alway do the oil change and ive been doing it for 20 years. So the plug on this ram was very tight . I start loosing it little by litthe taping the end of the my wrench to not damaged the bolt. Once llit was loose woth no issues , i drained the oil and start putting the plug back. Once i got to a tight poin BY ONE HAND I gave it another little tight by hand and the oil pan cracked like aboit 6 inches . The crack runs right through the bolt threat 3 inches on each side. Never knew about something like this happening. Man is this made of cardboard or what ?

    If you cut one of the corners off the bottom of the ziplock bag then use a zip tie to tie the opposite bottom corner off so it forms kind of a pastry bag/ funnel shape. Use another zip tie to zip tie the bag around the oil filter tightly. Slide a phillips head screw driver through the hole in the corner of the bag you cut out. Using a small hammer GENTLY TAP a hole in the bottom of the filter.Remove the screw driver and let the oil flow out of the filter, into the bag and out the hole into your oil tray. You'll have to loosen the oil filter in 2 or 3 steps without removing it completely for all the oil to drain. Then remove the filter completely and wipe off the mating surface on the engine block. Not one drop of oil spilled and no mess whatsoever. Changed my oil several times using this method and haven't spilled a drop.

    I changed the oil in my truck exactly one time. I said f*** it after that. I'll go to jiffy lube. Which sucks because I kind of enjoy changing my own oil however this truck is a nightmare. No matter what you do you're going to make a huge mess.

      Fund fact: 12-point wrenches and sockets will also work on square nuts and plugs. For instance, a 7/16" 12-point socket works great on the 3/8" square oil drain plugs on small engines.

      To be honest with you if it gave any performance boost it’s not big enough to tell the difference. Although I rarely, and I mean RARELY go full throttle in my truck the times I did I didn’t feel much of a difference. The sound however is MUCH better! Woke the engine up big time!

    Do you think the Pennzoil Platinum is best for Hemisphere vs Royal Purple, or others?

    • @FirefighterBuell
      @FirefighterBuell  2 роки тому +1

      I personally do not think “most” high quality synthetic motor oils are too different in terms of engine wear and longevity. Everyone has a story on how they’ve used a specific oil for 300k miles. That being said the pennzoil platinum seemed to be most popular option for the hemi and a very budget friendly option so I went that route. If I did it again I’d choose the Platinum Pennzoil.

      Use Amsoil if it’s too much money next best oil is the pennzoil ULTRA , next best oil in the market for sure. I use ultra on all my Toyotas and amsoil for my Ram limited, these hemis hate to idle so make sure to use the best oil for engine wear.

    • @cherylmelelli9515
      @cherylmelelli9515 Рік тому

      An oil that is testing out really well is Valvoline Advanced. Avoid Mobile 1 because the additive package is really quite weak. Pennsoil Ultra looks good too but a little harder to find for now

    The oil catch can oil shouldn't be put back in to your truck. The purpose of the catch can is to remove crude and anything that shouldn't be cycling through your crank case.
    I'd empty the catch can into your oil catch next time. Otherwise you're throwing bad oil back in with the new oil change.

    • @FirefighterBuell
      @FirefighterBuell  Рік тому

      I think you’re mistaken on what’s going on in the video. That’s an empty container that the old oil is being dumped into. By no means would I put the old oil back in the truck.

      The best one to use is the Fumoto # F106SX. It's shorter and won't interfere with the stabilizer bar. The nozzle comes out the side and can be rotated 360 degrees in any direction before tightening down.
