From what I was told, the 'buzzsaw' sound is caused by the tips of the blades in the engines breaking the sound barrier. Is this true? If not, what causes this distinctive noise?
Always a good day when the wind changes and Jet2 take off from LBA over my house instead of the usual over the moors departure. Annoys the hell out of most people but I love it!
Absolutely magnificent sound from the RB211s! This is also rare footage of G-LSAC back when she was in Jet2’s grey/red livery, since she has been in the ‘Jet2 Holidays’ livery for quite a few years now.
Flown on loads of 535C and 535E4 757's through the 90's, sounds just as amazing in the cabin, plus you can kind of feel the vibration. I miss flying on these.
Thanks for sharing. When I was growing up in St. Louis we lived southeast of Lambert Field, directly on the departure path for the main runways. I remember when TWA started flying L1011s out of Lambert and the growl of these fantastic engines when those big beauties would lumber toward the sky over the baseball field I spent many an hour. I actually got to ride in one of those when I took a trip to Orlando when I was 9. Great times plane watching during those days.
Still prefer the 757 over the A321 anyday!
Nearly 30 years old and still flying thousands of passengers a year. True legendary aircraft.
Its like my PC during gaming
The sweet sweet sound of the Rb-211, my favourite engine and my favourite Boeing
To know that my dad machined many of the blades for the prototype RB211 and seeing the affection for this engine makes me feel good.
That unmistakable "sawtooth" sound of a Rolls

The audio quality makes it sound like it's on afterburner when it passes by, LMFAO.
