    I've tried a few different break in methods on the dozen or so engines/rebuilds I've done. What I've found to work best is start with cheap, non synthetic for break in. I use that $1 a bottle weedeater premix at 25:1 for two tanks. Fire it up, run around varying the throttle for 5-7 minutes until the engine is warm, kill it, let it completely cool, repeat for an entire tank. No high rpm or full throttle. Second tank the same, but more rpms and longer between cooling.......

    Thanks for the info. Good to know the stock carb settings. Dan never tried the switch but said it should work. I get the truck tomorrow but it's colder then I like it atm. I'll wait to run it until I install a kill switch. Got a clear body so painting will keep me busy in the meantime :)!

    Third tank I swap to synthetic. The last two engines I've had I broke in that way and used Bel Ray hr1 at 32:1. They've lasted MUCH longer than any before. The zenoah g290 in this one has about 5 gallons through it and still like new. It's about the same break in procedure O'neil brothers recommend. Ask 10 folks and you'll get 10 different answers. Just don't idle it much breaking in.

    @Paidcriminal80 The baja design uses a standard servo for the t/b and a large scale for the steering. I use hitec 5755mg for my steering. I've tried a few different ones and it has been the best. The one that's in the truck in this vid has outlasted several cars. I've never tried the savox or futaba large servos though. I use the v1 killer bee on a spektrum air radio I modified for myself to use after a hand injury made the pistol ones pretty unusable for me.

    Yup. You don't have to lower the suspension though. The shocks are the same. The t is taller because of the tires.

    That's why I'm so glad my better half likes it almost as much as I do. She's a good flipper. We make it fun tresspassing the local dirt pit. I holler at her like a trucker when she's running after it and compliment her bounce. She's not too bad at driving either. I let the 3 year old sit in my lap and drive some. She just likes the noise.

    @Paidcriminal80 Oh, I HIGHLY advise you use a killer bee kill switch. It will kill the engine if you lose signal. Also, you can kill the engine from the tx if a servo fails or linkage breaks. I always ran fail safes and thought they were good enough until a throttle servo failed on the 2nd tank on a brand new baja 5t. I watched it run away wide open until it crashed into a parked van. Major destruction. It has saved me from a few runaways.

    @Paidcriminal80 Oh, I actually tried my kb switch with two of my older 2.4 km radios just to test it a while back. It worked with one but not the other. Go figure. Maybe ask Dan (the seller) if he knows if it is compatible?
    Oh, when you get your car, if it does not run well or hard to start check the carb screws. They should be 1 1/4 on the low and 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 on the high. They are not like nitros. 1/8 a turn on the low can mean the diff between running well and will not start.

    It sounds like you have the experience of 10 guys so I'll try your method. I only ran a gallon through my rampage, I got it hot and to lean and seized it up. I haven't taken it apart or looked at it since, I thought I was smarter than that .

    @Paidcriminal80 The t2000 does look good. I've never seen one in person though. Mine is single speed. I built one with two speed. They're not the best for off road. The two speed is hard on the drivetrain with that hard shift. That and pretty overkill speed wise unless you're running in big open areas. I say hard shifting, but I haven't used a km 2 speed to compare. The original skunkworks one does. That two speed itself is durable, but very hard on the trans, axles, and drive cups.

    Great bashing video! Really shows off the durability of the ss. I'm looking into the T1000ss model and wasn't sure about all that aluminum. Your video proved me wrong! My bashing spot is very similar expect has sand. Any issues out of the box or recommended upgrades? Great video once again!

    Comes with a new aluminum tuned pipe. Looks exactly like the pipe on the hpi 5sc ss. No idea whats the name besides "Aluminum Tuned Pipe". I was informed its actually better then the HD Dragon pipe which I think is the dominator clone. Wonder if thats the one u just mentioned being not the best. Dominator looks great in the back. Seems Zen engines are highly recommended. I'm with you, care more about reliability vs power gain when purchasing a new engine. I ride in small areas like urs so they

    Yes. Just buy the truck body mount kit, but that'll make it a truck with buggy tires. Haha. In a some of my vids with shots of a truck and buggy, they are the same car. I'll just swap tires, remove the body and body mounts and have a buggy. I run it as a buggy 90% of the time because I bash hard and those truck bodies are expensive.

    @Paidcriminal80 Look at my newest vids of it in b outfit. It gets beat even harder. Its been the toughest rc I've ever had. I had to do less to it out of the box than any to get it reliable. The servos didn't last long. The engine didn't either, but both I planned to upgrade anyway. The stock alloy rims bent pretty easy and I broke the front A arms (in another vid on here). Other than that I BEAT it and rarely break anything. Ask anything you want to know.

      Sorry for not responding sooner. Google has made it difficult to find and respond to individual comments. This has been a very good and durable buggy. The stock servos did not last long. Nor did the stock engine. Mine did not originally come with the beetle body. I have many videos of this truck on here in different configurations. I will not be adding any more soon because it is in storage and the dirt pit I go to closed. Ask me any questions though!

  • @williamclark77
    @williamclark77  13 років тому

    @Paidcriminal80 I'm not sure about which pipe is which. Who cares for now? I'm sure it'll run awesome and you'll dig it. If you have any 1/5 questions fire away. I'm no expert, but I've been foolin with em for years and might can save you some headaches. Be sure to buy some cheap non synthetic oil to break it in on for a few easy tanks before swapping to good oil. Mine has the aluminum air filter cage. It refuses to stay tight. If yours does I have a quick fic for it.

    Thanks for the info. I checked out the other videos and man the ss holds up very well. Right now i'm caught between this ss or the T2000. T2000 belts hold up well from the feedback people have provided me with. Only issues is that there really isn't any upgrades for it because of the double shock setup. Still that 4wd is very tempting!!
    I'm expecting to replace servos n engine on whatever KM model I get. Is ur model with 1 or 2 speed tran?
    5th scale is new to me so maybe u can guide me to some

    @Paidcriminal80 Awesome! I've bought a few baja clones from him. Good dealer. My very first baja was a km 002. I've had km, rovan, and hpi bajas. The KMs were the best. I'm running a ddm dominator pipe. Which pipe does yours come with? The dom clone is very good. The baja ss style one isn't the best but better than a can muffler. Zen engines cost more, but from my experience, are worth it. They're not really more powerfull than a cy, but are better built.

    My new motor just came in, I might watch your break in video again, what 2 stroke oil do you use and do you mix any richer at the start of break-in?

    Well I just hit the buy button on the T1000ss from eBay. After watching ur videos, ur feedback and recommendations from Danlc4 (eBay Seller) I'm convinced it's a great start of my journey to 5th scale. I got the 1 speed tran. Thanks for the tip about the killer bee kill switch. Any recommendations which after market engines are good from your experience? If i ever have issues at least i'll know where to look. What pipe are u using?

    I bought the King Motors VW Bug about a month ago and cant find the receiver antennae ANYWHERE on this thing. I read the instructions very carefully and so far have had no luck. I've been watching several youtube videos and so far I have not seen any VW Beetles with the antennae extended. Can anyone guide me in the right direction as where to find it

    • @williamclark77
      @williamclark77  9 років тому

      2.4ghz receivers don't have long antennas. Old AM and FM did.

    • @starguard4122
      @starguard4122 9 років тому

      So the antennae is built inside or the receiver?

    • @williamclark77
      @williamclark77  9 років тому

      Yes. Search 2.4ghz receivers. The ones for rc cars, trucks, and boats do not have long antennas.

    Hey man! What are some good servos to get for the 5th scale. I see most recommend Hitec. Standard or large size servos? I use Futaba on my nitros and no issues. Looked at the killer bee kill switch but didn't have the km radio listed. Are u using it on a 2.4Ghz radio? Which version of the switch did you get?
