Roman’s funeral breakdown was both immensely satisfying and terribly sad. Then his nihilism at the end in the street bookended it. I knew he’d deliver a tour de force, and he more than exceeded my lofty expectations. Hail Keiran Culkin.
And that scene with Mencken being surrounded by the sycophants, favor-seekers, and deal needers was like something from a Bugs Bunny cartoon. “How ‘bout me, boss? And me boss?” Political satire at its finest.

My two cents for the finale: i think mecken is not gonna take the office and all the favor-asking games between the characters are gonna be for nothing. ATN will get caught in a scandal and they are going bankrupt, along with Geri's multi-million lawsuit. The last scene will have all of the siblings working at a theme park (just like the first scene we saw Greg on episode one). The end

you might be on to something but even with the company going bankrupt these people wouldn't have to be too worried, im sure if they liquidified all their stuff they could comfortably live for atleast another 500 years lmao. mencken is not officially a president yet but the courtcase is going to be long and dreadfull.

For four seasons, we watched what we believed to be some kind of poignant satire, about people living in a bubble, bloated with money, hollow and empty inside, devoid of soul or morals. The characters remained static, without any self-development or change, and now with the death of their father, we get something that was not built as a process at all. Roman, for example, one of the most hated, most disgusting characters, is suddenly presented as a lost and grieving child, full of grief and guilt, qualities that we may have only hinted at before, but the minority was enormous. The tone of this series is uneven and confusing, and I am still trying to understand what the director is trying to tell me, in the end, what the story is. There is not a single character in this series that evokes sympathy or empathy, they are all grotesque, evil, and this is not the face of capitalism as a whole, or the face of rich people as a whole.

The end of the episode LITERALLY showed how Roman, isn’t respected (hasn’t earned respect) and was always trampled over. People saw him as the clown and paid him no mind. What a great actor Kieran is though! Wow. 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽👏👏👏🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽

Barely a mention for the writing and the tonal consistency? The cast is beyond brilliant but they would be far less effective without the stellar scripts - Armstrong didn’t put a foot wrong in this episode - the speeches, the dialogue; and the overall tone was perfect, one of tragic realism. No room for sentiment or political signalling - the ‘bad’ politicos were given good speeches and Shiv’s probably genuine views of Mencken were counterbalanced by her obvious Machiavellianism. These are human beings, not cartoon characters.

    • @AdAstra78
