The real Heroes, Spanish Soldiers fought until the end. With inferiority 15 / 1
We so desperately need another teddy
You're Godamn Right
@@WaitAMinute1989 Everyone who watched the Miniseries knows that. It clearly shows that the Buffalo Soldiers fought alongside Roosevelt's Men
The more I study Teddy Roosevelt , the more I admire his accomplishments…….
Probably one of the greatest presidents we ever had
I remember when I was a young boy, my grandmother telling me her first memories of her childhood were people talking about the Spanish-American War as it was happening.
"We shall always live in its shadow."
And now we live in yours, TR.
great and true president. great scene. "it'll never be the same again" so truer words were never spoken. a great man, warrior.

Does anyone else find it interesting that as Roosevelt says “it’ll never be the same” the American flag is waving in the background with the word “Empire” (sugar) in the background. Very symbolic of the victory and the rise of America’s overseas empire. 🇺🇸
Milius knows what he is doing
A very powerful scene that only those of us as veterans can ever truly understand.
Yes, the whole movie is really well writtern and well made, thanks to Milius
mtklaric agreed!👍🏿
Jman👀
Amen to that.
Here here- vets REALY understand this
One of my favorites, for sure...
Long before Teddy Roosevelt, Americans demonstrated what it means to stand up in the face of adversity, but somehow Teddy, by his example, showed us what it means to lead Americans.

Only one hundred and fifty spanish soldiers stopped twenty thousand Rough Riders, because of that I think that Spaniards were heroes
Only around 1,050 Rough Riders were in Cuba.
what the film failed to show was roosevelt's real actions this day, He was to attack kettle hill on the flank of san juan, he did this but the main attack by regular infantry had bogged down, roosevelt rallied his men, who had done their task and led them forward, through the pinned down infantry, the only mounted figure on the field, exposing himself to enemy fire to lead the men by example, and got the attack moving again, up the hill and breaking the back of the spanish defenses.Because he was a political animal, he was denied the honors that would naturally have gone to such an act of leadership until many such acts were reviewed under president Clinton, Roosevelt is the only US president therefore to have both the Nobel Peace price and the Congressional Medal of Honor. which also shows the wide gamut of this great man's ability.
@Frederick Wells It was the BuffaloSoldiers that ran up San Juan Hill.

You apparently did not watch the same move as I did, because it does actually depict the incident you describe
Raymond, stop pushing your propaganda through these comments. That video is a flat out lie. The Buffalo Soldiers fought WITH the Rough Riders. My god you believe anything someone says because they have the same politics as you
Young Retard um never said they were bad or didn’t do anything. I’m just tired of people trying to change history saying “Yup they did everything.” They helped, it was a mutual effort. They respected each other. I don’t see the need to always politicize history. It’s usually the “we wuz kangs n shiet” people who try to push the idea that black people did everything ever and white people try to hide it because every white person in history is racist
Absolutely a great mini series
Teddy;s boys did what he asked of them. Noting more can be asked of a man then to do his duty. Semper Fidelis
The British advisors present at the battle doubted the Americans' ability to take the heights largely due to their experience and loss at places like Majuba Hill and Spion Kopp. It is amazing that the position was taken considering the recklessness of the decision to do so.
True

"To hell with skin color, brother. Just glad you made it!"

That is true
We few we happy few we gentle band of brothers “ William Shakespeare “ King Henry
I loved the first half of this movie and the other half had good battle scenes but I felt, towards the end, that the dialogue bordered on cliché and it had overly romanticized notions of patriotism. Overall it was a very enjoyable movie and this coming from someone who is deeply fascinated with Teddy Roosevelt after reading Doris Kearns Goodwin's wonderful book The Bully Pulpit on his amazing life.
Powerful scene but the rough riders didn’t take San Juan hill. They took kettle hill, it was the regular army that took San Juan hill.
Thanks for the comment, I guess Milus took some liberty

"it was a lie, it was the buffalo soldiers who had taken the hill."
I hope people took note of your comment that it was the "buffalo soldiers" who took that hill, and an even more important one before that. Roosevelt only showed up at SJ Hill AFTER it had been taken! The movie is correct in that brave Teddy was quick to use the occasion as a photo op. Roosevelt initially credited the "buffalo soldiers" as being decisive in the battle. A few years later he downgraded their participation to incidental. Then, a few more years later, as "Jim Crow" in America went into high gear, he claimed they had nothing at all to do with it, virtually erasing them from the event. So typical of the way American pop history was made in the 20th century and turned into a whitewashed fantasy tale. For anyone interested in learning the truer history of the Spanish-American war and the decisive role of the "buffalo soldiers" I recommend "The Roughest Riders" by Jerry Tuccille.
Nice to see that stupid video has made its way through to all of these comments. Teddy did a lot more than those ignorant Holier than thou pricks would want you to believe. He was a great man. We need to stop trying to make every white figure of history racist simply because they were white and the times they lived in were racist in some areas. Teddy led the charge personally up San Juan. He didn’t hide behind his soldiers. He is what inspired them to push forward.
Did anyone notice the "Empire Sugar" logo behind the American flag at :49? Wasn't that the real reason for U.S. interest in Cuba?
watch the whole movie....there is a short scene refering to this....
I recently uploaded an earlier scene from the movie refering to this....watch
It was also at the heart of the annexing of Hawaii
Didnt the Germans also fight along side the spanish?
Nope. I think there were German observers during the landings only.
8.400 USA soldiers against 800 spanish soldiers. General Lawton said they would conquer the hill in 1 hour. The spanish soldiers hold their ground for 12 hours, and fell lacking ammo. Who were the heroes? Cuban rebels shot spanish general Vara del Rey while he was on the wounded on the ground in stretcher
The acting along with the script is terrible.
it was a lie, it was the buffalo soldiers who had taken the hill.
Coming from that shitty video?
Uanu seshmi the blacks were there, right beside the whites. They took the hill together.
Roosevelt did give credit to the buffalo soldiers and stated that he couldn’t take the hill without them. However, the press gave him all the attention and he took all the glory for himself because of his celebrity status.
Aaaaawwwww! Those were the days when White Male Privilege was White Male Privilege!
ua-cam.com/video/ATiNDhcpnGI/v-deo.html
Aren’t you a ray of sunshine! You know the Buffalo Soldiers fought and died with the Rough Riders too right? So did Native Americans. Your ignorance, arrogance, and pure racism is showing there, friend.
