    This may be added later, but I wish the combat was more brutal. Some of the animations in sc2 are so brutal and it adds to the immersion and weight of the combat. The audio has a similar effect. Most of the successful rts games in the last 20 years, like Dawn of war, have had similar depictions. It really adds to the spectacle, which is one of the most important elements for causal players. Another suggestion to improve that aspect could be to up the amount of units. Some of the most successful rts games recently have thousands of models, like total war. Even if units are just chaff, it would still add to the scale. Big units only feel cool when they have a huge amount of crap to kill. Sc2, even in the mid game, has massive armies as well with over 100 units. This game has some serious potential. The gameplay looks pretty fun and I love most of the ideas.

    I’d love to hear more about rankings, co-op, and the campaign. The lack of MMR in StarCraft coop means that if I win more when I get better. SC2 Versus always matches me against people with the same MMR, so it feels like I’m not winning more or improving when I get better. I wonder if matchmaking should only try to match against other people in the same league, not considering MMR, so that you get the feeling of winning more as you progress within a league.

      I see your point, heroes - e.g. in WC3 - are (too) important. Have a fight, loose your hero early while the enemy keeps his alive and the game is basically over.
      However, it seems like in Zerospace the idea is more that the hero is quite strong early game, but the longer the game goes the less important your hero becomes. (Contrary to WC3, where a Lvl 8-10 hero is still amazing at the latest stages in the game).

    • @amplesstratleholm7609
      @amplesstratleholm7609 Місяць тому +1

      @@wedgeantilles8575 this. Grant knows how strong the HotS Kerrigan hero unit is (basically nearly solo'd the end of Brutal difficulty campaign with her and starting units), and knowing that, made the design for the Nightmare mods wherein Kerrigan is rebalanced to still be a strong unit, but relatively weaker in an army than before.
      Heroes are still in ZeroSpace to avoid the early game lulls that games like Brood War and early SC2 with 6 workers can get into.

    • @Appletank8
      @Appletank8 Місяць тому +1

      The idea of ZS's heroes is to give players with spare APM something to do, in this case, capture towers and duel opposing heroes. A commonly stated reason for SC2's 12 worker start is because there just isn't enough money to do anything but wait a few minutes. While BW's start doesn't have that much to do strategically, you can still try to optimize the workers coming out to mine. Once you get a single production structure up, you need to click a lot more.
      For ZS, once armies start ramping up, the heroes have a few unique abilities but aren't really otherwise impactful. You might pull back to a more defensive position of they're dead, but you aren't GG yet.
      Of course, there's also the Legion who's whole thing is a few strong heroes and a bunch of mooks, so if one prefers the WC3 style heroes, that's for them.

    I believe Day9 has a great take on it.but you are removing problems from your game and those problem are your game. If someone expands and has more bases than someone else, then they have the investment of the base that is not units, so by removing economic advantage, you are not making it less snowbally, you are making it less interesting. Thats the self-balance skill setting of RTS games. At a particular moment you have the same resources as your opponent - so if you decide to build economy and he decides to build army, he needs to "gather resources" with his army or he is behind. I'm okay with a bigger defender advantage to mitigate quick loses but having that mindset - lets make expansion less viable to mitigate snowballing, its basicly cutting part of the RTS triangle - units, tech, economy where you cannot have it all, but that generates dynamic. You are solving issues RTS doesn't have.

    • @Appletank8
      @Appletank8 Місяць тому +1

      I believe the idea behind ZS is that since a lot of the UX is more streamlined, everything (micro, macro, expansion) moves faster, therefore he wants to add in mechanics to slow it down, keep it in check. Since you brought up Day9, BW for example, you could get more bases, but that's also more places to manage your workers, build defenses, move units there to cut off enemy attacks. This takes away APM to do other things on the map, or, you have to sacrifice managing them in order to do something on the map, so the extra base doesn't give as much income as you'd expect. Maybe the fight is so hectic you have 5 SCVs sitting around not mining. Heck, this last ASL, Snow had a game where he was so focused on keeping his opponent in check he forgot to mine Gas at one of his expansions for like 5 minutes.
      In ZS, once you plop down an expansion, the mining nodes basically start automatically. It will _always_ bring the eco boost as advertised, you don't even need to remember to bring up your Town Center Control group and tap workers a few times. If you really want to get a bigger eco advantage, you must invest more risk, expand an extra base, send more Flux harvesters around the map.
      Similarly, while I agree that we're not likely to go back to 12 unit selection anymore, it is important to keep in mind what it did to affect the unit interaction on the map. Attacking took more time than sitting your units in a defensive position. Units get into each others way, delaying their DPS contribution even further. Some units required specific movement to keep their speed up, limiting how many could be controlled without getting in each others way or requiring multiple control groups. I'm ok with unlimited unit selection, but I think it's a good idea to implement other mechanics to neuter the DPS of a single All Army A-move.
      Whether it all works out or not, we'll see.

    • @potenviking
      @potenviking Місяць тому

      @Appletank8 I think their main issue is that they are trying to make it a feel good experience - to limit the feel bad times and to make every game an average and as this guy confirmed they are picking a lot form movable- mercenaries are basically buyback from Dota and thr top bar is basically something like the comeback gold potential. And the result in Dota at least is that you can be absolutely demolished the whole game make a bad fight and then you are equal. That period made it so it doesn't matter what happens the whole game except two fights in which you have defender advantage. Not anything fun to watch and nothing fun to play either. Their mechanic of "You have more than 3 basis - you get income tax 50% of the 4th is basically that it makes it harder to be ahead but in the end of the day - isn't the idea of the game to get ahead of your opponent. If he allows you to have 2 bases ahead of him shouldn't you be winning? This artificial anti snowball stuff wasn't needed in BW - people like it - it was a disastrously negative mechanic in War3 (upkeep) and it is non the less not needed in AOE2 or SC2. So that's not a problem to begin with.
      What BW did awesomely without them realising is that they made it hard to have your whole army in one place which made maps matter and strategy be present in the game. That's something that for some reason is present in ZeroSpace and that's why I'm hopeful it would work as a game.

    • @Appletank8
      @Appletank8 Місяць тому

      @@potenviking I'm not sure SC2 had no problems with less defenders/anti-snowball, a common complaint was that a moment of inattention could cause the their entire army to explode. (See: Mines, Banelings, Disruptors). It's rare to happen on the top level, but lapses of attention is way more common below. Also, two deathballs mashing into each other wasn't really fun either, because the risk of losing the deathball fight from splitting was so high.
      Also, technically BW's bases didn't give a linear eco boost either, aka 4 bases didn't give 33% more eco than 3. Supply cap meant you can't make all the workers you want, otherwise you'd run out of army. The more bases you had, the more spread out the workers are. Eco efficiency meant 60 workers on 4 bases was still better than 60 on 3, but not a monumental amount. The 50% eco tax in ZS is their attempt at mimicking this behavior now that there's no worker supply involved at all.

    • @potenviking
      @potenviking Місяць тому

      @Appletank8 Idk, having a game without exciting AOEs would probably never happen. Its exactly Manganel shots that allow play making, or Disruptor shots. If one falls a victim of it, they can simply get better. But honestly SC2 issue is the fact that most of the time your army can be at one place at the same time because of pathing. Even though the game was and is extremely successful. People may complain of banes but the game is 15 years old and people still play it.

    • @potenviking
      @potenviking Місяць тому

      @Appletank8 and for the Eco - the current iteration of eco in ZS is boring. Nothing less nothing more. Removing parts of the game "because people are lazy". People are not stupid. Workers were never an issue.

      @@weaintfoundshtI'd say this is correct. You have to get a winning position and then convert the winning position into a win, like in chess. Chess has anti snowball mechanics even, due to ideas of board presence/opening up your movement and lines of attack

    • @raizan5946
      @raizan5946 Місяць тому

      I don't mean to be rude, but that is because you are unemployed. I'm also hardcore and want to be rewarded because I'm "better", but the thing is that once you are busy then you drop games if you feel you are worthless and that to not be worthless you have to invest ungodly amounts of time that even if you wanted to do, you don't have. Majority of people is busy and in the gaming space there are too many fruits competing for you to eat them... Pay to win is a snowball mechanic in mind for those that work and can reinvest work time as "level ups" in games to be good (that can be used by rich whales too) while you investing time to get good can also be used by just talented individuals.
      The guy in the video, ZeroSpace creator, gets it. He wants a successful game and product so it needs the masses: losers, winner, rich, poor, talented, unskilled, zealots, waste, dads, moms, everyone. And the game can be fun while not frustrating you, while the skilled snowballers will still find a way to be on top because when all things are equal (and even against the most dominant player) then skill shines all the most.

      This guy is ZeroSpace creator, and having a 500k kickstart is successful enough to take off as the interest is there already.

      @@PatrickSmithPhD Good games don't need to pay tens of thousands to "influencers" to shill their games and they don't need to throw millions of dollars at e-sport in a desperate attempt to gather a pro scene. If a game is good, people are going to play it.
      If you're forced to pay people just to convince them to play your game then it likely just sucks.
